iinet ADSL Problem - Update 2
Connected at last via ADSL in System X.1.2 on the G4 . I loaded the same system on the iBook and took it (and the modem) into iinet. The problem is the DSL 300 PPPoE client connects but does not bridge with Macs. DSL have been contacted and are going to fix this some time. iinet worked on a number of Macs with the same problem yesterday, I was just the unlucky one to be first with this problem. In the meantime the modem is set to RFC so it bridges and I am using the PPPoE client in OS X. Can I get an OS 9 PPPoE client somewhere? I'm not too keen on OS X! The support guys at iinet have been warned not to try and connect Macs via the PPPoE in the modem. Diana

FW: largest hard drive for 6200

Can anyone tell me (or tell me where to find out) the largest size of hard drive that I can put in a 6200? 20 gig perhaps?? I think it's time to turn it into a file server or else just retire it. Thanks :-) Meg Hello Meg and Everyone, I am new to all this and didn't think I could help anyone yet. But here goes. We reluctently retired our old much loved Atari Mega ST4 machine which is still a very user friendly office workhorse. To replace it and move into serious graphics, we need a state of the art G4 but can't yet afford one yet. In order to learn the Mac system and come into the twentieth century if not the twenty first, we purchaced 3 x 6200/6300 series machines with many extras and upgraded them with help from long suffering Guru/friends. We currently run each of them with 64MB Ram, OS 8.6, 1Gig Jaz Drives, plus; 1. PowerPC 603/75MHz, Fujitsu 6 GB inbuilt Hard drive with 6 partitions, Telstra ADSL Broadband Internet. This is our communication machine (hoping to keep all other machines isolated for security). 2. PowerPC 603e/120MHz, IC35LO2OAVERO7-O 20 GB inbuilt Hard drive with 6 partitions. This is our word processor and office data base. Someone told us that we needed to partition the hard drive for the older Mac to recognise it, but this is not the case with OS 8.6. The machines are, as you would expect, very slow by today's standards. But having them side by side means you can work on one while the other is thinking. (not quite dual processing, but we can dream) The Jaz drives and hard drives give no trouble whatsoever. We did blow the fuse in one power supply but this was on the third machine with factory fitted 500 MB internal drive. (probably an unrelated problem) Greg Gregory at MacWare International in Lesmurdie WA (08) 9291 0600 and Robert Zatta at Xpress PowerMac Solutions (07) 5593 1912 have both been very helpful. If you would like further details you can contact us on (08) 9383 3929. I read the WAMUG Emails every day and must say that I appreciate both the questions and answers very much and learn heaps by doing so. Regards, Greg Manzie Glyde Gallery Conservation (Art and photographic restorers) PS Telstra's Broadband ADSL is a very good service and they have staff who understand and love Macs.

iinet ADSL
Today I received the big package of my 'Blink' account with iinet. 1. The modem software CD is windoze only. The man says that that will not be a problem as they can talk me through it over the phone. 2. They have just come across serious problems with all versions of OS8. They have asked me to hold off for a week whilst they work out how to overcome the problems. They recommend OSX. I was told 8.6 was supported and that the modem was 'plug and play'. The modem configuration seems like causing a few headaches when I come to configure it. Phil, what do you charge? Might have to buy a new eMac and give this iMac to my daughter. Kevin Lock
Beautiful Windows screensaver comes to MacOS X
One of the few things I have admired on a Windows computer is a startlingly realistic screensaver called Marine Aquarium. Until now it has only been available for Windows, but it has now been ported to MacOS X. And it runs beautifully. The realism of this thing has to be seen to be believed. To see it for yourself 1. Check out VersionTracker, or go directly to http://www.serenescreen.com 2. Download the MacOS X version 3. Copy the screensaver file (marine aquarium.saver) to the Screensavers folder inside the Library folder in your Home directory. 4. Launch System Preferences and choose Screen Saver 5. Choose Marine Aquarium from the list and click Preview 6. Enjoy the fish 7. Enjoy the bubbles. 8. Send off some money to get more fish (and to avoid having to type TESTFISH every time it loads) -- Peter Hinchliffe Apwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482 Fax (618) 9332 0913 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to. macro or applescripts for reptition
Hello I currently use TypeIt4me to shortcut typing often repeated words and phrases but it doesn't always work when the trigger key is struck. And it often leaves an undesirable space after the word. Is there a macro or Applescript that will do the same thing or a free program similar to TypeIt4Me? Thank you. Best wishes Edward

Filemaker / Dreamweaver
Howdy, I¹m interested in running myself through some tutorials on using databases in websites. I¹m hoping to use FileMaker 5.5 and Dreamweaver 4 (soon to be MX). I can find plenty of resources on using DreamWeaver with Access, but having trouble locating those that use FileMaker. Basically what I¹m interested in finding out is: *How to set up a database with the specific intention of using it for a website. *How to use that with DreamWeaver What I want to use it for is archiving on the website a catalogue of articles, reviews, discography etc for the band. If anyone can point me to any resources that might be useful, or might be available to run me through the process, I¹d much appreciate it. Cheers!
