ADB beige old keyboard
Looking for an ADB keyboard in good nick, someone did get in contact who has 'heaps' of them for sale, but he can't be bothered telling me where he lives. So how can I buy one? Anyone in the West Perth/South Perth area with one for $20 - $30 let me know offline please. TIA JC

The best-selling author was in the Headline News studio this year to promote his latest book. Being a big fan of his thrillers, I introduced myself as he was leaving. I told him I was a technology anchor. What kind of computer do you have at home? he asked. Well, I have a Sony Vaio. Judging from the look on his face, you'd have thought I had said that his fictional hero, Jack Ryan, was a liberal wimp. You gotta get a Mac, he said, just before he whipped out his cell phone and called in an airstrike on my apartment. OK, so I made up the airstrike bit. And maybe Clancy wasn't solely responsible for my recent purchase of a PowerBook G4. But his answer did get me thinking once again about Apple's computer products and the near cultlike devotion they inspire in Mac enthusiasts. Apple's PowerBook G4 I've been covering technology since 1997, which was shortly after Steve Jobs returned to lead the company he originally founded in the 1970s. I was at a Macworld convention where Jobs brought back style and elegance to the desktop computer with the iMac, those candy-colored, retro, all-in-one computers that got all the other PC companies thinking outside the beige box. There was no doubt that Apple had an impressive focus on design, but what about the computer itself? I had been previously scared off buying an Apple because of the lack of application software and the prices, which were higher than many PCs. And how intuitive indeed was the famously intuitive Mac operating system? Sure, I had had issues with Microsoft since Windows 3.1, but I was happy with the new Windows XP operating system when it came to boot-up time and managing digital music. Recent events helped me make a decision. Apple found itself cutting prices, with the softening of the computer market; more software companies, including Microsoft, are writing for Macs; the company opened up an Apple store in Atlanta, Georgia, and my Sony Vaio notebook decided to do its impression of the 2002-2003 Cincinnati Bengals. Apple's PowerBook G4 The Apple store where I bought my PowerBook G4 Titanium laptop looks like all the other Apple stores: You expect the late director Stanley Kubrick to pop in and yell, Action! The clerk couldn't have been nicer as he showed off the Titanium's features, including the new Mac OS 10.2 Jaguar operating system, complete with iCal, a cool application that will fetch items off the Internet and stick them in your calendar. The new Jaguar also supports my Internet service provider. So I walked out with the Titanium, thinking I had the new Jaguar happily purring under my arm. But it wasn't. My Titanium was loaded with Mac OS 10.1.4. Apple says all Macs in their stores should have Jaguar. If not, you can pay $19.95 for shipping and handling and Apple will send a Jaguar update to you. But I would recommend you make sure Jaguar is in the Mac you're buying before you walk out of the store. Otherwise, I am thrilled with my Titanium, especially the light weight, the slimness, the ultra-wide screen, the ease with which I can custom-burn CDs with iTunes. After 10 years as a Windows person, the new Mac operating system does take some adjustment, but not much. I even love the iPod, Apple's portable music player, and not just for its ease of use. When you open the iPod box and take out the player, there's a cellophane note stuck to the front that says, Don't Steal Music, in three languages. Nice touch, Steve. I'm sure both Tom Clancy and Jack Ryan would approve. Story Tools Trust of Net declining, report says Warriors take war to Web Is 'Dell dude' Steven done for? I was using OSXs email program to view my email, I clicked on a link (to ilisten) embedded in an email message, and then only the email message titles were displayed - the email message was no longer displayed in a split screen. OK, what happened? I looked at all of the menu options, I searched through mail help, but found nothing. How do I get my split screen, message title and body back? I don't know what happened in your case, but have a careful look at the bottom of your mail window. It probably shows a thick glassy border with 3 very thin horizontal lines in the middle of it. Double click this, and you'll find that it is actually the divider line, which will spring back to its proper position in the middle of the window. You can also just drag it back into position. Double click it again and it will collapse again. I know this doesn't explain what happened when you clicked the ilisten link, but then perhaps nothing ever will... -- Peter Hinchliffe Apwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482 Fax (618) 9332 0913 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to. Re: Microsoft Office 2001 and OSX
I need help to automatically launch Microsoft Word 2001 when double clicking on a word document in OS 9.2 Having installed Office X in OS10.2 and I also still have Office 2001 in 9.2 When I double click on a word document in OS 9.2 I get an error message To Use Microsoft Word your computer must be running Mac OSX 10.1 or later. Is there a patch or something that needs to be done so that my G4 will open a word document in OS 9.2 I used to be able to double click a word document and automatically launch word ... without the error message? BEFORE I INSTALLED OFFICE OS X in 10.2 Once I open word 2001 I can open word documents in 9.2 by double clicking but I get the error message if I haven't first opened Word 2001. You could put an alias to Word 2001 somewhere on the desktop and drag the file to that. Or possibly put an alias to it in your startup items folder. Possibly, reinstalling Office 2001 under 9.2 might also fix the problem (or change the modification date of Word 2001) Is there a fix or is microsoft playing silly buggers? Actually, it's not really Microsoft's fault for once :) It's due to the way the Mac determines which application should be opened. Excel Formula copy
I am having difficulty in my Excel spreadsheet when copying a formula. When I paste it to a group of cells, the results in those cells is the same as the cell that I copied from although the formula is correct. It is not until I go to each individual cell and click into the data window and press enter does it formulate the correct data. Hope this is not clear as mud. mass storage
Hello all I received a few replies to my DVD question which made me realise my question sounded like I was talking about creating a movie DVD... not so: what I am actually after is a way to archive the data we used to create the film (iMovie finul cuts files etc) so, what's the most efficient way to archive 16-18 Gb of data? thanks in advance Greg Hi all I have a video project I would like to archive - it's about 16 Gb. If I get it burnt to a DVD as spec'd below: DVD-18: This format provides for data storage on two layers on both sides of a DVD optical-disc. Total storage capacity for DVD-18 is 17.0 GBytes. will the DVD drive in my g4-400 (gigabit) be able to read it back in? Also, where might I get such a DVD burnt in perth? cheers greg -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.html Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.html Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Your use of Yahoo! I noticed this little surprise too recently and thought Apple was in the process of divvying up the disk space of those that weren't baited into .mac and donating it to those that were. It didn't last long :-( woz On Friday, Oct 18, 2002, at 08:54 Australia/Perth, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Friday, October 18, 2002, at 08:17 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Anyone who has .mac can help confirm this? FS - MYOB Fist Accounts v3.1
Greetings all Having a cleanout and want to sell my full version of MYOB First Accounts v3.1 (for Mac and Windows), with manual etc. My accountant thought it would be a good idea to buy it, but I¹ve never bothered to learn and use it. I¹m afraid I¹m just too used to shoe boxes! My accountant tells me it has everything necessary for a small business accounting package, including GST, and is OS 8/OS 9 compatible. The latest version is v3.5, which will cost you between $220 and $230, but you can upgrade v3.1 to v3.5 for $59. I¹m looking for $100 for the package, with serial numbers and password. I can deliver around central Perth next week if required. Contact me off list if you are interested. Cheers Neil [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Re: Help
Hi Shay There have been no changes in extensions - I am worried that the fact that the power went off whilst the laptop was still in use screwed something somewhere. The start up procedure is no different to that of normal, just that it takes nearly 3 hrs (about 2 hrs 45). The screen display is the same, smiley mac, then welcome to mac os 9.2 and the string of extensions as they load. Everything seems to work, it takes that much longer, to the extent it is not feasible to work. The reason I am asking for help and not running to an Apple shop is that I am in Phuket, and would need to get to KL, S'pore or BKK to try sort it out. However your mention of extensions made me take a look and I found all these folders in there, some of which I don't recall seeing there before - but I could be wrong :-) Type Libraries ActiveX Controls MS Library Folder Aladdin MRJ Libraries Global Guide Files Find Printer Descriptions Printing Plug-ins PPP Connect Scripts Voices Multiprocessing Real Modem Scripts Location Manager Modules MindVision Macromedia Norton AntiVirus Additions I back up to a LaCie pocketdrive via FW through a FW-2-Go pc card, and apparently I modified the systems folder last night, which I know is wrong. Since the drive is via a pc card it is not booted until the system is up and running. Is this a clue? Many thanks Angus Still no difference, 3 hours to boot, when checking mail everything freezes, MS Word takes about 20 minutes or longer to open a file (ok so it wasn't exactly Speedy Gonzales in the first place, but not that slow), I haven't risked opening anything else. You need to boot with extensions off, and then determine which extension it is that you're adding that is causing the 3 hour boot time. You can do this by starting with the base extensions in the extension control panel and gradually enabling more extensions, rebooting each time. Alternatively, what's displayed on the screen when the 3 hour wait occurs? Which extension was the last to load before the wait?
