Re: Windows to OSX networking
Hi Everyone, I'm stumped! I know I have done this before but I cant seem to do it now :( OSX can see two win2000 boxes but not the reverse. Just thought I should add that the PCs can actually see the Mac's web page at http://192.168.1.2/ when Personal Web Sharing is on. Could that suggest its an authentication issue? I have had success where Windows voodoo is apparent by using the shareware app Sharepoint to configure the SMB details on the Mac side. Allows the creation of custom shares as well. Also restores OS9 style appleshares. Great App. Rob There are some issues with file sharing to windows boxes with 10.2, not sure about 10.3. Check out this link for debugging connections: http://homepage.mac.com/william_white/smbdoc.html One of the perls of wisdom - from the terminal on the OSX box type: smbclient -NL 127.0.0.1, which will list all the windows resources that the OSX box is making available. Very cool. Regards, Paul. -- Paul W. Mulroney Logical Developments [EMAIL PROTECTED] 86 Coolgardie Street www.logicaldevelopments.com.au BENTLEY WA 6102 Ph: +61 8 9458 3889 Fax: +61 8 9458 7204

Great App. Rob I agree, great app. Its running and I have the home folder shared as r/w for everyone using both AppleFileServer(AFS) and Windows(SMB). Oo, oo, just went to Sharepoints SMB Props and set the Mac's NetBios name and Workgroup, oo, oo, it's working! I can SEE the share. It is also sharing something called 'Homes' which isnt accessible. I never had to go there before to get it to share, oh well. Something else screwy is the Workgroup under Directory Access keeps reverting back to 'workgroup' instead of staying on 'lefroy'. Even after setting it with sharepoints it currently reads 'workgroup'. The most curios thing is when I open the Sharing prefs as the pane is fading in I can see the address as an IP address, then it reverts to using the term localhost again once it loads. This seems to be a clue showing itself here I think. Sharepoints is only a GUI right, its only putting a face on controls which already exist, right? It can access those controls effectively but I cannot seem to. Unusual to say the least, do I have a wounded OS? Im still not happy but it is working ;) Thanks Rob, I'll let you know when my first born is due ;) Regards Paul

The images are reproducing very grainywhy?? Where have the images come from? Images for printing need to be prepared and treated especially -- you'll get bad results if you use screen-quality images. At the very least, you'll need to have your original images captured at a decent resolution (dots per inch) -- e.g. 180dpi or above, depending on the printing circumstances (e.g. paper stock, photos or line art, etc). I have tried importing the files into photoshop as pdf and printing that way but the text and pics are then pixilated. The printer is an Epson 2100. You've probably reduced the resolution to 72dpi somewhere along the line -- better to print directly from InDesign.
Re: IN DESIGN EXPERT NEEDED
Yeah we'll need more info than that to suggest full solutions. I'm guessing you are printing vector images in Indesign (from illustrator or flash?) Photoshop doesnt' handle importing vector images so it rasterises them (which is the pixelation) you should however be able to adjust the quality of the rasterisation (the high DPI you choose the smaller and smaller the pixels are until they are unnoticeable). now the grainy issue i'm not sure about. If you are doing gradients or patterns in vector can be rendered badly in different applications (the usual one is banding in gradients) but grainy i haven't come across. give us more info on the file, images in that file, apps used to create those images and we may come up with a solution WEZ!
Re: InDesign Expert Needed
Thanks to all who responded to my cry for help. Thankfully it was as simple as my printer settings not being correct. Good news about that being, it means I have In Design sussed, coz the prints now look great!!! Have a great day, mine has just become so much better. Rosalyn..
G4 startup problems
I have a customer in Adelaide (fiances dad lol) he has a G4 (so he say, not sure on the model) it has a power switch on the front of the system and one on the monitor, when he turns it on, nothing happens, but if he hits reset button on the front, then it starts. He is running Os9, the PRAM battery has been replaced. Any ideas ? Regards, Kat. -- --- K.A.Q. Re: Banking
Bankwest have closed their site for upgrades at least twice during last few days. It is closed again right now until 11 pm tonight. Perhaps they are addressing these problems, and maybe that's why it didn't work one day and did the next. On 17/02/2005, at 8:54 AM, Michael Schmidt wrote: Good morning! After the ANZ banking log-in window not working correctly yesterday with Safari and 10.3.8, when I tried again last night it was fine again!? In terms of browser of choice I seem to always return to Safari, though Camino and Firefox are also on my machine, it's Safari that does it for me. I have found few sites that I regularly visit that are not able to be loaded and I find the speed okay. I guess I find the design of the interface easy to view and find my way around - for me the brushed metal look clearly differentiates for me the toolbar, the icons and the main window. I do see also that there are some limitations too.
