POP leave on server simply downloads the all mail in the mailbox
(headers/messages/attachments) that hasn't previously been
downloaded by that client and then leaves any messages on the
server that have been downloaded within the leave on server time
period deleting mail downloaded prior to that time span.
good for being able to access read and write (if not send) mail off
line, slow particularly on dial up.

'
I'm pretty sure IMAP allows you to ONLY download the headers so you
can then download the message body when you want to read it. good
for mobile devices or dialup/satellite access but can't read mail
that hasn't been already read (or selected to download) when offline

Yup, you're correct. Good point.

This is probably a silly question but have you ever had issues with this

I probably won't use the external video feature much but I figure I may

Okay, I won't shoot you, but POP3 servers do permit you to download a

Eudora and Outlook, but I don't know about Mail.app. Often it

Yes mail.app lets you leave a copy of the message on the server for X
days.
Configure is under account preferences. Do it on both machines of

I already have the 'Leave on server' thing set up. But for some

I doubt it. I'm still annoyed about when they stopped using QuickTime.

Perhaps another option.
If you need to access your mail from multiple computers, you would be

Yes, we seem to have problems with people editing documents on the
server using Word. One of the favourite things it does is to corrupt
documents by destroying tables. We also occasionally have
disappearing documents (and folders).

I'd suggest trying copying documents locally, editing them and then
putting them back on the server. At least for a while to see whether
it improves things.

If Safari and Filemaker are quitting though, there may be another
problem. I'd also suggest checking the system log files to see if
they can shed any light, and try memtestosx from
http://www.memtestosx.org/ on his machine overnight to see if there
are any RAM problems.

If you're brave, you can try suggesting using NeoOffice/J or
OpenOffice instead of Word, but changing mindsets is a much more
difficult task to accomplish than changing machines :)

E-Record version 5

2005-07-01 Thread alcrom

Hello
I have just down loaded the above ( for system 10 ) from tax office.
After doing as instructed I get mac message,

You cannot execute the script Event-open CashBook because the
JavaScript plug-in is missing. [3001,0].

The above problem also effects version 4 so now I cannot use either.
(There should be an opening for a Mac programmer at the tax office as
the one they have is no good. Had problems last year as well.)

As the plugg-in is not in the plugg-in folder where do I down load from?
I have sent an e-mail to E-Record comments hoping for a fix.
Are other users having same problems?
Regards from Alan.
