Help Viewer has a problem (10.4.5). MacHelp gets to opening screen
then no links work. All the other helps available to Help Viewer
seem fine. MacHelp.help is where it should be in Library/
Documentation/Help and opens to the opening page if I double click on
it but no further. Trashing Help preferences has not helped.
Help!

Try isolating ~/library/caches/com.apple.help.ui (or wherever it's
located in 10.4.x)

Getting rid of those caches works in 10.3.9

This problem may have been fixed in 10.4.6, released yesterday and
available from Software Update. Certainly, the problem where MacHelp
occasionally displays a blank window has been addressed. Hopefully,
this might have been part of the same problem.

I Pod ....stilll...

2006-04-05 Thread ken

Hey folks,
well the saga continues, I still can't get the video library from my
IPod 30 gig to appear on the ITunes playlist.
Now it also refuses to update, says Itunes did not update blah blah
because your software is too old... when I try to load the current
software update it won't do it!

Running 10.3.9 on a dual 1.42 GHz Power G4.
I Pod is 4 months old I haven't been able to use the video component
for 3 of them.
Have looked at all the discussion pages but nothing i do seems to have
any effect.

Also what do they mean when they say it needs to connected via a
Firewire cable? I've seen it mentioned but there are no Firewire cables
that came with my Ipod??

i know there's a lot of problems with them, I hope someone has had some
experience with this one!!??

Thanks all.

Apple supports booting XP

2006-04-05 Thread Matthew Healey

It's called Boot Camp

http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/

It allows you to bring your own copy of Windows XP and install it on
any Intel-based mac.

Have fun!

I just can't wait to see Apple's next switch ads:

I use to use Windows then I found Mac OS X... Now I find myself
back in Windows... but with a prettier case

Is it considered backsliding??

Why is it XP specific though? Is it to do with the formatting of the
elegant disk utility

Monster Mac Stall

2006-04-05 Thread Wez

Something that i was told about and thought i would forward it on.
WEZ!

MONSTER MAC STALL
PRESBYTERIAN LADIES COLLEGE FAIR
SATURDAY 8th APRIL 2006
10am - 2PM

MONSTER MAC STALL THIS SATURDAY

Apologies for any Cross postings...

As you probably know, PLC is an Apple Distinguished School and probably the
largest school user of Apple and associated equipment in WA.

We've unearthed a treasure trove in a recently demolished store room and are
ready to share the spoils!

The PLC Technology Centre is running a stall to sell a wide range of used Apple
and associated equipment in an effort to raise funds for our new Arts, Science
 Technology facility.

eg. Large numbers of iMacs (Candy colored G3, Rev B through to Blueberry and
Graphites etc), clamshell iBooks, scanners, networking equipment, several ZIP
drives etc and much more incl LCs etc. Huge range of power and associated
cables, SCSI etc... Netopia routers and all sorts of weird stuff

Nothing at the stall is over $50 and most items $10 or less - power
cords only a

dollar or two!

Do you have an older laptop that you have been searching for that power supply
or SCSI cable that you can no longer source? (We even have working Powerbook
1400s to sell for nearly nothing!)
Need a VGA dongle to replace the one you lost for any model of white Powerbook?
Lost the 'duck head' (the little white pin adaptor bit) that connects straight
onto you powerbook/iBook power adaptor?
Do you need a screen/keyboard/optical drive to repair that broken iBook you've
got in the cupboard, but were scared to death by the part cost when you went to
the Apple dealer to have it repaired?
Buy an old secondhand machine from the stall and use it for parts!
We have all this and more...

There are tons of OS9 software titles - PhotoShop, VR worx, FinalCut Pro v.1.0
etc as well as original Mac OS install packs and booklets etc for a wide range
of older models... Lots of earlier installers of OSX to suit this era of
machines...

Drop in to PLC , corner of View and McNeil Streets in Peppermint Grove -THIS
SATURDAY!!!

Please pass on to anyone you know who might be be interested...
Remember the early bird gets the worm, especially if its in an Apple!
Tell your friends, but get there before them!

Warm regards,

XP SP2 has the latest drivers for today's hardware, whereas the older
versions of Windows may not run. Plus, most modern software is written
for XP, and the drivers for the graphics and sound cards in the Intel
macs only have to be written for XP (there are different drivers for
different versions of Windows).

What this does provide is brilliant marketing for Apple, both hardware
and software. Hardware wise, people can compare directly the speed of a
Mac to a comparable PC. Software is a no brainer - people can see how OS
X rocks over XP on the same hardware.

And one other thing - games :-) There is a distinct lack of Intel ready
games for the Mac, while there are tons of games for the PC, where
probably 90% will never be ported to the Mac anyway.
