Re:Update OS

2006-06-08 Thread Janis Lynn

Hi

A friend emailed me this question last night. Could someone please
answer it for me?
I just learnt that with my old iMac i can install OS10.2 if i
wanted to,
but I would have to install some firmware programs to fix my iMac
so it

will run OS 10.2. What firmware do I need and how do it?

Thanks Guys

after a few hours mucking around on Vista beta I can say I'm not
terribly impressed. Nagware would be a good term for it every
attempt to configure settings is accompanied by endless popups asking
for authentification, then if you if you really want to do that and
the consequences of it (often type 1 Nodal windows that stop you from
doing anything else with any other software currently running) then
as often as not in the next step in the configuration you asked all
that all over again.

Seems Microsoft have got the hint about that too, as the next beta
will

have much reduced nagware. Pain in the bum, but I guess there are so
many stupid windows users out there that quite happily install
whatever

is in the email box and screw up their machine in the process.

BTW, I have just installed Ubuntu 6.06 Linux on my PC laptop last
night.

Very nice Linux distro, quick and easy to use. Less gimmicks, more
speed. I'd like to see both MS and Apple take a few notes :-) If it
weren't so hard for average Joe to install software (and some of the
software given a bit more polish), Linux would have a real go at
Windows

in x86. Imho :-)

Votes for Ubuntu here too.

The file you need is iMac firmware update 4.1.9. This is readily
available from Apple's software download pages. Alternatively, if you
reply off-list I will happily email you a copy (the WAMUG list does
not support attachments).

Did you try going to the Apple site http://www.apple.com and
enterfirmwarein the search box ?

You only then need to match your Mac with the answers to get all the
info .

Re: Slowing down a movie

Thank you Stephen, Severin and others who encouraged me to proceed
down the iMovie - iDvD path. It worked and I can now watch my slowed
down version on the TV, pause it, etc. Great. Now, to discover how
to make my own themes!

Using iMovie is a new world for me. I found the edit for slowing
the movie down, thank you.
Now, as to a DVD. If I export it back as a Quicktime and burn it
to a DVD would that work in a video player? Intuitively I feel
that there must be an intervening step(s).

You should be able to import it into iMovie.
At least then you can play around with the format and export it
back to Quicktime or maybe even burn a DVD.

I have been presented with a CD with a QuickTime Movie.
The movie consists of simulated views in 3D of the outside and
interior of a building. These views have been generated from
architectural drawings.
The clip lasts for 27 seconds, pans around the building, enters
the building, pans within the building. I feel seasick trying to
catch the detail in less than half a minute.

Is there any way to slow down QuickTime player?
I would like to set it up as a standing display for people to
see, but not at the speed of light.

Any suggestions?
Merv

I made myself a 400G external HD using the MacPower enclosure
(Firewire 400/800, USB 2.0 + eSata). 336.00 + 216.16. Goto http://
www.staticice.com.au/ and plug in the components if you know what
they are. The result was Firewire-bootable (it actually has either
backup disk or a Linux install on it) and fast because of the FW 800
+ SATA internal.

Sony Network digital player NWE 107L

2006-06-08 Thread Greg Manzie

Hello WAMUGers.

Can anyone please tell me if Mac OS 10.4.6 can interface with the
above unit on a G4 400 Yikes.

A friend is thinking of buying one but needs to use it with my Mac.

The demo (on approval until tomorrow) mounts on the desk top and
seems to accept Mp3 files, but does not recognise them or see them
when disconnected from the computer.

Google seems fruitless. The Walkman packaging only refers to Windows.

I will continue my search on Google and Version Tracker.

Any help would be appreciated.

iPod - darn

Looks like my daughter's 6gb Mini iPod battery has carked it. I ran it
through the recommended tests and on line suggestions today - 8 days out of
warranty. Apparently it has been playing up for a couple of months, but she

If the battery is the same as an iPod shuffle (I haven't checked), I

Try Apple. They must have a soul. Sometimes I wonder though.

Otherwise:
Go back to the person you bought it from; hopefully a real person in
a real AppleCentre, who knows you and has some empathy with human

[COMMPOST] Toast Titanium 7 and RAM Special

2006-06-08 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi All

After the demo the other night on Toast Titanium 7 I thought I would offer a
special on it for those that don't have it or want the latest version.

Toast 7 normally sells for $139.95 and until next Friday you can purchase it
for $119. Stock is limited, so some orders may be taken.

Also, for those people who have purchased the latest range of Intel machines
(MacBook, MacBook Pro, Intel Mac mini or Intel iMac) I have the following
special:-
512MB PC5300 667MHz DDR2 SODIMM - RRP$130, Special Price $ 99
  1GB PC5300 667MHz DDR2 SODIMM - RRP$350, Special Price $159
With the new range the same RAM works in all the models! A great bonus!
Again, pricing is valid until next Friday.

So, just a couple of specials to keep you going.
And I must say, the new MacBook is a very nice machine after playing with
one today! And the MacBook Pro isn't too bad either! :o)

If you're looking for anything at all, please feel free to drop me an email.
I'm always happy to quote for anything.

Enjoy!

Kind Regards
Daniel
