Mobileme iWeb page problem Solved

2008-08-10 Thread Rod Blitvich
I was having trouble with a dot mac webpage.
Everything worked except the ³Post a Comment² link in the blog.
The solution was:

With the change to Mobileme
http://web.mac.com/blitto/Hawks
Becomes
http://web.me.com/blitto/Hawks

We were visiting
http://web.mac.com/blitto/Hawks (the old address)
Which still works EXCEPT that the ³Post a Comment² doesn¹t work.
So I needed to tell everyone to update their bookmark to the new address.

Cheers
Blitto

Re: Latest security update

2008-08-10 Thread John Daniels
Following my reinstallation from the upgrade disc I now have 10.5 as the OS.
Prior to the problem I had 10.5.4
1) When I archived and installed, would my previous OS (10.5.4) have been
retained on the HDD.
2) I do have a backup on Time Machine back to June. Would that help to get
10.5.4 updates without downloading the combo afresh?
3) I did have a folder in the dock for downloads with stacks but I
inadvertently dragged it into the desktop and lost it. Is there any way of
getting that folder and stacks back in the dock?
I hope someone has the time and patience to answer the above
Cheers

Yep .I think I found the same problem with an UPGRADE CD
IF I remember correctly you actually have to be running the previous
OS for the upgrade to mount.

Do you happen to have the last COMBO update on your hard drive ?
You may be able to re run that ! ?
Not sure what happens when you run that over a later security update !

Seems like you really need a Leopard INSTAL disk rather than an
 upgrade disk ,

or connect via firewire and set up Target Disk mode to another PPC
 mac with Leopard

or Connect an external Hard Drive ( which has Leopard installed )
 via firewire
so you can start up from it.

You cannot run Permissions from Disk Warrior CD ... wrong versions !
You might startup from Disk Warrior 4.1 which runs on Tiger but can
 repair Leopard structure .

Disk Warrior Version 4 is Tiger only .. NO GOOD for Leopard

 Hi John,

I think you might have some directory problems.
 a) Startup in Safe Mode, this will take awhile longer to startup

 problems.

 b) After starting up in Safe Mode, restart your computer normally

 1. Be sure the computer is shut down.

The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the

g5 iMac Sporadically closing down?

2008-08-10 Thread Stewart Woods

Hi all,

Hoping someone out there might point me somewhere useful :-)

I have a 3 yr old 1.8 mhz g5 iMac (Just out of Applecare naturally.)

Over the last few weeks, the machine has been working fine except
that once every couple of days it makes a small pop and closes down

For about a minute, pressing the power button just makes it come on
then off again.

Shortly thereafter, she powers up but (what sounds like) the fan
makes a lot of noise for about 30 seconds

CPU temperature is 75% - that sounds OK, yes?

Anyway, today the machine did it twice in the space of 15
minutes.starting to get a little nervous here... ;-)

Strangely though, I thought it might have something to do with the
power supply, so was wiggling that while it was dead and the machine
turned itself on..

I know...confusing eh?

Can anyone offer any advice beyond 'back up everything and brace your
wallet'?

cheers
Stewart

2008-08-10 Thread Glenn Nicholas
My iMac G5 does the same periodically. I figured it was overheating,
as it was happenning after it had been on for a while.
So now I have a small fan next to it (clearing the air behind it). If
it goes to sleep, I switch on the fan and it is all fine from there
on.
Hope there is a proper fix.

Glenn.
