Re: 27 inch Cinema LED Display compatability

2010-10-18 Thread Daniel Kerr

Hi Bill

It needs a DVI to miniDisplay Port Converter, as otherwise it doesn't plug
in.
They retail for around $249. Have one in stock at $209.
They work quite well. I have that I use with the Apple 24 LED and my first
model MacPro which only has DVI. Works well.

Kind Regards
Daniel

Re: 27 inch Cinema LED Display compatability

2010-10-18 Thread Daniel Kerr

Hi Jewels

Which older style are you referring to?
Do you mean the display that is Aluminium, or the display with the clear
surround around it? From memory I think the largest ADC monitor was 24. The
largest Aluminium Disply one was 30 (They had three sizes 20, 23 and 30).

If you're referring to the one with the clear surround then it was the model
that came with the ADC connector (which stood for Apple Display Connector),
which did have a convertor.
They're few and far between now, but it was a DVI to ADC adapter. Originally
was around $250, but think the last one I got was about $150-$175 from
memory.

Is that monitor you mean?

Kind Regards
Daniel

Re: 27 inch Cinema LED Display compatability

2010-10-18 Thread Daniel Kerr

Hi jewels

The Aluminium ones will be fine, as they had DVI already so will just
connect to a new Mac Pro no problems.
As per Apple's website:-
http://www.apple.com/au/macpro/features/graphics.html
---quote---
Graphics on display.
Every new Mac Pro graphics card features three display ports for maximum
workspace flexibility. Two Mini DisplayPort outputs connect to a pair of
Apple LED Cinema Displays with ease. And a dual-link DVI port connects a
30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display or other DVI display. And with support for
two ATI Radeon HD 5770 cards in the Mac Pro, you can connect more displays ‹
up to six total.
---end quote---

Kind Regards
Daniel

Dragon Dictate for Mac

2010-10-18 Thread Stuart Breden

I'm upgrading my Dragon Dictate for Mac to the OS 10.6 Intel iMac
version.

I see that it comes standard with a USB headset but some users are
using bluetooth headsets. It appears that those bluetooth headsets
may be able to be used for mobiles as well.

My question is. If I have one bluetooth headset can I use it for
Dragon Dictate for Mac, my iPhone and my in house surgery
telecommunications system?

?*%$$# Time Capsule

2010-10-18 Thread Steven Knowles
I'm about to watch time fly and throw TC out the nearest window.

I got over all of my previously whinged about error messages by one of two
solutions, I don't know which one ultimately provided the fix, but erased data
entirely, and disconnected all users (Airport Utility Manual Setup Disks
Disconnect All Users). The backed up everything from scratch, the major
downside being loss of all historical backups.

The backups from scratch seemed to work. However now, not every time but
intermittently, I get ...

Time Machine could not complete the backup.

This backup is too large for the backup disk. The backup requires 169.72GB but
only 122.2MB are available.

Time machine needs work space ... blah blah blah

TM waits for me to click OK. Then, if I 'Backup now' TM proceeds with a backup
in the usual manner, and keeps going until next time I get the 'backup too
large' message.

According to the TM Preferences window, there is about 500GB of available
space, which is about right after taking into account the two Macs I've backed
up.

I've been putting up with the inaccurate 'backup too large' message, however
just now I had a need to go into TM and recover a previous version of a file
I've stuffed up. Disappointingly, I find that TM hasn't been retaining old
backup data. I have 'Now' backup, and that's it. No historical backups to wade
through. I assume this has something to do with the 'backup too large' problem.

The problem I'm having is with my MBP. I've checked TM on the other machine, an
iMac, backing up to this TC. No problem. Retention of historical backups appear
to be taking place for the iMac. All machines running latest OSX.

Any suggestions?

Cheers, Steven

Re: ?*%$$# Time Capsule

2010-10-18 Thread Steven Knowles
An extra clue on this. I've just noticed that when I do a backup from the MBP,
apart from my TC disk image showing, another disk image comes up named Boot
OSX. I don't think I've seen that before. On closer inspection of the Data
folder on the TC, I see that there are three sparsebundle files for my MBP.
Does that help??

I'm about to watch time fly and throw TC out the nearest window.

I got over all of my previously whinged about error messages by one of two
solutions, I don't know which one ultimately provided the fix, but erased
data entirely, and disconnected all users (Airport Utility Manual Setup
Disks Disconnect All Users). The backed up everything from scratch, the
major downside being loss of all historical backups.

The backups from scratch seemed to work. However now, not every time but
 intermittently, I get ...

Time Machine could not complete the backup.

This backup is too large for the backup disk. The backup requires 169.72GB
 but only 122.2MB are available.

Time machine needs work space ... blah blah blah

TM waits for me to click OK. Then, if I 'Backup now' TM proceeds with a
backup in the usual manner, and keeps going until next time I get the 'backup
 too large' message.

According to the TM Preferences window, there is about 500GB of available
space, which is about right after taking into account the two Macs I've
 backed up.

I've been putting up with the inaccurate 'backup too large' message, however
just now I had a need to go into TM and recover a previous version of a file
I've stuffed up. Disappointingly, I find that TM hasn't been retaining old
backup data. I have 'Now' backup, and that's it. No historical backups to
wade through. I assume this has something to do with the 'backup too large'
 problem.

The problem I'm having is with my MBP. I've checked TM on the other machine,
an iMac, backing up to this TC. No problem. Retention of historical backups
appear to be taking place for the iMac. All machines running latest OSX.

 Any suggestions?

 Cheers, Steven
