Re: Screen Grab on iPad mini

2013-10-28 Thread Neil Houghton
Just an observation, does some of this depend on your settings? When I take
a screenshot, there maybe a VERY faint sound certainly nothing like the
camera shutter sound, which is quite distinctive and MUCH louder. However, I
can see nothing in settings which allows you to change these particular
sounds/volumes.

No problem taking the screenshots, or finding them, though.

Cheers

Is this happening every time you take a screenshot on your iPad?

Press the 'On/Off' 'Home' buttons at the same time, then release both
buttons at same time. You will see the screen 'flash' hear camera shutter
 sound.

Open the app Photos Camera Roll Album... The screenshot should be there.

Filemaker Pro

2013-10-28 Thread Brett Curtis
I am adding another computer to my single computer office.
Is there any way FMP can be used real time by both computers.
I have tried putting the database in Dropbox. Both computers can access it but
changes made on one cannot be seen on the other.

Any suggestions?

also, what about Apple Mail. It seems that sent emails can only be seen on the
originating computer.

Apple calendar seems ok with them refreshing

Re: Filemaker Pro

2013-10-28 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Brett

Filemaker has Sharing that can be set up. So you can set up the database to be
shared via the local network.
(Should be in the sharing settings in the File menu from memory).

Re Mail. Sent will only stay in sync if you use IMAP for both email accounts.
IMAP may only work if your current host a) allows it and b) you have enough
storage space for all emails that you want store. (A lot of my hosted clients
start with 10GB storage space with this reason, as IMAP email doesn't take much
to build up quite quickly). IMAP is good for keeping everything in Sync, but
there are some downsides as well.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards
Daniel

Message that will not delete

2013-10-28 Thread Bill Parker
I received a message today at 11.06 withe header Re: Screen Grab on iPad
mini. Sent from Ronni Brown to Severin Crsip

I have deleted that message from my MacBook Pro running 10.7.5, but on my
iPhone4 I cannot delete it. I had tried

1. Edit then Trash. Does not work

2. Tap on message and then tap Trash. This results in a dissolve type response
but leaves original message intact.

Both methods I have tried numerous types thinking it was a long string of
messages, but to no avail.

I have now switching the off and on again.

This is entirely possible, but it does need a little planning and an
understanding of how Filemaker sharing works.

1. You must have ONLY ONE COPY of the database file(s), and the file(s) must be
on only one computer.

2. You must have a separate licence for each copy of Filemaker on the network,
otherwise they conflict.

3. The computer on which the file(s) reside becomes the host, and must be on
with Filemaker running at all times when you want to use the database.

4. The hosted file(s) must have sharing turned on. This is done by going to
File Sharing Filemaker Network... from the Filemaker Menu. This must be
done for each file in the solution. It's also very important that every file
has the same login and password.

5. On the Client computer, you find the hosted file by going to File Open
Remote... in the Filemaker Menu. By choosing Local Hosts in the resulting
dialog your host computer should show up (this can be annoyingly inconsistent).
For increased reliability, it is best to assign a manual IP address to the
hosting computer rather than leaving it up to DHCP.

6. The file(s) will be listed in the Open Remote... dialog. Choose the main
file for your solution and everything will work.

All of this explains why the Dropbox solution does not work as you have
described. Your file(s) CAN be in Dropbox, but you still need a hosting
computer to keep them open, and everything has to be done through that host.
You must not try to access the files directly from the client computer.

Another way out of this is to take out a Filemaker Development Subscription
(http://www.filemaker.com/technet/). It costs $99.00, but you do get a limited
licence for Filemaker Server Advanced which allows up to three simultaneous
connections. This is a far more powerful solution that native Filemaker
hosting, and provides for extra services such as relaible backups, web hosting
,etc. It would be a very cost-effective way of solving your problem.

Mavericks - Unhide the User Library Folder

2013-10-28 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Mavericks adoptees,

Mavericks hides the user Library folder ( ~/Library) by default, just as Lion
and Mountain Lion do.
You can open it easily enough by holding down Option while choosing Library
from the Finder’s Go menu, or you can use Terminal.app and type the command
chflags nohidden ~/Library (without the quotes) and hit Enter and your User
Library shows in Finder.

Mavericks introduces an easier way to make the user Library folder visible all
the time—no more fiddling in Terminal.
All you need to do is open your Home Folder in its own window, choose View
Show View Options, and select the Show Library Folder checkbox.

I would imagine Mavericks will behave the same way Mountain Lion Lion do; so
ever time an update appears (10.9.1 or 10.9.2), the User Library will be
re-hidden and you'll have to repeat this procedure... but it will be much
quicker than having to go into Terminal every time after each update to the OS
to have ~/Library folder visible all the time.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: Mavericks - Unhide the User Library Folder

2013-10-28 Thread Severin Crisp
That is a real help, Ronni. Terminal is interminable for non-regular Terminal
users! But why hide the Library in the first place? No one in their right
mind is going to seriously monkey with it and I am sure it will require at
least an administrator password like the Applications folder to pull anything
out of it.
Maybe I am living in an older world dream but I find all this security stuff a
real pain - like the rigmarole to make the IOS7.0.3 update tick after
installing it earlier today.
What has happened to the limit on mail retained in IOS7 Mail? Used to be 50
but I currently have 318 showing for two users and counting! Can not find
where to change it.
Enjoy this glorious, sunny, late spring day everyone, soon out tongues will be
hanging out when summer finally bites.
