Hey Tony,

I had replied to your query Sunday ;-)
You can use the same instructions for one key as I sent you for pasting Happy
Birthday To You all down the page.

Type 1, then select it (highlight), use Command-C (to copy), then Command-V (to
paste) and it will paste until you release the Command-V keys

You can use which ever way suits you.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: CIJScannerRegister

2015-01-06 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Stephen,

Did you install any updates to cause it to appear again?

You will have to use Terminal.app

sudo killall CIJScannerRegister

sudo rm -rf /Library/Image\ Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers

The first command simply kills the process which is causing the endless UDP
broadcast packets.

The second command deletes the application so it cannot start again on a
machine restart.
==

If it troubles you again, you might need to use terminal to delete the
executable inside the app bundle so the OS thinks it's still installed but it
can't run.

In Terminal:

killall CIJScannerRegister cd
/Library/Image\Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers/CIJScannerRegister.app/Contents/MacOS/
 sudo rm CIJScannerRegister

Actually, these tricks are only really necessary when using alphanumeric
characters (A-Z, 0-9). For all other characters (most usually “-“, “_”, or
“=), simply holding down the key in question causes it to repeat. The amount
of time before the repeat kicks in (“Delay Until Repeat”) can be set in the
Keyboard Preferences.

Re: Single Key Repeating.

2015-01-06 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hello Ronni
I know that you are very busy so I thought I'd just put it out to the group.
With the single key Ronni, I had it set up so that every time I pushed down on
1 key and kept my finger on it, the key would just repeat, I used it for
x or ii. Then for some reason it stopped working.
When you first helped Ronni, a while ago, I took notes on repeating Birthday
Wishes etc, and continue to use it, thank you.
I thought ( dangerous I know) that I had set up something to allow me to repeat
a letter just by holding a key down, nothing else, a puzzle that I am sure I'll
work out at some stage, until then I will use the FN key as you suggest.
Thank you my friend, our Mac' Guru

Love and best wishes

Ronni has sent an e-mail again with the instructions for repeating
sentences, thank you Ronni, but I had kept the notes for doing this, but
cannot find the instructions on what to do to use a single key.

 Thanks all

Re: Single Key Repeating.

2015-01-06 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hey Ronni
I only used the repeat function for nothing more than xxx as an
endearment, personal messaging, or ???.
You have now answered my question, thank you Ronni, it doesn't work with
Yosimite.

Take care, stay safe

 Hi Tony,

Apple removed the Single Key Repeating 'feature' because (as Peter has
mentioned) of the same special characters like áéöő...
So for example if you press and hold o, a mini popup should appear with
 special öő characters.
It's like that because it now allows a shortcut to diacritical marks.

You used to be able to disable this feature and restore repeating alphabetic
characters by typing the following command in Terminal:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false

But that no longer works in Yosemite.

I find the new functionality for diacritical marks useful and can't ever
remember having a need to type a long string of a single alpha character.

 Cheers,
 Ronni

2015-01-06 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Thank you Peter for your reply, in the past I just held a key down and it would
repeat, as I said to Ronni, I can't remember how I set it up, I only used it
when using xxx or !!
Not to worry. Ronni has given me peace of mind by telling me to use the FN key.
One day I will find out what I did originally.
Thanks Peter and Ronni

 Hey Tony,

I had replied to your query Sunday ;-)
You can use the same instructions for one key as I sent you for pasting
Happy Birthday To You all down the page.

Type 1, then select it (highlight), use Command-C (to copy), then Command-V
(to paste) and it will paste until you release the Command-V keys

You can use which ever way suits you.
