G3 Powerbook screen died- using TV???

2003-09-25 Thread Robert Morgan
Can I use a TV to view my G3 Powerbook desktop?
The monitor screen has just about died (stupid apple) and now I want to
be able to use the computer through my TV.

Some times, at a certain angle, I can see the screen;

I have the adaptor cable for video in/out, but how can I set the
monitor control panel up for the external tv screen? The monitor control
panel doesnt have any options of this kind, and there is limitted help
in the apple help tuits. Or am I supposed to tune the TV INTO the
powerbook (ie the other way round)??

OS 9.2.2, G3 Lombard Powerbook, 230RAM

Please help

Re: G3 Powerbook screen died- using TV???

2003-09-25 Thread Robert Morgan
Thanks for your reply. The screen is 90% of the time covered with
stripey colours. Sometimes, at a certain angle, I get the desktop, but
most of the time just a colour spectrum. Your link doesnt seem to be
working. do you still think it would be a cheap thing to fix?

It sounds like that if you can see the screen at angles or out in the
sun or under light that your backlight has gone out it is a fairly
cheap part to replace as you can see

http://www.powerbooktech.com/component,name-LCD-Backlight-for-
Powerbook-Pismo-(LG),type-Pismo.htm

that one is for the lg display pismo and is in US prices of course.

firmware update problem

2003-01-21 Thread Robert Morgan
Thanks to everyone who helped with my problem concerning networking.
Yes, I have OS 9.2.2, the only prob I couldnt solve was dragging the
shared folder onto the Shared Items box and setting it with guest access
privelidges.

Another question, if I may;

I cannot for the life of me find the firmware update for a Powerbook G3
(lombard) on the apple site so I can install OS X. Does anyone have this
file that might be able to send it to me? Or tell me a direct link where
it lies

Thanks again to all. Robert.

Firmware update for G3 Powerbooks

2003-01-21 Thread Robert Morgan
Rod, thanks for your reply. Yes there is firmware updates on the install
CD but only to support G4 powerbooks. There isnt any support for G3
powerbooks.

If you are using 10.2 install disks, have a look in the Utilities
folder. There is a Powerbook firmware updater hiding in there!

itunes

2002-10-04 Thread Robert Morgan
Dear Brett ,

I noticed you posted a query about exposing your mp3s to itunes for OS 9
and X (itunes 3). Did you have any luck with responses? There wasnt any
replies in the WAMUG archives. Like you, I want to have access to all my
compilations in both operating systems.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to your reply. Robert

Can anyone tell the best way to access all my organised mp3's in both

Re: Recording LP's

Toast isnt worth using due to all the hiss...

Get ProTools from www.digidesign.com It comes in a free version and will
do the trick. ProTools lets you edit the data to a high degree after
importing (via recording) the Lp tracks.

I would like to record some of my LP records on to CD using my
PowerMacG4 and OSX. I have purchased a iMic and it seems to be installed

OK but I can't find any information as to how to record to the hard disk

so I can then record on to a CD. I have Roxio Toast 5.
I am a recent convert to the Mac after many years doing battle with PCs
so my present Mac skills are limited.

Re: LaCie 40*CD-RW

2002-06-28 Thread Robert Morgan
I have a Lacie external drive and have had no problems. Its quieter and
quicker in mounting CD roms than the apple ROM Drive in my imac 333.
Actually, it mounts cds that the apple drive won't (yes, I havent worked
that one out yet either!). Burns cds fine too.

I have a grey G3, 352 MbRAM with USB port and urgently need to purchase
a CD-RW before the 30 June 2002.

I have been quoted $500 for the Lacie model and would urgently
appreciate comments as to whether the Lacie is the machine to buy or
whether there is a better alternative.

I basically need the drive to back up files and to transfer files
between the G3 and PC computers at work. Naturally DVD compatibility
would be an advantage!

Sorry if the information is low on technical side!!

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Should I buy OSX?

2002-04-24 Thread Robert Morgan
I am a Macite in the field of computer music generation using MIDI etc
and am thinking about getting OSX. Firstly, would it be beneficial in my
situation? I have heard it is only advantageous for unix related use.
Most of the apps I use are not compatable with OSX so therefore would
have to use Classic which aparently chews up much memory. I also use
Photoshop. What advantages would there be for me to make the upgrade (I
have OS 9.2.2 atm)? I have am imac 333 with 256 RAM with 9 GB. Will I
have any problems with my configuation if I did upgrade?

Thanks in advance to anyones help.
