[WAMUG} WAMUG AGM and User Group: Tuesday 1 June 2021

2021-05-26 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGERS.

Well, COVID has certainly made life interesting over the last 15 or so months
and different and sometimes harder. We didn’t have User Groups for a while and
now they are done via Zoom. But some things still roll on relentlessly and
other things change yet stay the same. Your Committee has still been meeting
and the WAMUG is still alive and kicking.

Did I say somethings still roll on relentlessly? Well, it’s that time of year
for the annual general meeting (AGM). Where your committee stands down and you
get to vote in a new committee - as long as you are a paid up member of course.

A big thank you to those that have renewed your subscriptions. Apologies again
on behalf of the committee for the difficulties earlier on. Who could know that
dealing with one of the Big Four banks could be so difficult?!

Anyway, all is good now. This week, we have started going through the
membership mailing list to ensure that financial members can still post online.
Any non-financial members will have posting privileges suspended. This is done
each year before the AGM.

Now - the committee. As I said before, the current committee will stand down as
required at the AGM and a new committee for the next year is elected.

Have you thought about being on the committee?

It is not that arduous and fresh talent and views are always wanted and
welcomed. The committee has still been meeting in person once a month because
it has suited us but there is no reason why you couldn’t join the committee
and, if not wanting or unable to attend the committee meetings in person, just
Zoom in and partake. If you are interested in any position, please drop an
email to me at members...@wamug.org.au .

Under the WAMUG Constitution, the committee needs a "President, Vice President,
Secretary and Treasurer, and such other Members as determined by the Group in
General Meeting.” Please consider helping the WAMUG by becoming a committee
member. The current committee members have volunteered to stand again but the
constitution says we should have a minimum of five and we currently only have
four as one had to leave.

Dependent on the rush of nominations, voting details will be forwarded out over
the weekend. If you Zoom in to the AGM, you can vote in person!

The AGM will be held immediately before the June User Group, via Zoom.

See the website for full details.
>.

7.30 pm start. (User Groups by Zoom ten to go for about an hour or so.)
See you there.

Regards

Pete Smith

User Group Postponed

2020-04-02 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGERS

The committee hopes that you are all well and safe and travelling (not
literally) through these somewhat uncertain times without too much worry.

As you have probably guessed, because of the current COVID19 situation, our
monthly User Group for April has been cancelled and the annual general meeting
(AGM) postponed.

The committee will keep an eye on the announcements made by the governments as
to when it is safe to resume.

In regards to the AGM, we are looking for a new treasurer as our current
treasurer is no longer able to do the job, nor be on the committee. Please
consider coming on board to help out, either as the treasurer or just a
committee member. Your committee is getting smaller and smaller and we need
your help. It is not onerous being on it.

If you wish to come on board, or want more info, please send an email to
members...@wamug.org.au and one of us will get back to you.

Take care and stay safe.

Pete Smith

WAMUG User Group Reminder: This Tuesday 3 March 2020

2020-03-02 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGERS.

The next monthly User Group is just around the corner. In fact, it’s tomorrow,
Tuesday, 3 March 2020.

This month, amongst all the interesting questions and answers that we have been
having we will be looking spreadsheets. The basics, what they can do including
basic formulae. A foundation to build on so to speak.

So grab your Macs, iPads and iPhones and come on out to Bullcreek for
information on all things Apple and a cuppa and chat. Of course don’t forget
the most important part - gotta problem? Ask and have it solved.

Hope you can make it.

Location: The Bullcreek Leeming Scout Hall. Bob Gordon Reserve, Benningfield
Road, Bullcreek.
Time: 7.30pm - 9.30pm

Location Details
The WAMUG User Group now meet at the Bullcreek Leeming Scout Hall at the Bob
Gordon Reserve, Benningfield Road, Bullcreek. There is plenty of parking right
outside the door.

How to get there. The three main drags that get you there are the Kwinana
Freeway and either Leach Highway or South Street, depending on where you travel
from.

From the north: Travel south on the Kwinana Freeway and you have two choices.
1) You can get off at Leach Highway and then chuck a right into Bull Creek
Drive. Go down to the round-a-bout at Parry Avenue and turn left. The first
right is Benningfield Road. Travel a short distance and the turn-off into Bob
Gordon Reserve will be on your right.

2) Apple Maps say that you travel on the Kwinana Freeway further south and get
off at South Street (turn left) and then turn left onto Benningfield Road.
Follow that up until it starts to curve right and the turn-off into Bob Gordon
Reserve is on your left.

From the south: Travel north up the Kwinana Freeway and get off at South
Street, turning right, then turn left onto Benningfield Road. Follow that up
until it starts to curve right and the turn-off into Bob Gordon Reserve is on
your left.

From the east or west: Get onto either Leach Highway or South Street and follow
the relevant directions as stated above.

WAMUG User Group Reminder: This Tuesday 5 November 2019

2019-11-04 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGERs

Well, the Melbourne Cup is near at hand and that really means just one thing.
Yes, the WAMUG November User Group is on the same day. That’s right, tomorrow,
Tuesday 5 November 2019, the User Group is meeting at 7.30pm.

Whilst it will a meeting packed with exciting things, it will probably be
tinged with sadness as it may well be the last meeting in Riverton. However,
the user group will continue at another location - more on that later.

So, what’s in store for tomorrow night?

 - Apple Notes. We’ll look at different ways to use it such as for recipes,
dictation and other interesting ways.
 - Default Folder by St Clair Software. A program where you can set up default
folders to save things in for different apps. Save time hunting for those
particular folders you regularly use.
 - Notion – a quick look at a big note taking application.

So grab your Macs, iPads and iPhones and head on out to Riverton for
information and a cuppa and chat. Of course don’t forget the most important
part - gotta problem? Ask and have it solved. I know I have one or two this
week.

Re: AGM and Nominations and Subscriptions.

2019-03-27 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGERS.

Two quick notifications.

First, nominations for the Officer positions on the committee were very limited
and there being no more than one nomination for each of only a couple of them
the nominees will be elected unopposed next week at the AGM. There were also
only a couple of nominees for the committee members so they will also be
elected unopposed next week. Consequently, there will be no postal vote
arranged.

Secondly, the list membership was updated last night and anyone who was not
financial was moderated (very, very few). If you go to post and find your
message held “for moderation”, it means that we did not have a record of your
payment. If you have paid, could you please resend a copy of the payment or
details so that we can fix it up (to members...@wamug.org.au
<mailto:members...@wamug.org.au>).

Pete Smith

AGM and Nominations and Subscriptions.

2019-03-19 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGERS.

The 2019 annual general meeting of the Western Australian Macintosh Users’
Group will be held before the next monthly user group on Tuesday, 2 April 2019,
starting at 7.30pm.

Nominations are being called for positions on the committee as all positions
will be declared vacant. The closing date for nominations is next Tuesday, 26
March 2019 at 5pm. If there is more than one nomination for any of the four
Officer positions, a vote will held on the night to elect a nominee to the
relevant position. There will also be an online voting form to enable those
unable to attend the meeting to vote. If there is only one nominee for any
particular position, the person will be elected unopposed and no online vote
will need to be cast for that position.

The four Officer positions available are:

1 President.
2 Vice President.
3 Treasurer.
4 Secretary .

Plus Committee members.

Please consider helping out by coming onto the committee.

If you have any queries in regards to the committee positions, please feel free
to drop me an email via the List. Please type AGM query in the Subject line to
enable easy identification of your email.

Subscriptions.

To be eligible to vote in the AGM you must be a current financial member.
Subscriptions for WAMUG are based on the calendar year so the 2019 annual
subscriptions fell due on the 1 January this year. A big thank you to all those
who have paid up and maintained their membership.

As is the usual practice, next Tuesday evening in the week before the AGM, the
membership list will be gone through and any unfinancial members will be
blocked from posting to the list until they become finacial, although you will
still receive your daily digest or individual messages. You just won’t be able
to post to the list and get help. More importantly, you won’t be able to vote
in the AGM.

With Christmas and New Year well and truely over and the schools all back, it's

time fly?

The first user group of 2019 is on tomorrow, Tuesday 5 February at 7.30pm in

This year we’re starting with an action packed user group. Do you know what you
can actually ask Siri? Well we’ll explore and find out. Plus what about all
those photos and files on your iPad. Wouldn’t you feel safer if you could
transfer them to a USB stick. Scan disk iExpand can do that. To cap the evening
off we’ll be looking at changing folder and Dock icons.

So grab your iPads, iPhones and Macs and head on out to Riverton.

Treasurer - Peter Botman.
Vice-President - no nomination.
Secretary - no nomination.
General committee members - Bernard Barnwell, Peter Hinchliffe, Daniel Kerr,
Peter Smith.

It was planned to send out an email on Sunday night to current financial
members with a link to a voting form to enable postal votes to be made.
However, as the number of nominations do not meet the required number of
committee members and, more importantly, there is only one nomination for each
of the President and Treasurer positions, all people who have nominated will be
elected unopposed at the AGM. No voting required, hence that is why you did not
receive an email.

The President’s and Treasurer’s reports will be presented but there are no
other planned items on the agenda. There will, however, be a general business
period for any last minute items that someone may want to raise.

The AGM will be followed by the monthly meeting. This month we will be looking
at the function of the ruler in word processing documents and understanding how
it actually works e.g. margins etc. The ruler is applicable to both Pages and
Word.

So grab your Macs, iPads and iPhones and come along. There’s plenty of helpful
conversations and tea, coffee and biscuits of course.

WAMUG AGM: next Tuesday 3 April 2018

2018-03-27 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGGERS.

Time is passing quickly and if you have been as busy as I have been, it's been
going past at an alarming rate: which is why this email is a tad late in the
scheme of things and I apologise for that.

Anyway, next Tuesday, 3 April 2018 is the Annual General meeting of WAMUG.

Nominations for committee members.

As I said in the last monthly meeting announcement, we are asking for people to
consider coming onto the committee to provide some fresh blood and ideas. It is
not arduous and, although there is a committee meeting every month, it’s OK if
you miss some. In fact, if you can only make every second meeting that would be
OK.

WAMUG really needs your help so please consider giving a little bit of your
time every month or other month. The committee meetings are held on the third
Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm in South Perth. They don’t take long.

All the seats on the committee are up for grabs. They are: President, Vice
President, Secretary and Treasurer (the named positions) and general committee
members.

If you would like to nominate, please send your name to me, Pete Smith, c/
members...@wamug.org.au . Tell me which
position you would like to nominate for. The four named positions are voted in
individually whilst, unless there are an excessive number of nominations, the
general committee members are voted in en masse.

It is important that the President and Treasurer positions are filled.

Voting.

Voting can be done in a couple of ways. Firstly, by attendance at the AGM.
Secondly, by postal votes. The same as what occurred last year will happen.
Financial members will receive an email with a link to click which will take
them to where they can cast their votes. This email will be sent out on Sunday
night, 1 April 2018.

Financial Members.

Only current financial members are eligible to vote. Memberships are due at the
beginning of each year so, hopefully, you have all renewed your memberships. If
you haven’t, you have a limited time to do so. Any non-financial members will
have their ability to post to the list removed this Sunday also.

If you can’t post to the list, you can’t vote either.

Please do consider helping out and offer a bit of your time as a committee
member to keep WAMUG going on strong.

Regards,

Pete Smith

colour relates to colour blindness. A marvellous app if you into doing things
for the web and we’ll also take a quick look at Color Schema Studio to see how
colours matchup. Another good app if your into designing or maybe just some
quilting!!

So gather up your Macs, iPads and iPhones and come on down to Willeton.

Meeting Reminder: Tonight, Tuesday 5 December 2017

2017-12-04 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGERS.

Christmas is fast approaching but not as fast as the last chance to get a WAMUG
monthly meeting this year. Yes, the December meeting is on tonight, Tuesday 5
December, 2017.

The topics for tonight were easy to work out because the last two meetings
produced exciting divergences from the plan with questions that led from one
topic to another. So much learnt, so much taught.

So we’ll see if we get through the topics tonight but if we don’t, well we will
learn so much more anymore.

Tonight we’ll be taking a look at some tips and tricks to help you in your
interwebby searches (long live Corner Gas!) and also exploring how to make sure
the colour you want is the same throughout your document. We’ll look at colour
models, using the colour picker and getting a really good understanding of what
RGB is. (Same topics so same paragraph from last month!)

So pack up your iPhones, iPads and Macs and head on out to Willeton.

WAMUG Meeting Reminder: Tuesday 5 September 2017

2017-09-04 Thread WAMUG Annoucement
G’day all WAMUGERS.

Winter is over and Spring here so why don’t you put a spring in your step and
spring on over to Willeton for our September monthly meeting. It’s on tomorrow
night, 5 September 2017, at 7.30pm.

This month we’ll be looking at Perth Transport on the updated Maps. Plus Photos
- have we got some photo stuff for you. We’ll be looking at apps to help you
find duplicates, learning about the simple terminology (what’s a RAW JPEG I
hear you ask?) and looking at the metadata. What the metadata from your camera
can tell you (and others) and how you can add your own metadata to old photos.
Talking of old photos, want to crop that ex friend out, we’ll show you how plus
plugins for more power!!

Finally we’ll be taking a quick look at Icons, specifically the website
stocki.com.

So pack up up your Macs, iPads and iPhones and come along.
