I've tried ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads in
Go to Folder but it results in the message Folder cannot be found

Could this be because I'm using OS 10.7.5?

Hi Bill,

Mail Downloads folder.

The folder’s name is the only thing that’s obvious about it: it’s deeply buried
in a series of folders, one of which is invisible.
To view its contents, choose Go Go to Folder in the Finder, type (or copy and
paste from here)
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads, and click Go.

You should visit this folder sometime if only because it probably has at least
a gigabyte of detritus, much of which you could probably trash. You’ll likely
find hundreds of folders with alphanumeric names, each holding a downloaded
attachment. That seemingly inefficient setup is necessary in order to avoid
having identically named attachments saved to the same folder.

Re: Sync Contacts, Calendars and Reminders between iPhone 4S and MacBook Pro

2011-10-24 Thread michael.hawkins
Thanks Ronni,

I think at this stage I'll simply make sure that calendar entries are the same
on the iPhone and on the computer, and, after a while, have a go at mastering
contacts on the phone and contacts on the computer. As far as that goes, I
haven't been able to resolve conflicts between Address Book and Entourage and
Address Book and Outlook so I suspect it'll be a while before I attempt to do
that between devices.

It all started going wrong some years ago when I used Mark/Space and lost
silent numbers that were listed on my phone but weren't in contacts in
Entourage, or in Address Book.

Although I have Pages for iOS, I'll continue to lug my laptop home rather than
attempt to use my iPhone ofr word processing.

Thanks again, your help is invaluable.

Michael.

The way I read the documentation, you have to physically drag and drop any

I would not want that to happen. I want to choose what I send to iCloud,

iCloud is for iDevices … iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch.

All that goes to iCloud is data already on your iDevice ( iPhone, iPad) and new

Hi Michael,

I’m not sure what is happening as my replies are not coming into WAMUG Mailing
list for some reason.
I posted the reply below at 5:12:51 PM yesterday and it hasn’t arrived to the
WAMUG Mailing list yet?

I realised I had not typed the correct link in my reply regarding ‘Missing
iSync’

So, sorry Michael from Ronni ;-)

The link I supplied previously I had not typed correctly :-(
If you click on this link, you will download the latest version of iSync.
iSync: http://jools.me/iSync.zip

Cheers,
Ronni

===
Lol Daniel, not often I beat you to the ‘Punch Line’ ;-)

Actually Michael, the latest version of iSync should work in Lion with a Nokia:

If you click on this link, you will download the latest version of iSync.
iSync: goo.gl/xyusc
Click on the iSync.zip archive in your downloads folder and it will expand into
the application itself.
Move the iSync application into your Applications folder.

Now, try and run the Nokia plugin installer (it should run unless there is
something about Lion that prevents its functioning).
If it does not install, then use the below procedure to manually install the
plugin.

Here's a way to manually install the plugin:

1-Obtain the plug-in installer from Nokia. Open the dmg archive.

2-Right-click on the installer package itself (not the dmg archive). Select
show package contents from the contextual menu.

3-Open the Contents folder.

4-Drag the item Archive.pax.gz to the desktop.

5-Right-click on Archive.pax.gz and open it with Archive Utility

6-You'll see a folder called Library on the desktop. Inside this Library
folder you'll see a PhonePlugins folder. Inside this PhonePlugins folder is a
folder with a name that probably begins with Nokia_ (For instance, for my
n79, the name of this folder is Nokia_N79_isync_plugin_2v1.phoneplugin).

Drag the Nokia_ folder to a pre-existing folder in the following location:
Mac HD (or whatever you name your primary hard drive) /Library/PhonePlugins.
If the PhonePlugins folder doesn't already exist, you may create one in the
path above.

7- What you should end up with is: Mac HD/Library/PhonePlugins/Nokia_...

Now, run iSync, plug in your phone, and do an Add Device from within iSync.
Should work.

Oh my goodness now I realise you are still working in Snow Leopard, so possibly
an easier way for you to get iSync to work in Lion:

Lion and Outlook

2011-08-25 Thread michael.hawkins
I'm using Lion (latest iteration) and Office 2011 (latest version). Things were
going well until yesterday, when out of the blue the scrolling bar disappeared
from the various panes in Outlook. I've found that if I adjust the width of the
pane, the scroll bar reappears. Sometimes I have to widen the pane so that the
bar appears, other times I have to narrow the pane. So far I have not been able
to discern any pattern. A feature? A quirk? Definitely a pain in the butt.

There are two pieces of software out there that I regard as pretty much
mandatory on any Mac that I own: one is 1Password, and the other is Default
Folder (but that's another story). The true magic of 1Password shows itself
when you access a web site that requires authentication. 1Password will capture
your login and password (but only with your permission!) and automatically
create an entry in its database for you. It also puts a very handy little icon
in your browser's toolbar (works with all popular browsers) that gives you
access to many of 1Password's features without launching the software at all.

1Password would be valuable enough for its password capture alone, but it also
keeps track of all your software licence keys, credit card numbers, expiries,
etc (with automatic fill-in on web forms), and even private notes.

It is a bit of work to set up 1Password in the first instance with all your
stuff, but it's time well spent. It does base its password directory on, and
works in concert with, the built-in keychain database, so it pretty much
becomes part of the system. The ability to sync with the iPhone or iPad gives a
very handy and effective backup system as well.

1Password is pretty much perfect at what it is designed to do (not much good at
word processing, though...)

Hi Marlene,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm with Westnet and I've found the best
way to handle emails is to log onto webmail (for Westnet that is
webmail.westnet.com.au). I can then quickly run my eye down the list of emails

Much faster than using Outlook or Mail.

Subject: Travels with my iPad

Hello All

I have just returned from a month's cruising and 5 days in China - with mixed
results using my brand new iPad. (5 countries,11 ports so no sim card).

Downloading photos/videos from 2 new cameras ( a Canon Powershot G12 and a
Nikon D7000) at the end of each day was great and enabled adjustments to be
made to camera settings the next day.
Whiling away long hours at airports was a breeze with games and books loaded
before I left.

Emails were not so successful.
All during the voyage the ship Diamond Princess had great problems with
internet connections and it was quite common for 1 email to take up to 100
minutes to send - and then sometimes fail.
At $3.95 to log on and then 75 cents per minute - I decided not to help the US
economy!
Another problem - I unsubscribed from WAMUG the day before I left to cut back
on the number of emails received - but did not find out for 3 weeks that there
was a verification email after I left - so huge numbers of emails continued to
arrive. When in port I was never able to access internet cafes until my last
few days and a visit to the Apple Store in Beijing - along with half the youth
population there.
Another complication. On advice from my One-to-One trainer at the Apple Store
here in Perth I had changed my email accounts on my iMac (thanks Daniel K) and
my iPad from a POP to IMAP account. Optus did not like this so blocked a lot of
my emails when they reached a certain number. The email I tried to send from
the Beijing Store on 4 Mar came with the message, Service not available but
was delivered on the 12 March!
Optus treated my attempts at SMS the same way - on a pre-paid mobile - some
were successful, most failed.

I'm off on another cruise in Europe in May/June so hope I can resolve these
communication issues.

Regards

Marlene Oostryck

However, Kingston support say that it will support 512MB through 2 x
256MB
modules. Kingston's 256MB module requires iMAC firmware 1.2 or
higher, which
shouldn't be a problem as you would have updated the firmware for
10.2. The
downside is the price. Less demand means higher price. We
(AppleCentre
Albany) can supply the 256 modules for $230 inc-GST each (plus
postage).
These come with a lifetime warranty. By the way, we can also supply
RAM for
*nearly* all models of Apple computers.

NOTE!!! We have recently been approved to open a new APPLE service
centre in
Bunbury. Our service engineer is already in Bunbury and working from
home
until we find suitable premises. He is also there for general Apple
support.
Any WAMUGgers or associates in the area who don't want to send their
precious cargo to Perth need no longer do so!

4. Not a question :-)
5. iiNet Westnet are very good ISPs, either one a good choice.
From a regional perspective, I rate Westnet higher because of
their
excellent support.
If she can get ADSL it will give her a much better experience
than
having to deal with
the issues which will almost certainly come up with dialup
through the
old iMac modem
connecting to the old regional copper.
Believe me, I've lived it through dozens of customers

6. The Epson C60 has support through drivers up to 10.2.x. It
*should* work
with 10.3.x.

Cheers,
Stuart

Canon digital SLR

2005-02-08 Thread michael.hawkins

I've had a Conon 300D since June, and use it with the lenses that I
had for my 12 year old (and still going strong) EOS 1000. The lenses
are standard 105m zoom, 75-300m zoom and 100m(?)-500m Sigma zoom. The
500 zoom is sharp enough for me to see a fellow in a wheel chair who
was 2500 metres away from where I took the photo. The 300D is a great
camera but naturally enough I'm a bit envious that the 20D doesn't
cost much more now than the 300D did last June.

Don't forget to factor in the scan disc cost. I bought a 1 gb disc
but I think that 6 gb discs are available.

Plaza Digital (upstairs in Plaza Arcade, Murray Street end) and
Camera Video in City Arcade (Murray Street level and end) are two
shops worth visiting.

YASU

2004-02-26 Thread michael.hawkins

Has anyone had any problems after running YASU?

It may be coincidence, but after I ran it I had trouble sending (but
no trouble receiving) email, and after the second time I ran it the
battery in my PowerBook wouldn't hold its charge.

I'm using a G3 PowerBook 400 (Firewire), OS 10.2.8

Regards,

Michael Hawkins
