Re: Agriculture WA Explorer only?

2009-04-09 Thread David Paul
Yes and still no luck registering which has me confused if it works
for some why not for me? I have tried to resolve this on both my
Macbook Pro using 10.5.6 and Firefox 3 as well as on my Imac using
10.4.11 and Firefox 3 with the plug in loaded on both.

A mystery ...

Re: Agriculture WA Explorer only?

2009-04-08 Thread Kaye and Geoff

Hi Wamuggers

The reason that this site requires IE is that it uses vbscript code,
which as far as I know can only be understood by IE, although it may
be that other browsers can interpret it with the help of a plug-in.
If they had used Javascript then any browser could handle it, but
many government departments are so Microsoft blinkered that this is
beyond both their imagination and capability.

This means that purely changing the user agent, which most browsers
including Safari 3 will do for you, will not solve the problem. In
fact a quick look at the HTML for the site suggests that it does not
even check to see what user agent is being used.

Anyone trying the site using a slow connection should be aware that
the main page includes a 20Mb(!) flash file - another example of
their lack of concern for their clients, many of whom will live in
the country and will not have broadband connections. Your taxes at
work.

They even plan to remove Adobe SVG Viewer from the Adobe.com
download area on January 1, 2009, and redistribution by third
parties is not allowed by the licence.

Hi

Agriculture WA has a fantastic web site for farm owners that
requires you to register before you can access it.

http://spatial.agric.wa.gov.au/findyourfarm/

Unfortunately this appears not able to be done via Safari or
Firefox and according to the Dept contact person requires
Explorer for access - my reluctantly downloaded IE 5.2.3
refuses to allow registration as well.

Any clues or work around that people may know of would be
appreciated.

Using MacOS 10.5.6 and Safari 3.2.1
