thanks to everyone's responces to my dilemma,

a fellow Architect in Chicago suggested that the new version V4.1
(universal), write to a different database setup to the older
version 3 ( PPC), so when I opened, reopened the file in the latest
version , it wasn't able save to the old database.
So its seems the leap from PPC to Universal has lead to some backward
file incompatibility.

Oh well, I re-did 2 days of work that I lost on the project- just
about all done now.

Time to move.

Just now I thought what if I open the app in my Test user account

did a forced restart

Hi Gary,

What Software Application did you update to v 4.1 Universal?

Its an architect orientated 3D Design software called BoA.

It started in 1996 as an offshoot of an app called Architrion - and
is an advanced sophisticated 3D solids modeler app. Version 2 was
released in about 2001. I took it up in 2003 version 2.4.6 and used
under OS 8.6/ 9.0 It required a Quickdraw 3D extension and printed
to postscript and written with MacApp. Evidently they were
developing some sophisticated 3D technology with Apple until Apple
pulled the pin and move onto OSX. This event seemed to slowed its
development quite a bit.

In late 2005 they released version 3, which could run under OS X via
Rosetta. all files were backwards compatible, in effect the software
didn't change at all- it maintained its basic functionality.

Then in late 2008 they issued a universal version to run natively
under OSX and written with XCode, but has numerous bugs. I was hoping
v 4.1 release would resolve some of the bugs but alas not fully yet.

This saving bug might just be my machine after all.

I ought to add that the developers are French, who seem to run a
different line to the rest of us!

Thanks Gary,

I've previously read the forums on Architosh. Doesn't sound like BoA
will ever be as comprehensive as ArchiCAD.

BoA does have problems as you obviously already know ;-)

I can't understand though why you are unable to Save or Save As ...

Choosing Save simply saves your work by updating the last saved
version of the file to match the current version you see on your screen.

Choosing Save As... brings up a prompt to save your work as a file
with a different name. For example, you might choose to save a
document called Design - rev. 3 as Design - rev. 4. This way, you
can save your file at different stages and keep multiple versions on
your hard drive.

Choosing Save and then Save As... is also a good way to make a
backup of your file. Just be sure to rename the file something new
when you choose Save As... or you will overwrite the current saved
version, just like choosing the Save command would do.

Normally I've found if you are unable to ‘Save’ a file:
Do a ”Save as” instead of a ordinary ”Save”, thus overwriting the
original file.

Hope you can get it sorted.

Cheers,
Ronni

I have software which recently had an update v 4.1 universal -
(previously ran under rosetta)

On my MacPro 10.5.6
when ever I open a file and go to save it, the save is not kept.

I checked this on , my Macbook 10.5.6 using same version of software
when I open a file ( existing or new) and go to save it, it is kept
- ie works properly

any ideas whats going on?

I have a file which I worked a full day on, despite copy/paste to new
files, doing save as backup copy, non of the file data is kept?

I still have this file open and dare not close it case there is some
work around I have missed so that my efforts are kept.

Hi Gary,

You don't by chance have this file in a locked folder?
Some applications delete the existing file and create a new one when
saving, and if the folder is locked, that stops it from doing so.

Re: File not saving?

2009-08-07 Thread Neil Houghton

Hi Gary, have you tried doing save as to create a duplicate file rather
than just save to save to the existing file.

It might help if there is some problem with your existing file - it could
also help if the problem is a locked folder - just select a different
(unlocked) folder to save to.

Cheers
