Hi Jewels,

I understand very well being caught up in urgent work, it's an occupational 
hazard for many of us ;-)

Good to hear you were able to delete all the temp files, I was certain they 
would be causing problems in iTunes.

If you have anymore issues with files not being able to be written to the 
iTunes library files we would need to look at why, or what third party 
add-on/plug-in or program is preventing this to happen.

Hi Ronnie

So sorry for my rudeness on not replying until now - have been caught up with 
urgent work.

I did delete the temp files and since I have perhaps added 5 files into iTunes 
- so far so good !!  I had almost a gb of temp files.
Hopefully my iTunes will run okay again.

Hi Jewels,

Is iTunes working any better after you deleted all the Temp files as per my 
previous reply?

Some temp files are caches for interrupted downloads for things you had 
purchased that developed an error during media purchase downloads. That didn't 
completely download properly. 

Other temp files are error dump files that can cause iTunes to not run properly.

But it sounds like you might have some old Library folders still in your 
Home/Music/iTunes folder.

Files into iTunes I gave previously.

I think what Ronni suggested was that I go to the iTunes folder / library, 
locate the relevant folder and drop in directly ?  I have numerous folders in 
iTunes, each for the relevant subject or website podcast.  It would take me 
ages to do it that way I feel and is easier just to reformat them in my 
iskysoft software.  

I have just played around with an offending file, being careful  not to touch 
any other folder on the way to iTunes, but still the same problem.  I have been 
loading up my iTunes since the early 2000’s and never had such a problem.  When 
iTunes will not quit, I have to do a restart, which interrupts the other jobs I 
am doing at the time and have to restart them again once the Mac has restarted. 
 

On what I have gathered from the web, many people are experiencing problems now 
with iTunes, I think I must be just one of them.  I would really like to go 
back to the older version of iTunes, when it was operating perfectly, but not 
sure if that is really viable.

You should now be ok then.
In iTunes 12.4.1.6 if you have Movies selected (not Music or TV shows in top 
menu bar) you will then see in the Sidebar: Recently added, Movies, Genes, Home 
Videos.

I have heaps of movies imported into iTunes for watching on AppleTV4.
I also have PLEX Media Server on my MBP and ATV4 which holds all my Movies I 
prefer using it as it doesn't have the limitations of the built-in Apple TV 
apps and iTunes. Also PLEX Movies Library viewing interface is better.

PLEX is a media player and management system that serves videos, audio files, 
and photos to your AppleTV. It offers features far beyond what Apple provides, 
such as:
Playing video in multiple formats
Move versatile storage management than iTunes
Automatic metadata management

computer is ON.

Recently Itunes started playing the following song overlapping the  
previous one i.e. no gap between songs.
I've looked and looked but can't find a way to adjust the gap between  
songs (not talking about burning - just playing existing playlists)

Colin, have you checked the Crossfade Playback in the Playback  
section of iTunes prefs? If so, unchecking will restore the gap.
