Re: Problem with installing downloaded software
Hi all At the risk of seeming a doom-sayer: While the work-around you have will work fine, you are supposed to be able to do what you have attempted! You are the Administrator after all. Sorry that I can't offer a better solution to your situation but if it was me, I wouldn't be fully satisfied. Why for instance can I do what you cannot? As time goes by we will all be using more and more native applications so these issues should fade but I guess I'm just a worry-wart! Problem with installing downloaded software
Hi Muggers, A colleague of mine is unable to install software downloaded from the net (or taken from a cd we have given him), even though two other people have succeeded in doing so. The difference, is that he is using an e-mac running OSX, while we are running OS8.6 and 9.2. The problem is that when the software tries to install, an error message comes up followed by another message stating that he does not have sufficient access privileges to proceed. Obviously, he can run 'classic' software, so it seems to me that the problem has something to do with privileges assigned to software installs by his computer (which is not part of a network). The software itself does not have any such restrictions applied to it. Any suggestions on getting around this problem would be appreciated! As always, thanks in advance.. Greg

Any suggestions on getting around this problem would be appreciated! As always, thanks in advance.. Greg In the brave new world of Mac OS X (based on Unix) each user has their own box in which to play, install software, etc. theoretically without being able to affect other users. This is true even if there's only one user on the machine. So, to install software etc. you need to have what essentially amounts to 'administrator privileges'. If you open the System Preferences App and open the Accounts panel, you'll see a list of all available users. You can grant users administrator privileges from this panel, although ironically you may need to know the administrator password in order to do so. Thanks, Shay
