Hello Paul, the superdrive sounds like good value, how much did you
pay
for installation or did you do it yourself, Cheers Bill

I got the drive from Austin computers Cannington (ask for Adam and
mention my name) you may have to pay $180 at worst I reckon.

The install is a doddle for me as I know a little about the internals.

The drive replaces the original, in its position and in its config
(being the secondary master that is).
Where my original Zip was (now in a PC) I have a 40gb slave drive to
add to the 40gb drive which is the master and alone on the other
channel (this setup seemed to be impossible under OS9 with this Rev A
G3). Good old OSX.

We took the precaution some months ago, in anticipation of the
Superdrive, of replacing the original 350mhz CPU with a 500mhz Sonnet
unit bought from another list member.

Glitch count:
0 (however a ram module did die when we replaced the CPU, but it was
a dodgy unit I believe and possibly a coincidence anyway)

OS rating:
10/10

Tools required:
Espresso Machine.
Phillips-head screwdriver.

Chuffed!

Cheers

Paul

Hey guys,

Just want to get your opinion on something quickly if ya don't mind.
A friend just dropped off a 500mhz G3 imac they've just bought which
I've committed to get up and running as it were...(you know the price of
evangelism!)

It's arrived with OS10.0.4 on (h scary!)

My friend just wants to surf, muck around with Photoshop a bit and do
lots of DJ-ey music type stuff

The question being

go up to Panther
or down to OS9

thanks for any wisdom
