Re: Fan speedDear
Hi Barry, Reset the SMC (System Management Controller) first. The SMC controls the operation of the fans and this may clear a problem if it is coming from there. 1. Shut down the computer. 2. Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals. 3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. 4. Release the power button. 5. Attach the computers power cable. 6. Press the power button to turn on the computer. If that does not fix the problem. Run the Apple Hardware Test in 'Extended' mode and see what kind of error it may pick up. Apple Hardware Test is included on the DVDs that are shipped with some Macs, or you can run AHT following the instructions at this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 Cheers, Ronni 17 MacBook Pro 2.3GHz Quad-Core i7 “Thunderbolt 2.3GHz / 8GB / 750GB @ 7200rpm HD OS X 10.7.4 Lion Windows 7 Ultimate (under sufferance) On 15/05/2012, at 7:42 AM, Barry Sexstone wrote: Dear All Occasionally I find the fans on my iMac running fast. Re: Fan speedDear
Good Morning Ronni I have previously reset the SMC the first time the problem occurred. As it is so infrequent I have not bothered again but will try your suggestions if/when it happens again. Frequency has only been about every 4-6 weeks and the number of occurrences has only been about 3 or 4. My query was really only a general one to see if anyone thought this was an indication of possible future problems. Hopefully, running the extended hardware test should indicate this and I will run it if the problem returns. Many thanks for your help.
