Telstra NextG tethering does work already

2009-06-18 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi, I have been able to get tethering working for Telstra NextG with
the aid of a little config file downloaded from the discussion forum
on Whirlpool - so even if Telstra is slow off the mark, it isn't
because it can't be done.

Now, I'm not going to use it because of the expense.

cheers, Susan.

Hi, I have been able to get tethering working for Telstra NextG with

Now, I'm not going to use it because of the expense.

cheers, Susan.

Can you post the details here on how you did it?

Regards,
Paul.

Re: Telstra NextG tethering does work already

2009-06-18 Thread Peter Meyer

Hi Sue
I don't know if you are saying that the message to contact Telstra was
seen only when you attempted to connect with Bluetooth; I didn't
bother to try Bluetooth, only USB. I only played with it briefly. The
one cautionary message I received was that mentioned on the
andrew.harrison.org page about not being authenticated. He says this
means he's not a mobile phone carrier. That sounded plausible ;)

An ethernet connection was established. I did have to renew the DHCP
lease for it to work and quit tethering via SettingsGeneralNetwork
again. There may be another, more obvious way of removing the
'Internet Tethering bar from the phone's screen …
And, of course I previously had to disable the automatic syncing in
the iTunes preferences!

I tried this one, hoping it might make Bluetooth work. However, it

tried switching off and switching on again, plus restoring the
original config file I used.

The other solution referred to on that page:

Is very simple, selecting the file appropriate for Telstra,
dowloading by email, clicking to install -

So easy; and it works

Re: Telstra NextG tethering does work already

2009-06-18 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi Peter, I did actually eventually get it set up by briefly turning
on data roaming, then setting it up, then when I turned off data
roaming, it stayed on.

I haven't found that syncing with iTunes switches it off - so far.

cheers, Susan.
