Re: iPhone Rubbish Bin

2018-12-30 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Peter, Tim & Tony,
I’m confused by Tony’s original comments & replies???

Recovering deleted notes from Recently Deleted
Remember that the Notes app has a Recently Deleted folder. The keyword here
being “recently,” as the Notes app will only keep these notes for 30 days.
After 30 days have passed, it will permanently delete them.

Open the Notes app, and tap Recently Deleted from the account that you want to
recover.
Tap Edit in the upper-right corner.
Select the notes you want to recover.
Tap Move To in the lower-left corner.
Select the folder that you want to move the note to.
Kind regards,
Ronni

True enough, but Tony’s wife's notes were duplicated on her iPad, indicating
that iCloud must have been involved, unless the notes were duplicated manually,
which I think is unlikely. Altogether a difficult scenario to understand from a
remote standpoint.

Peter I appreciate using iCloud but if a Note is deleted from one device, then
it is deleted on all, amplifying the problem

OK, I think that clears up the point of confusion. The Bin icon in Notes does
not open a deleted files repository as it does in the Finder on the Mac. It
simply deleted WHATEVER IS CURRENTLY SELECTED. In your wife’s case that would
have been the latest note she had just created/edited. It’s the legacy of not
having a “Desktop” in iOS. Anyway, your experience does point out the benefit
of having iCloud configured across your devices.

Thank you Peter, sorry that I wasn’t clear enough. Lynette was working in Notes
and information that she had put into Notes had disappeared, without thinking I
suggested opening the rubbish to check on it’s contents, as soon as Lynette hit
the Bin icon everything was deleted.
The outcome is that Lynette had the same Notes duplicated on her iPad, so all
good. A lesson learnt, ask the question, do a search BEFORE touching the Bin!!!

Thank you Peter

Not sure what’s happened here. There is no “bin” on an iPhone, akin to the
Trash can on Mac or the “Recycle Bin” on Windows, so I’m not sure what Bin it
was that she hit. When you delete files on an iPhone they get deleted, but
that’s usually by tapping a specific “Delete” button within an App, so I’m not
at all sure how your wife manage to put her Notes “into the Bin”. There are 3rd
party apps which can deal with deleted files recovery, but from your
description I can really offer any constructive advice because I can’t
visualise what might have happened.

Your first and best resource is your most recent iPhone backup, but if that
hasn’t been done in a while then you’ll lose any recent data when you try to
restore from the backup. Sorry I can’t be of more help here.

Hi Guy’s

Just a query, with fingers crossed. My Wife accidentally put her “Notes” into
the ‘Bin’, I suggested that she open the Bin to see what was in there and
remove what she wanted, as soon as she hit the Bin everything was deleted,
so, is it at all possible to retrieve the rubbish or has it all gone
forever??

Thanks all

Kind Regards
