Hi Severin,

Turn 'Data Roaming' OFF
You only need ‘Data Roaming’ when you are travelling overseas, you don’t want
it turned ON in Australia.
Turn OFF 'Data Roaming' on iPhone

Press Settings.
Press Mobile.
I turn Mobile Data OFF when I’m connected to Wi-Fi Networks (To restrict all
data to Wi-Fi - so I’m not using any of my Telstra Mobile Data limit )
I always have Data Roaming OFF (as it not required)

Press the indicator next to "Data Roaming" to turn the function ON or OFF….
turn it OFF.
Press the Home key to return to the home screen.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Severin,

Are you using iOS 9.1?

Monitor Cellular Data Usage
In Settings > Mobile, under Use Mobile Data For, iOS lists every app that has
used cellular data, along with a tally of how much data it has used since you
last tapped the Reset Statistics button at the bottom of the screen.

Disable Cellular Data by App
iOS gives you ultimate control over whether an app is allowed to transfer data
over a cellular connection.
Tap Settings > Mobile, and under Use Mobile Data For, turn off the switch for
any app that you don’t want using cellular data, perhaps because it chews data
in the background. If you disable cellular data for an app, it won’t be able to
use cellular data for any purpose.

Stop Automatic Downloads
When you buy an app, ebook, or music from Apple, it downloads to your device
automatically. It can also automatically download to all your devices, so long
as they are signed in with the same Apple ID. For example, if you bought an
ebook from Apple’s iBooks Store on your iPad, it may have downloaded
automatically to your iPhone. Although this feature is convenient, it can eat
data quickly.

To disable automatic downloads—and turn off automatic app updates—toggle the
appropriate switch in Settings > iTunes & App Stores.

Disable Cellular Data for Automatic Downloads
What if you want to enable automatic downloads, but you don’t want them to
happen over your cellular data connection? Go to Settings > App and iTunes
Stores, and turn off Use Mobile Data.
With this option disabled, items for which you’ve turned on automatic downloads
(music, apps, books, or app updates) will download only over Wi-Fi.

Stop Background App Refresh
Introduced in iOS 7, Background App Refresh keeps certain apps updated even
when they’re in the background. While this feature keeps app content fresh and
saves you from waiting for data to load when you launch an app, it can also eat
data without you realising.
You can disable Background App Refresh entirely, or on a per-app basis, in
Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

Limit iCloud Data Usage
Some iCloud services (shown in Settings > iCloud, if the device is signed in to
an iCloud account) can use a lot of data, including Photos, Safari, News, and
Backup (backups happen over Wi- Fi only). Consider disabling these services if
you don’t use them.

If you use iCloud Drive - (NOTE: I don’t use iCloud Drive)
If you’re having trouble staying under a data cap, disable Use Cellular Data at
the bottom of Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive. If cellular data is off, your
iCloud Drive documents will sync next time the device has a Wi-Fi connection.

Turn Down the Music
The Music app can consume an overwhelming amount of data, especially if you use
Apple Music, iCloud Music Library, iTunes Match, or listen to online radio.

Tap Settings > Music to find two options for controlling Music’s cellular
bandwidth usage:
• Turning off Use Cellular Data will not only eliminate the app’s mobile data
usage, but also leave you without downloadable tunes in the Music app while
you’re out and about.
• If you keep Use Cellular Data on, you can turn off High Quality on Cellular
to lesson the impact on your data cap.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: iPhone problems !!

2009-05-20 Thread Pontifex Family
 Hi folks,

I am interested to know if anyone else has had iPhone problems ?

I got my iPhone 3G early January.
In early April I could not hear anything when receiving or making calls.
Took it to Telstra shop, they submitted for repairs and it was
 replaced with a new one.

2 weeks ago the new one started playing up.
Sometimes the touch screen simply did not respond.
Most of the time the screen went blank as I received a call or as I
 made a call.
Consequently I could not use hands free or even hang up after the call.
Each time I had to turn off the phone and restart.

Took it back to Telstra shop and they sent it in for repairs.
Got it back last Thursday and by Saturday it was doing the same again.
I will take it back once again tomorrow.

I am getting pretty fed up with it.
They tell me at the Telstra shop that this is very unusual.
Almost all the iPhones they get back have been dropped or damaged in
 some way.
Very rarely do they present wth faults.

Am I just very unlucky or do they fault more than I am being told ?

In the early days of the iphone there was a particular case that caused a

No Richard ... no case at all.
Anyway it's back with the repairer again now.
So I will wait and see what transpires when it is returned this time.

I was number 34 in line on the day they were released. I have mine in
a DLO case, and haven't had a problem with it since - once Telstra
could sort out the account. They hadn't counted on the number of
people who wanted one, and their computer systems melted down.

My son has an iPhone too. He had a fault with his where the earphone
socket didn't register sometimes. I think it was because it was in
his pocket all the time, and the humidity caused the problem. He
didn't have it in a case at the time. It was replaced, and he keeps
the new one in a case, and it's been going fine ever since.

Regards,
Paul.

I don't play golf. Personally, I think there's something
psychologically wrong with any game in which the person who gets to
hit the ball the most is the loser.

Re: iPhone problems !!

2009-05-18 Thread Eugene

Hi Stephen,

as Peter said I too have had my iPhone for about the same period of
time with no problems what-so-ever. (Oh I tell a lie, I did have the
headphones replaced under warranty and I did have had to restore from
backup the phone once but it was so easy and flawless I almost forgot
about that one - I think it was after a software update)

The OS is robust and typical of the Apple product it always works.

Apple is a big company and an easy target and subject to the 'tall
poppy syndrome', if there were major flaws in its products it would be
shot down in flames. There has been few complaints on the net
regarding the build quality of the product. About the worse I have
heard about was some people complaining about light leaking through
the joints along the sides.

To answer you last question - yes I think you have been unlucky. Hope
you resolve your issues.

  Regards,
  Eugene

Almost all the iPhones they get back have been dropped or damaged in
some way.

Very rarely do they present wth faults.

Am I just very unlucky or do they fault more than I am being told ?

2009-02-28 Thread Adam Lippiatt

Hi all

Ronni sorted me out.

It was all in the case. My mother got rid of hers too and her
intermittent problems disappeared as well. We both use cases
specifically designed for 3G iPhones. So, *don't* buy an iSkin Revo.

Thanks all for your comments.

iPhone Problems - Unresponsive Screen During and Immediately After Calls
Adam Lippiatt
Thu, 26 Feb 2009 13:12:14 -0800

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has experienced their iPhone screen locking
up (staying black) during or immediately after calls? As you can
imagine, it can be quite frustrating. Software has been restored after
a return to the provider (guy I dropped it off to said 'ah, the
proximity sensor has failed' - service people could not replicate
the problem, also noting 'what is this proximity sensor customer is
talking about'). I will take it back again today, but I was
justwondering if anyone else had come across this problem (googled,
seen reports of some screen problems, but this is a bit different as
far as I can tell).

Thanks

Adam

Hello Adam,

Are you using a case that is blocking the proximity sensor?
If you are using a case, remove the case to see if the same occurs
without the case.

If the same does not occur without using the case, you need to
consider using a different case that is specifically designed to not
block the iPhone's proximity sensor.

Cheers,
Ronni

proximity sensor is to recognize if the phone is upright - laying
flat on table, hor or vert position, basically it can see if you
hold in which way you hold the phone.

2009-02-27 Thread Ronda Brown

Hello People,

The proximity sensor prevents you from accidentally interacting with
the screen while the iPhone is pressed against your ear, it switches
off the display at about 0.75-inches away; the screen switches back on
after you pull away about an inch.

I had sent an email to Adam Lippiatt off list as I was no longer
subscribed to WAMUG Mailing List.

I asked him:

Are you using a case that may be partially blocking or blocking the
iPhone's proximity sensor?

If you are using a case, remove the case to see if the same occurs
without the case.

If the same does not occur without using the case, you need to
consider using a different case that is specifically designed to not
block the iPhone's proximity sensor.

Since then, Adam has replied to my email saying that yes, he is using
a case and that he had taken the case off the iPhone when he left it
at the service people they could not replicate the problem.
He will now check whether it is his case causing the problem and let
us know.

Cheers,
Ronni

This has happened a couple if times, but not to any degree that has
caused major problems. The first time I fixed it with a simple Reset.
The other times have just fixed themselves in a few minutes.

When mine gets really hot after a long call the screen becomes
unresponsive i.e I can't answer calls or unlock the screen. Really
really annoying!
