postage stamp letter

2006-12-29 Thread Debbie Caruso
Hi Harriett,
I will be sending out my letter tomorrow...It's funny that this subject came
up because this year when I sent out my Christmas cards I asked if they were
ever going to get a Mayberry stamp, but he didn't tell me how I go about it.
Thank you.
Debbie

stamps

2006-12-29 Thread CTMIDWAY58
As to postage stamps commemorating Mayberry stars, the rule has just been
changed. It used to be someone had to be dead 10 years before being considered
for a stamp, but from what I hear it has been lowered to 5 years. Perhaps
there could be one for Aunt Bea, Floyd, Otis, Howard, Ben Weaver, and others,
but too soon for Barney and Ernest T.
Everyone have a Happy New Year, or as Joe E. Brown said in the old movie
Show Boat.
HAP...
PEEE NEW YEAR!!!

Mayberry weather

2006-12-29 Thread weenie man
I was watching a show yesterday and Andy and Floyd were sitting outside
talking. Floyd commented that is was 92 degrees. Since I had my thinking
bucket on at that moment it occured to me that I never have seen Andy or
Barney in short sleeved uniform shirts. If it was 92, could he not have put
on a short sleeve officer's shirt? Were they not made then?

I know the show was not made in "Mayberry", but on some of the shows, you
can plainly tell that is was hot outside. In the show were the escaped con
is out to get Barney, you can see the sweat through the policemen's
clothing...and all in long sleeves.

It is rather difficult, though, and unfortunately the many efforts to get a
stamp in honor of Jack Benny, for instance, have yet to pay off. But good luck
and more power to you.

One thing to think about is what to put on the stamp. Normally, no person
can be put on a stamp in America unless the person has been dead for 10 years
(exception: US Presidents, and then it's a year, then their next birthday, like
it was with Reagan and will be with Ford). So that rules out Don Knotts (or
Barney; there's no way they'd show a character who looked nothing like the
actor) until 2016 but still allows the possibility of, say, Floyd. When the
Postal Service had its "Celebrate the Century" series, "Star Trek" was
represented
with a shot of the Enterprise; "All in the Family" was represented by a shot
of Archie's and Edith's chairs, and "Seinfeld" was represented with a shot of
Jerry's apartment, no people in sight in any of those three.

TAGS Sightings in It's a Wonderful Life

2006-12-29 Thread Dave Lambert
Hi gang,

I've been working on my Trained Noticer wings. We had our annual viewing of
It's a Wonderful Life (IAWL) the other day. I noticed more TAGS sightings than
I'd previously remembered. There has been a number of past posts with several
of the connections below but I couldn't recall anyone posting a complete and
definitive list. Please provide corrections and additions if you'd care to. I
didn't even include the non-direct links like Mayberry RFD but still came up
with a surprisingly long list. Google and imbd.com are wonderful things...

Even though I don't often post to the list, I sure do enjoy reading all of your
comments and observations. Happy New Year to all.

New Year's in Mayberry

2006-12-29 Thread Dan Goodwin
Since we had a Christmas episode, I was wondering why we didn't have a New
Year's episode. After puzzling about that for a while, I figured I would
just go ahead and write a New Year's script.

.so far, I've got about 35 seconds of film. Since
everybody in Mayberry goes to be at 10:30, it's pretty quiet around
midnight

.oh, I know, I'll have the Fun Girls drive down main street
and honk their horn.up to 43 seconds.

.since fireworks are illegal under county ordinance, Gilley
Walker could pick up some bottle rockets out at that stand on route 60
and...

Maybe I've figured out why we don't have a New Year's episode.

another mayberry moment

2006-12-29 Thread CAPT .
And this smacks of who and what kind of ppl we are.

This last summer Tom Brokaw was in town stopping on his trip to Cody WYO

Tom lost his wallet containig $319 and one of our local residents found it
with money intact
and turned it into the sheriff's office

They in turn contacted Mr. Brokaw and therefore returned his wallet and
money to him.

Mr. Brokaw called our SO and thanked them and the person finding the wallet.

Sure made me feel good indeed.

We got real good people here.

I am retired, disabled, and the best way I could give back was join our
County search and rescxue team

I would encourage all Mayberrians tyo do the same thing if able.

I am on Hot Springs County Search and Rescue.

wonderful organization and that is best suited to my abilities.
