I heard tell some fella brought his wife in Oregon back some pickles he said he got in N. Carolina. She said she didn't much care for them made him throw them away said they tasted real awful, almost like kerosene. I watched part of a delightful film this afternoon titled Glory, about horse racing. Howard McNear's predecessor appeared as an investor in the title horse and little Margaret O'Brien, all grown up, was the star. Church Bell
We got to hear the church bell in Man in a Hurry. Mr. Tucker was walking into town when the sounding bell lead him to the church and to Andy. Did we ever hear the bell any other times? My memories of ringing the bell in my home church are clear. The custodian was charged with ringing the bell. The bell rope actually hung down through a home in the ceiling of the vestibule. All us boys loved to ring the bell so almost every Sunday, he'd let one of us ring. It was just fun to have that power over that big bell, but the biggest thrill of all was when it was time to stop the bell. iI try to notice little trivial trivalities and inconsistantcies, but I usually get caught up in the show and miss them. However, I was watching the color episode where Howard caught Ol' Sam. Goober and Floyd were looking over their fishing tackle and Goober was complaining about Floyd's cousin who'd fished with them and was loud and splashy, which scared the fish. Floyd said it wasn't his cousin, but his wife's cousin and she made him take him along. Since this was after the Gay Deceiver episode, I figure they must have been talking about a long past event or Floyd got another wife some time afterward./i bIn Quiet Sam, Floyd mentioned his wife, Melba. Then later in Floyd, the Gay Deceiver, didn't he mention being a widower? I assume he was widowed, but no one made a big moulage about it.
