Some cable companies losing TV Land

2008-12-31 Thread Harriet Browder

I've called my cable company (Bright House) regarding pulling TV Land, Comedy
Channel, VH1, etc. (total of 18 channels) as of midnight tonight. The recording
says that Viacom has tripled their rates to the cable companies. They are
negotiating but it looks very likely that Viacom will win which means it's a
very good thing that I have my TAGS DVDs. I can live without the other channels
but NOT TV Land! That's sacred grounds, buddy and how I vote is my business!
Now, where is that Dish company brochure.

By the way, the phone number that's scrolling across the screen for Bright
House customers is a non working number. Those Viacom folks must be week kneed,
chicken livered, yellow streaked, turncoats!

Stamps

2008-12-31 Thread m white
TAGS fans,

Trying to figure out who and why and how the Post Office decides who to honor
with stamps can be an interesting (and maddening) study. For instance, fans of
Louis L'Amour (at his death in 1989 he was the best-selling author in American
history, don't know if he's been passed) have been petitioning for a stamp
honoring him for years. Still nothing.

And as for the rule about a person being dead, they've been known to stretch
that, too. Remember the Star Wars stamps a couple years ago that had images of
Harrison Ford and Mark Hammill? Both are still living. The P.O.'s excuse was
that the paintings were of "fictional characters", yet they went out of their
way to make them look like the real-life actors.

If we really want TAGS stamps, we can always print our own. You can buy a
program from the Post Office that allows you to put your own images--even your
own face--on stamps and print them on your home PC. James Arness sells "Matt
Dillon" stamps on his web site using a program like this.

Not meaning to throw any cold water. If/when the P.O. offers TAGS stamps, I'll
be first in line at our local branch!

Miracle Salve

2008-12-31 Thread hyperauntjan1
The closest thing I've used to Miracle Salve is Bag Balm - sounds similar to
your product, Ken. My mother used it for years and my Dad used to say. " Well,
we're going to the feed store to get your mother's cosmetics"!

I never tested it to see if it cured the mange

Wonder if it would help to prevent your feet from falling asleep?

Re: more on the stamps

2008-12-31 Thread Dixonhayes

In a message dated 12/31/2008 11:01:56 A.M. Central Standard Time,
wbmutbb-requ...@wbmutbb.com writes:

If it was a fictional show with fictional characters, it could be
different,
but since the name carries Andy's name, no stamp!!

Actually, it's only Andy's image that can't be used (until ten years after
his death), his name is another matter. When the Postal Service did the
"Celebrate the Century" series, the '90s was represented partly by the TV show
"Seinfeld." Since Jerry was and still very much is with us, they didn't show
him, but they showed his last name as the show's title against the backdrop of
his apartment, as seen on his show. A stamp devoted to "The Andy Griffith
Show" would still be doable, they just wouldn't be able to show Andy or Opie
or
(for another seven years) Barney. They would be able to show Aunt Bee,
Floyd, or a generic shot of the town square and the courthouse. But
personally,
I'd prefer to see Andy on a stamp honoring his show and hopefully that won't
happen anytime soon for obvious reasons.

TAGS stamp

2008-12-31 Thread jlj9675
I write the Postmaster General every year asking for a TAGS-related postage
stamp, to no avail. Although everyone seems to be familiar with Mayberry
and a fan to some degree, it's hard to get them interested in tributes.
Look at the Kennedy Center Honors! You'd think it'd be limited to Americans
at least. They missed out on honoring Don Knotts and I'm afraid they will
miss the boat with Andy too. I write them every year but I'll keep on
trying!
