Two more NC towns mentioned on TAGS - Asheville and Jacksonville.  Both these
towns were mentioned on the reunion episode.  I don't remember in what context
Asheville was mentioned, but Thelma Lou sent a telegram all the way from
Jacksonville to say she was coming to the reunion.

Actual towns

2009-08-27 Thread castone59
Several actual towns in NC were mentioned on the show.
Bannertown, just south of Mt. Airy.
Siler City.
Mt Pilot, actually Pilot Mtn
Raleigh
Greensboro
Wilmington
Can any of you trained noticers detect any more ?

Didn't Aunt Bee say she once lived in Morgantown, WV? There were
other actual places mentioned too, but they are far away. You don't speak
a word of South American.

If you won't do it for me, at least do it for Robie Miller. I don't even
know Robie Miller!

Trivia

2009-08-27 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I just read an interesting bit of Ron Howard Trivia.

When he was on Happy Days there is a scene where his parents
Howard and Marion come out of the Movie Music Man and talk about how
the little boy Winthrop and how he looks a lot like Richie. They were
both Ron Howard, of course.

Speaking of trivia..who besides Mr. Griffith/Taylor used their own first
name on the series? So far I can come up with one background actor.

This is just an observation. In the Seth Taylor Statue episode, Seth
Taylor is referred to as your Great great Grandfather to both Aunt Bee
and Andy. Wouldn't they be a generation apart? So maybe he was just
Aunt Bee's Great..and Andy's Great Great something to ponder.

Re: Actual towns

2009-08-27 Thread Hughes, Clyde L. (HSC)
It's interesting how some of the towns mentioned on TAGS take on big city or
at least big town status, even if the real towns probably aren't quite that
way. To me, Mt. Pilot seemed at least as big as Mayberry, and Siler City
seemed like..well, a city. Now Raleigh was the big time...big!
Wasn't there a Saverton mentioned when Aunt Bea(e) had to go there once to take
care of someone? It seems like there's a Saverton in Missouri, but I'm not
sure about NC.

...Triplett (Andy went to see Stuart Simmons in Triplett)...

Not only is Triplett a real NC place, but Stewart Simmons is/was a real person
there. The local fire department is named after him. I want to say he was in
the ham business (but that's from a frequently faulty memory).

I just finished watching 'North To Alaska' starring John Wayne. Guess who I
saw giving Sam McCord(John Wayne) a toast. Our very own Mayberrian Henry
Bennett(John Qualen). It was only a thirty seconds shot and he didn't have a
name but it was our beloved Henry. God bless him.
I would also like to thank Scott Dickson who manages the?Mayberry Town Hall
site for giving me the opportunity to share some thoughts there. You can read
my blog 'THE DAYS OF MAYBERRY' at http//mayberrytownhall.ning.com.

I did not get to see that scene with Henry Bennett on North to Alaska, so I was
wondering, after he gave John Wayne a toast, did John Wayne get up and say Fly
away buzzard, fly away crow, way down south where the winds don't blow?

Orville Hendricks - Selling eggs and butter for many a year now. Martha is
always saying something about an old buzzard to me, but I don't hear too good
without my hearing aids.

TAGS characters in other shows

2009-08-27 Thread Harriet Browder

'North To Alaska'

One of the few comedies John Wayne madegreat movie. And I just watched an
old Maverick with four of our Mayberry friends - Will Wright (Old Ben Weaver),
Buddy Ebsen (Hobo Dave Browne, with an e), Peggy McCay (Sharon DeSpain, kissy,
kissy), and Mr. Carter (Chubby Johnson - I think he was missing more teeth in
this earlier show than in TAGS). I too enjoy spotting TAGS links. If you're
not careful it can turn you into a trained noticer.
