2010-03-30 Thread dewey lamb

In several episodes,we have seen quite a few males in Floyd's barber shop.

Who is the first female to be seen in this hallowed haunt in Mayberry?

RE: Juanita

2010-03-30 Thread Good, Don
Recently, Johnny Maestro passed. He was a great Doo Wop singer.Back in 1957 he
had a hit song with the Crests. The name of the song was My Juanita. As best
as I can recall, his version differs quite a bit from Barney's.

Barney suggested they go wax the steps at the nursing home. That one makes
me laugh, although I don't know why. I work in a nursing home.

Re: one more cartoon voice

2010-03-30 Thread Dixonhayes
I said I was through compiling the many, many TAGS alumni who did at least
one cartoon voice in their time, but that's before I left out quite
possibly the most obvious one: Winnie the Pooh himself, Sterling Holloway! In
fact the Winnie the Pooh cartoons were a virtual Mayberry reunion with all
the alumni recording voices.

Real Voice or Lip Synching?

2010-03-30 Thread GARY WEDEMEYER
I'm not sure about Joanna Moore's singing (sounds like her though)but Elinor
Donahue has told the story about her singing experience on the show. When she
learned there would be singing in the episode she was very nervous. She'd never
sung on camera before. She and Andy went into the studio where she told Andy
that she was a little nervous. To put her at ease Andy suggested that they both
sit on the floor and reherse. After they had practiced for a while she told
Andy she thought that she was ready. Andy told her that they had been recording
the whole time and they had what they needed. WHat a great testiment to how
Andy took the pains to make her comfortable. Attaboy Andy!!

First Female in the Barbershop

2010-03-30 Thread Ken Anderson
I would think the first female to enter Floyd's Barber Shop would be Ellie
Walker in Episode 19 Mayberry on Record. I believe she comes in and
listens to Andy and the boys playing their instruments. If there was
someone before this I certainly can't recall.

One small step for Miss Ellie and one giant step for all women of
Mayberry.

Cartoon Voices

2010-03-30 Thread Stephen Gaston
Ron Howard played the voice of the character Tom Colonic in the Fareley
brothers' movie Osmosis Jones. It is a part live action and part animation
film, so I guess that counts because he was only in the animatied portions.
I use this film in my anatomy physiology classes to illustrate how the
immune system works.

Barney once told Andy that he should go on television so that way at least
he could turn him off.

One I think I remember.and I might get the words wrongyou should go
over to the hospital and take the screws out of the wheelchairs.

Mayberry Presentation

2010-03-30 Thread Ken Anderson
I did my Mayberry presentation at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire
Senior America Day this afternoon. I had an enthusiastic group of over 60
seniors attend. Every single one of them raised a hand when I asked if they
watched and enjoyed TAGS over the years. That's the kind of group I love
having for an audience. I made a commitment with a teacher in the audience to
do a presentation for their summer school session in June. It will be fun to
do one with kids. I uploaded several video clips of my presentation to my face
book page so if you would like to see what I do feel free to visit my page and
check them out. Each clip is only a few minutes. In one of them I pay tribute
to our good friend David Browning for being the person who gave me my uniform.

it's in the genes

2010-03-30 Thread David Switzer

To show that watching TAGS is generational, it's one of the few shows that my
80 year Mom will watch and although my 80 year old Dad won't watch TV at all
anymore he still likes to talk about Barney (no, not the big purple guy)  and
then I am a huge fan (of course, or I wouldn't be on here now) and my son was
watching a 1946 Bing Crosby movie today called Blue Skies and he hollered
out, There's Ben Weaver!  Folks, we've got to keep this Circle of Mayberry
Life going and not let it die out

TAGS Voices in Flintstones Episodes

2010-03-30 Thread Nick and Franca Alfano
Howard Morris and Hal Smith voiced numerous characters on The Flintstones.

Some of Howard's voices were the patriarch of the Hatrocks, Anne Margaret's
agent, the sponsor for Anne's show at the Bedrock Bowl, the director in the
Larry Lava episode and the banker when Fred and Wilma keep taking out and
returning the $80. There are more.

Hal Smith did the voice of the owner of the bus company where Fred drove (A.A.
Carborundum) the clerk in the court house when Betty and Barney adopted Bam
Bam, the host of Peek a Boo Camera, the host of The Prize is Price and one of
Fred's golfing buddies. Again there are more.

And yesAlan Melvin..the service station owner where Fred and Barney are
stuck to the bowling ball, the crook where Betty is inadvertently passing the
phoney bills for the counterfeiters, one of the Water Buffalo members (the Way
Out episode) and one of the police officers in the same episode.

Bernard Fox: Pebbles and Bam Bam's manager when they were singing stars. His
character was Eppy Brianstone which was a parody of long time Beatles manager
Brian Epstein.

These guys were just so prolific and versatile.

Emmy Schmaltz

2010-03-30 Thread DAVID QUINN

In the episode featuring Steve Quincy called One Punch Opie, Barney tells
Andy to put on a dress and get into the comic strips and be another Emmy
Schmaltz. Emmy Schmaltz was featured in the comic strip Moon Mullins. I think
she was Moon's landlady, kinda like Mrs. Mendlebright. Moon Mullins was also
mentioned by Wally in the episode Man In A Hurry.

Orville Hendricks - Still selling butter and eggs. My landlady is Martha. No
hotplates, no 75 watt bulbs, no sleeping with the lights on, no nothing.

Another that I know I will get the quote wrong is why don't you put on a
dress and be a regular Emma Smaltz(???).
 Not sure about the name.

prize

2010-03-30 Thread Teresa

Well I did not win a refrigerator, but I won a consolation prize in a
publisher's clearinghouse sweepstakes and it is a set of stainless steel pots
and pans with lifetime guarantee. I trust that I will not have to pay any taxes
on it and I will not invite anyone over to see it maybe. ha ha I am going
to put out pots and plant sweet william seeds in them for spring if it stays
nice.
