Maple Street

2010-05-20 Thread John O. Dalke

I was a little disappointed that anyone would answer The Simpsons because
from what very little I have seen of this show (less than a full show), the
standards (children disrespecting their parents, parents drinking to excess)
are just not up to The Andy Griffith Show or Father Knows Best.

I apologize for disappointing you.  I was merely hazarding a guess.  Please
note that this group includes a viariety of people with a wide range of likes
and dislikes.  I have my own opinions on a variety of topics outside of this
group, but I do not post them here because someone else may feel differently
than I do.

Re: jail tour

2010-05-20 Thread daltonarick
Although I have seen floor plans from Mayberry books, and they say it outside
next to the entrance for upstairs. I also thought that there we're toilets in
the cells out of site. I also figure Andy and Barney' was in the backroom, out
of. Site. Back then toilets were not shown on TV. It has only been within the
last 30 or so. Years we have seen toilets and only recently have we seen people
on them using them. (Ie two and a half men).
As for the haunted house I love the line too I guess that makes you sheriff
but there were a lot of good lines and episodes, such as Ernest T. Tap dancing
to multiply.

Orville,
Also, when Father Knows Best was on the radio, it was known as Father Knows
Best? with a question mark. I guess it was in tune with the idea of the
bumbling dad character which, thankfully, went away with My Three Sons, the
televised Father Knows Best, and, of course, The Andy Griffith Show.

Silent Fudge

2010-05-20 Thread Hughes, Clyde L. (HSC)
Here's one that maybe a trained noticer might know. I was watching Barney
and Thelma Lou, Pt! (you might need a hanky to dry off after all
of them 'f's) last night, and in the scene where Barn and Andy check doors
together, sharing a bag of store-bought fudge, Barney's mouth seems to be full
of fudge, yet he is clearly enunciating all of the words. That made me wonder
if location filming was done mute, that is, without recording the sound?
I've read that The Avengers (British show contemporary to TAGS) was filmed this
way during the b/w episodes, although American techniques may have been
different at the time, due to differing technologies, etc.
Maybe the sound could've been dubbed in later just for this particular scene
and others like it.

Has anyone read or heard about this? Paw, it's been praying on my mind.

Over and Under,
Clyde Barn

Great Lines

2010-05-20 Thread Harriet Browder

I've been compiling (would that make me a compellsion person?) great one liners
of TAGS for years. I'm up to 5 pages in Word, single spacedif anyone is
interested in receiving a copy, just email me. I'll try to fit it in whilst
taking my chickens uptown. They love going uptown, dontchaknow.

I don't get question marks but for some reason my postings always end up with
extry lines when I only have one blank line betwixt paragraphs. It'll be
interesting to see if it happens now that I mention it. That's the same idea I
had!

food for thought

2010-05-20 Thread David Switzer

I tried not to double space last time and it helped some. I too, learned to
double space after a sentence, but my boys, who went to high school in the 90's
said that they changed it. It's a hard habit to break. Good question about the
bathroom at the courthouse. Did anybody ever go to the bathroom in Mayberry?
Opie had the teeth-brushing scene, but I can't remember if they showed the
bathroom. I answered the Simpsons, but I don't watch it.  I just know a lot of
trivia.  I just double-spaced and made a single correction.  I just
double-spaced again. I need to practice more on this typing. Whatever office
Thelma Lou worked indid she double-space after sentences?

Easy on us there, Orville! The Simpsons may not be your cup of tea (and
that's okay, I fully understand if what you mentioned offends you), but
television's longest running comedy series does have a lot of fans on this
list (myself included). And Barney Fife himself popped up on the show a
couple of times, in one instance even talking through the TV to Chief Wiggum.
Ron Howard also popped up in two other episodes, both times voicing an
animated version of himself.

For the record, the Simpsons do live in Springfield, and the family dynamic
does match, but any true Simpsons fan knows they live on Evergreen
Terrace, not Maple Street.

Quiet Sam

2010-05-20 Thread Silvia Boosten
The episode Quiet Sam had a bad storm when Andy and Barney went out to his
farm.
In the episode with the gold truck Barney is wearing a wet raincoat when he
goes to the
hotel, but it didn't appear to be raining until later.  That is one of my
favorite episodes.
