Tribute Artists..more

2010-08-09 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Just to add to what Sandy and Mike have said, Tim does have a great
relationship with George Lindsey. The last time I saw Tim, he talked
about going to George's birthday party. He reported that George asked
Him How is our career going? George's heath does not allow him to do
much acting or very few appearances, as I understand.

So, not to beat this to death, but there is no rule written or unwritten
that a tribute artist's character's original actor cannot be alive. Don
Knott's enjoyed many joint appearances with David Browning before his
death. Just to add one more tidbit. While some Tribute Artists could
be basically volunteer, David Browning is a professional actor. Doing
the Mayberry Deputy (as well as other acting) is his career.

I enjoyed seeing the clip also. Thanks for sharing that.

The Untrained Voice

Ken, I thought your talk was real nice. The only thing you might add to
the intro would be. Friends Family, Fellow Citizens and Honored
Guests Or something like that

Missouri Boatride

2010-08-09 Thread Butch Ruffner
My wife, grandaughter and I had the pleasure of seeing Dean Webb and his band
Missouri Boatride Saturday evening in Kimberling City, MO..They put on a
fantastic show every other Saturday night in the mall parking lot. I think they
have three more Saturday nights planned for this summer. Check out their
website, missouriboatride.com. They did a tribute show for Mitch and played
more Dillard songs than they usually do. And in between songs talked about
Mitch. If you live close enough, it is well worth your Mayberry time to go see
them, or at the least check out their CD's. Butch in Casey

Patricia Neal, 84, A FACE IN THE CROWD costar

2010-08-09 Thread beastooge

Oscar-winning actress Patricia Neal has died, age 84. Ms. Neal costarred with
Andy Griffith in A FACE IN THE CROWD (1958), as well as with Frances Bavier in
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951).

For fans of THE WALTONS, Neal was the first actress to play Olivia Walton, in
the 1971 TV movie pilot THE HOMECOMING.

does not seem right to steal a man's character while he is still using it.

I would think that George Lindsay would take it as a compliment that somone
thinks so highly of him to impersate the character. But going by your logic,
David Browning was affronting all laws whilst Mr. Knotts was still
kickingQuit that David! No more fidgeting, no more finger pointing, no more

Andy's Address and Season 2 DVD

2010-08-09 Thread Jessica Banzhoff

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering how many times Andy's address was stated during the whole
show? There are 3 times I can remember off the top of my head-and they are all
different. In Barney's Sidecar, when Opie is using his woodburning set, he is
burning the house number right into the side of the door-I believe it was 334
or 332 maybe (he was almost done when Andy stopped him.) In Aunt Bee's
Medicine Man, Aunt Bee says her Address is 332 Maple Road. Then, in
Jailbreak Barney tells the state policeman Andy's address is 34 Elm Street.
Are there any other times? I wonder if the writers just forgot what Andy's
address was supposed to be and had to keep changing it?

Also, I noticed that on the Season 2 DVD...I think it's on disc 2 or 3-on the
menu screen, there is a picture of Andy and Warren. This seems odd to me,
because Warren didn't come around until almost the end of the show. I wonder
why they would put him on the Season 2 DVD?

Have a great day everyone,
Jessica in Hagerstown, MD

Tribute Artists

2010-08-09 Thread Ken Anderson
Someone mentioned whether or not I got paid when I do my presentations. I
usually ask for the very nominal donation of $25 and then I give that to our
food bank at our church. I also donate 100% of the price of my books to our
food pantry too. We serve between 300-400 families every week. Many times
I present for free if the groups do not have funds. Just to clarify too
that I do not consider myself to be a tribute artist in any shape or form.
I always begin my talks by saying that I am in no way pretending to be
Barney Fife nor will I try to act like him. I simply wear the uniform as a
way to make my presentations a bit more interesting and to pay tribute to
Don Knotts for the fine actor that he was. I have the highest regard and
respect for all those Mayberry tribute artists out there. What a remarkable
job they do keeping Mayberry alive and well for all of us. I enjoyed that
news clip the other day so much. Having never met any of the artists in the
flesh it is always great to be able to see clips of them.

Thank you to all of you who emailed me regarding my talk that I am going to
give at my school reunion. So many of you mentioned that Guy Doud has
influenced you as well.

Here is my Mayberry Scale of Wrongness (I like this idea...I'll probably
expand on it)

B) Negligence

D) What a dumb thing to do, don't ever call me dumb
E) Malfeasance
F) deserving of a Lawyer letter (fighting fire with fire)
G) Insufficient in your duties
H) You need to leave, and I mean Mayberry

I would call it C) Inept ..what do you think?

Andy's Address

2010-08-09 Thread Harry Brewbaker
One reason for the differences in Andy's address may have been that different
writers wrote different episodes.  They were just looking for a generic number
and street name.  There is also a fact that I have mentioned here before.
Fifty years ago when they were making TAGS, they had no idea that anyone in the
year 2010 would be analyzing it the way we do.  Don't get me wrong, I'm as bad
as anybody.

I once saw George Lindsey at a Mayberry event and during a question and answer
period he was asked what it was like at the time to know he was working on a
classic TV show.  He said to be honest, at the time we didn't know it was a
classic TV show.  He was just happy to have an acting job and get paid.

When you put things in perspective, that sounds like a great answer to me.

Goober

2010-08-09 Thread DAVID QUINN

For some reason Goober has been on my mind lately. I got to thinking today
that Goober's name was mentioned twice on Andy before he was ever shown. In
January 63 in the episode Man In A Hurry and again in October 63 in the
episode Sermon For Today. Then Goober first appeared in April 1964 in The
Fun Girls. I know that there were a lot of people mentioned on Andy who never
appeared, but does anyone know of another character on Andy whose name was
mentioned before they appeared? I mean several episodes previously, not a few
minutes previously.
Also on the subject of Goober, I was reading a trivia book that asked which
character appeared in 3 different shows using the same name. The answer was
our old friend Malcolm Merriweather. He appeared in Bewitched, Tabitha, and in
the soap opera Passions using the name Dr. Bombay. But then I got to thinking
today that George Lindsey has appeared in 4 shows using the name Goober Pyle.
He appeared in Andy, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., Mayberry RFD, and he also appeared
for one episode in The New Andy Griffith Show using the name Goober Pyle. I
guess a lot of people would count Hee Haw as well, but I do not think he used
the name Goober Pyle in that show. Everytime I saw him they refered to him as
George Lindsey. So take that Mr. Smart Alec Trivia Book.

Orville Hendricks - Peddling Butter and Eggs. My name is the answer to a
trivia question about Andy. Which character appeared the least number of times
on The Andy Griffith Show? Answer: Me (1 time, tied with about a thousand
other people).

Andy Griffith/Matlock

2010-08-09 Thread SHARON SMITH

In watching Matlock since it started airing on Hallmark, it made me curious
about how actors would come and go from that show with no explanation regarding
their character. I looked around on the internet and it appears that Andy
Griffith usually didn't get along with his co-workers. He has always seemed to
me to distance himself from all the reunion specials and various honors paid to
The Andy Griffith Show. I always wondered how he could have told Don Knotts he
was ending the show and then D.K. made other plans, then A.G. changed his mind
- what about his supposed friendship with D.K. I've wondered before why he
doesn't seem to get along with most people and wondered if anyone had any input
into that. No disrespect is intended here. I am honestly curious and don't
know much about him. Only that I love The Andy Griffith Show as well as
Matlock.
