Barney's knowledge

2011-01-14 Thread Harry Brewbaker
Holland,  Of course Barney knew all about giraffes and baked Alaska.  He
subscribed to the Learn a Month magazine that covered a new subject every
month.  He was very well read.

One of the easiest things to sell when I was younger was Krispy Kreme
doughnuts.  Our church youth group would sell them door to door on Saturday
mornings and they were an easy sell.  Everyone loves them, especially early on
a
Saturday.  I haven't seen anyone selling them door to door in many, many
years.
Anyone know why??

Mayberry pictures

2011-01-14 Thread Susan Blank
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed seeing the Mayberry '09 pictures that
Holland Shoaf posted. Seeing many of the original actors.Betty Lynn,
Elinor Donohue, the Dillard boys, Maggie Peterson, James Best and others
brought back a lot of great memories of TAGS! I plan on sharing them with
family members and friends this weekend. I've been a great fan since my
childhood, and being an elementary school teacher, I use Mayberry music in
my classroom whenever I can!
Thanks again!

RE: Thelma Lou in Little House on the Prairie

2011-01-14 Thread Hughes, Clyde L. (HSC)
That's pretty neat! I didn't realize that Betty Lynn appeared on Little
House.
It seems that she deserved more in the episode than the part at the end, but
any time she appears is newsworthy, in my book.
She's such a wonderful lady!

Door-To-Door Selling

2011-01-14 Thread hanshewstuff
Hey folks!

Harry asked about the lack of people selling stuff door-to-door. I don't know
about your neck of the woods, but people are not allowed to do that here
anymore. There were so many unsavory characters with bad intentions that they
just outlawed it.
BUT Harry, if you want to bring me some Krispy Kreme donuts (or chocolate,
coconut, or Key Lime pie), I'll gladly give you a couple dollars!

Roy

2011-01-14 Thread Dan Goodwin
Goober's friend Roy, finally did make good, but not in the service station
business. His real name is rather unforgettable because of is rather
unusual: Noam Pitlik.

Besides his extensive acting career, Noam was a highly respected director of
TV comedies. He won an Emmy in 1979 for Barney Miller and was nominated for
6 more along the way.

Re: Ron Howard on The Daily Show

2011-01-14 Thread Dixonhayes
Thursday night's Daily Show featured a nice interview with Ron Howard
talking about his latest movie, The Dilemma. He actually discussed The
Andy Griffith Show a lot, telling that often repeated story about how he came
up with ideas all the time and they got ignored until one was used in the
second episode of season 2 (Barney's Replacement), and Andy told him it
was the first one you had that was any...good!

BTW I remember Grit, the newspaper, and I actually had a guy next door to
me sell them. I always bought one because there was a cartoon feature in
each issue that profiled a different old time radio show.

Weddings in Mayberry

2011-01-14 Thread Ken Anderson
I just watched the Mayberry RFD episode where Andy and Helen were married.
It reminded me a lot of my wedding back in 1970. Weddings were so
different. Not the elaborate debt educing events that they now are. We had
a simple candlelight ceremony in my wife's home church followed by a quiet
intimate reception in the church basement. Like the new Taylors, we too only
had fruit punch to drink. My wife's mother made Linda's wedding gown and
all the bridesmaid's dresses. Our entire wedding cost around $500 and our
honeymoon was a five day camping trip to Canada. My mother-in-law had a
dinner at the farm the night of the rehearsal for all my family who were
coming to the wedding. Our photo album contains ten small black and white
photos that were taken by a photographer. The best part of the entire
wedding is that my wife and I are still happily married after almost 42
years. This all goes to prove one thing. If you want a happy marriage, you
don't have to go to Mount Pilot. You also do not have to spend a lot of
money either. I should say too, that next year is our 42nd anniversary and
I plan to take my wife to Ireland. Then I plan to go back to get her on our
50th.
