another Otis--sort of

2011-04-04 Thread jgrit1
I was watching Celebrity Apprentice last night. The Celebrities had to create
a work of Art to auction off for charity. Actor Gary Busey is on there, and he
is kind of scatter-brained. (it might be due to a head injury). Anyway for
his work or art, he painted a Water Buffalo. It looked for all the world like
Otis's Mosaic of a Cow. Just a simple animal in from of green grass and a blue
sky. Someone actually paid $5000 for it..but it was basically a donation.
Maybe Otis's cow should have been auctioned off for AA??

Thanks for all the dialog about our favorite show, and its stars! Its been
said before but this Digest is often the highlight of my day...an oasis of
small town pleasure in the midst of the jungle of a business world out there.

Steve Martin interview

2011-04-04 Thread Jeff Koontz
Comedian/Actor/Writer/Banjo picker/Wild and Crazy Guy Steve Martin has some
kind
words to say about The Dillards and in particular Doug Dillard in his interview
with Bob Edwards. You can download/listen to the podcast on iTunes (Bob Edwards
Weekend - 4/1/11 eps) now and eventually on his website
(http://www.bobedwardsradio.com/bob-edwards-weekend/).

The band he plays with is the Steep Canyon Rangers, who I know are big TAGS
fans.

Howard McNear and the Taylor home

2011-04-04 Thread Richard Rehm
I saw Howard McNear on The Leave Leave It To Beaver show playing,of all
things,a barber and giving Wally his first
shave at the request of Ward Cleaver. He also played a real estate agent on The
Ozzie And Harriet Show. Can anyone tell me why the Taylors had
a
room for Gomer and Frank Meyers to stay in But when uncle Ollie and aunt Nora
visited with Rodger and Bruce, they all had to double up and when Malcom Tucker
decided to stay overnight Opie had to "Adventure Sleep" on the ironing board?

Re: Thelma Lou & Barney

2011-04-04 Thread Susan Blank
The farmer who tried to steal Thelma Lou was Big Jeff Pruitt. And how about
Edgar Coleman, the fellow from church who spent an evening gluing hymnbook
covers with her? What about her and Edgar Coleman?
That's all I can think of right now. Anyone else?

Lum and Abner, Pine Ridge

2011-04-04 Thread Timothy-Lindsey Ralston
Alan had mentioned Pine Ridge here and on his podcast.  I live in Arkansas
which
is where Lum and Abner -  both the characters of the show and the men who
played
them where from.

I enjoy listening to Lum and Abner, not quite as much as I like watching Andy
of
course.  I work on a computer and listen to the show as I work.  It is a great
show to listen to on roadtrips too!

Todays Pine Ridge Arkansas used to be Waters Arkansas.  After the show made the
town famous, Waters Arkansas changed it's name to Pine Ridge which was a
fictitious name that Lum and Abner had used instead of the towns real name.

The show was based on the town and people of Waters Arkansas.  Chester Lauck's
(Lum's) father owned a general store in Waters like the one depicted in the
show.  There is now a museum about the Lum and Abner show in Pine Ridge
Arkansas.

Pine Ridge Arkansas is East of Mena  between Mena and Oden.

Thelma Lou and Barney

2011-04-04 Thread Timothy-Lindsey Ralston
We were thinking the other day of how many times someone tried to "steal"
Thelma
Lou from Barney.
We thought of threeGomer, Opie, and that farmer we can't remember the name
of. Can you think of anymore?
