Seeing the new moon over your right shoulder is lucky.

Bonus Omen

If owls hoot at night, expect fair weather.

Mayberry Days

2011-09-30 Thread Mike Haviland
I just want to say a great big thank you to Mt. Airy (Mayberry), the surry arts
council, the stars of the show,  the character imposters Barney, Otis, Floyd,
Goober,  Howard , etc, the shops especially Debbie and Darrell at Mayberry on
main,  and all the people who attended, for another great vacation. It was such
a trill to win the trivia contest. I feel like Aunt Bee after she was flying
high alone, or Goober after eating 57 pancakes. In fact I really felt like I
ate 57 pancakes A special thanks go to Dr.  Dennis Beal (Mr Schump) and Pat
Bullins for all the encouragement they have shown to me. Thanks again Mayberry
see ya next year. Mike The Scamp Haviland

Loaded Goat Music

2011-09-30 Thread Hughes, Clyde L. (HSC)
Hi Gang,
In listening to the Bible Study (Loaded Goat), I remembered a certain bit of
music that occurs (maybe more than this one time) when Jimmy (the goat) is
wandering around town.
Initially, I thought it was Prokofiev (part of the Lieutenant Kije Suite
(Kije's Wedding)). Sometimes, Earl has incorporated traditional music into the
TAGS score to great effect, and while classical music hasn't been done that
often, I still thought it was possible that he had included the Prokofiev
piece, arranged to fit the show.

However, it is just different enough to be uniquely Earl's. Here's the
Prokofiev piece (it's the part with the 'walking tempo' brass part - starting
at about :19).

Now, have a listen at 7:23 of the Bible Study podcast for Earl's theme
(Jimmy's theme?) - pretty amazing, huh? Imitation is the sincerest form of
flattery.

I wonder what causes that? :-)

Over and Under,
Clyde Barn

Re: living people on stamps

2011-09-30 Thread Dixonhayes

I went to the USPS website this morning to see how to get Andy's picture
on a stamp - there's no place for it!? *
Evidently Lucille, they want you to snail mail your suggestion, it's good
for business!

Here's the correct address:

Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee, c/o Stamp Development, U.S. Postal
Service, 475 L’Enfant Plaza SW, Room 3300, Washington, DC 20260-3501

There's still no guarantee the public will get to come up with whoever
gets the honor of the first living person on a stamp. It may nor may not be a
publicly discussed suggestion like, say, Neil Armstrong or Maya Angelou.

Personally, I'm guessing we'll see another set of classic TV stamps coming
down the road, and maybe Andy and Opie with their fishing poles are
featured in that series along with, say, Dick Van Dyke tripping over the
ottoman
or Mary Tyler Moore throwing her hat in the air.

Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum
cleaner,then reach
down, pick it up,examine it,then put it down to give the vacuum one more
chance?Uh huh,I see
that smile on your face...you know you've done it before.Curious.Curious.
