TAGS alumni on Gunsmoke
I've been watching the first season of Gunsmoke. Last night I watched Episode 2, Hot Spell, in which our Andy's Uncle Ollie (played by James Westerfield) pitted himself against Aunt Bee's Medicine Man, Colonel Harvey (portrayed by John Dehner). I won't tell the outcome of the episode, but I will give the hint that this was several years before either feller appeared on TAGS. BTW, I've heard John Dehner's last name pronounced Dinner on both of our Mayberry podcasts, but on all the old-time radio shows I've heard, his name was pronounced DAY-ner. I think Dehner played the bad guy on every other episode of the radio Gunsmoke. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
English Question
Yes, Marie, it should be prEying on my mind, not 'praying'. I still say the 'englishers' are all men! Lucille (from Connecticut) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Final Thanksgiving Thought
I always thought TAGS should have had a Thanksgiving episodes. The Darlings could have brought a Hoot Owl Pie and of course Doctor Peterson would have to have been the one to carve the turkey. This all proves one thing. You can't judge a doctor by the way he carves a turkey. I also think we should observe a moment of silence in memory of all those turkeys out there who sacrificed their lives so we could enjoy a wonderful feast with our loved ones. OK, Mr. Schwamp, that's long enough. I said a moment of silence. There always has to be one smark alec in the group. Oh yes, my wife and I prayed before we ate. We did not prey. I am humbled beyond words that I, a retired teacher, had to be reminded about that pair of homophones. We really do have some great trained noticers in our family don't we? If anyone ever catches a mistake like that again please let me know. I definitely want to here about it. My spell check did not catch that won. -- Ken Anderson The Mayberry Guru 2906 May Street Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54701 www.mayberryreflections.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Five or 5
Ken, I think you answered your own question! The idea of changing the 'Five' to 'Fife' at some point is great! You must have a nice bucket to put on your head for thanken. FunGirl-Skippy Sandy in IN ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Praying/Preying
You may have Praying on your mind, but on the other hand, something is Preying on your mind. Praying is talking to God. Preying is more or less stalking or going after something stealthily. Welford theCameraNut ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Andy moment
My 14-year-old son, Alex, and I were raking and bagging leaves today. For those of you who've suffered through this before, you know that you can shake the leaf bags to get more leaves in each bag. Every time he would do this, Alex would yell, All right, shake down ! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
preying
It is preying on my mind. Not praying. And, that was preying on my mind, too. Also, I watched TAGS on TVLand on Thanksgiving day. The Opie the Birdman has no laugh track. Some of my DVD's have no laugh track, either on certain shows. Did Opie the Birdman ever have a laugh track? That, also, is preying on my mind. Bee in New Concord, OH Brenda J. Barney the Lawman
During the Barney the Lawman episode when Allen Melvin and the other vegetable salesman are topping of their radiator water at Wally's, and overhear the guys laughing about Barney Fife, does Floyd say something about Barney using his pistol to 'start the potato sack race at the Mason's picnic'? Beside the colorized episodes where a lodge is used (a pseudo Shriner-style fraternity), how many other references to fraternal organizations are discussed (aside from Opie's Wildcats, where he was Keeper of the Flame)? Allen Melvin was also on All in the Family/Archie Bunker's place as a character known as Barney Hefner.
