FYI...I'm sure you know this but it's a question we get a lot: In the title Mayberry, R.F.D., what does RFD stand for? In 1896, the U.S. Congress approved Rural Free Delivery. People were becoming increasingly concerned taht a growing country needed to provide postal service to as many citizens as possible, and the villages of Charles Town, Halltown, and Uvilla, West Virginia were the test markerts for the project. Postmaster General William S. Bissel was outraged that Congress would charge him with such a ridiculous idea and he refused to spend the $20,000 appropriation stating it was clear that such a move would bankrupt the nation. --Allan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
New Mayberry Community
Wow, I signed up with the new Mayberry Community Webiste. It is wonderful. One suggestion though. There is so much stuff there you will probably need to use thicker wires on your electronal equipment in order to get it all working. I sure hope everyone who signs up will add some pictures as it would be wonderful to finally be able to put some faces to the names we all have come to know. Looking forward to seeing many of you joining up. And thank you Allan, for providing yet another great avenue for us to travel down as we travel to Mayberry each and every day. By the way I did not get a stainless steel watch with a 5 engraved on it for Christmas, but I did get a beautiful pocket watch like Andy had. That is even better. I have always wanted a pocket watch. -- Ken Anderson The Mayberry Guru 2906 May Street Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54701 www.mayberryreflections.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
WBMUTBB Digest, Vol 12, Issue 382 baby blues
Ken, Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a Mayberry Reunion type program in Branson, MO. There were several cast members there such as, Ernest T., Goober, Charlene and the Darlin' boys, and yes, even Ole Barn. It is most definitely one of the highlights of my life. I got autographs from everyone except the Darlin' boys. I was also able to get my picture taken with several cast members which are some of my most prized possessions. ( guess only folks on the digest would understand that.) I was able to visit with Charlene, Goober, and even Ernest T., and Barney. One of the pictures I have is of me with Barney. I can tell you for a fact that his eyes were the Baby Blue. I got my pictures out to make sure. So I hope this will serve as an Official Verification of that and maybe you will even receive this in the afternoon mail which will make even more official. I also want to say Thanks to you for your all of your work in keeping Mayberry alive! As times change, seemingly sometimes for the worst, it's good to be able to go back to Mayberry. My family and I watch TAGS everyday. We also, as has been tradition since my kids were born, watch the Christmas Episode every Christmas Eve which really has come to mean a lot to my family through the years. I grew up in a small town much like Mayberry and I appreciate that more and more all the time. I wish you and everyone on the digest a Happy and Prosperous New Year!! Re: Mayberry RFD
To answer Wayne and Anne Newsome's question, Mayberry R.F.D. was a continuation of The Andy Griffith Show, when Andy left the cast. Ken Berry, fresh off his run on F Troop, was introduced as farmer and city councilman Sam Jones during the last season of The Andy Griffith Show and was now the alpha male of Mayberry. The show ran three seasons from 1968 until that fateful year CBS cancelled everything with a tree in it, 1971, despite the fact Mayberry R.F.D. actually finished that season in the top 20. It's not on DVD yet but someone is adding episodes on Youtube. Dixon ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

I got to thinking that I should not call myself the Mayberry Guru. I should be Ken Anderson R.F.D. iMayberry Community
Wow! It's been a big day here in Mayberry and the new iMayberry Community web site. http://iMayberryCommunity.com Thanks to members of the WBMUTBB Chapter (who are currently the only ones that have been told about the site), the new community web site has gone from 2 members to about 70 members! That is a great launch for a Community web site and I can tell you I've had a great time seeing the profile images of so many of those that have joined. I've known many of you for YEARS and today is the first time I've see a face to go along with the e-mail address/name. That is BIG and it's part of the goal of the new site, to give us all a chance to know one another a bit better. To grow our friendships and strengthen the relationships we've shared. Again, the WBMUTBB Digest is going nowhere. The new iMayberry Community is a place to share even more Mayberry fun. I've created a Group at iMayberyCommunity.com called WBMUTBB? Chapter and I'd like to invite all the members of the WBMTUBB Chapter to become a member of that Group. When you go to the Group, you'll see a button with a plus sign and the words Join WBMUTBB? Chapter. All you need to do is click that button and you'll be added as a member of that group. I've added a Page for our chapter with photos of Chapter members taken at Mayberry Days each year. They go back to 2003 (which is when Jan got her digital camera). I have other photos but I'll have to find those. Enjoy! I hope all of you will give the iMayberryCommunity a shot. I think it will be a lot of fun for us all. --Allan Newsome http://iMayberryCommunity.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Alumni Sighting
I was watching The Virginian this afternoon on the Westerns Channel, when whom did I happen to see but Bing Russell.Bing Russell played Mr. Burton the blasting engineer on TAGS in the episode about the loaded goat. Anyway, on The Virginian, Bing was a bad man who kidnapped a small boy and held him for ransom. But the ironic part is the young boy he kidnapped was played by his own son, Kurt Russell. Isn't that interesting. Wonder why Kurt Russell was never on TAGS? Probably because he was 4 years older than Ron Howard and would not have fit in. By the way, Peggy was in the show as well. Orville Hendricks - The Butter and Egg Man. If any bad man ever kidnapped Evan, it would be like O Henry's short story The Ransom of Red Chief. They would wind up paying me to take Evan back. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Christmas
Hello everyone I want to wish you and yourins a merry christmas and happy new year. My mama made it through christmas and we are so blessed. She had so many presents that there was little room for her! She laughed so much she set the alarms off on her vent. This christmas was a blessing. We watched the andy christmas show together and she wore daddy's mayberry sheriff badge for the day (he got it for christmas several years before he passed away). I think barney's eyes were brown and like others think, he used baby blues as an expression. Mayberry RFD was the spinoff fron tags and starred ken berry. It doesn't hurt to review things every so often. Alan congrats on the new web site and our chapter will be signing up.
