Andy's Cause of Death, Burial Info
RALEIGH, N.C. — The death certificate for Andy Griffith says the actor’s death earlier this week was caused by a heart attack. The certificate says the 86-year-old had suffered the attack 24 hours before he died at 7 a.m. Tuesday. It also says he had suffered for years from other illnesses, including coronary artery disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia, which can be a form of high cholesterol or high triglycerides. Griffith’s death certificate was filed Thursday with the vital records office in Dare County. It says he’s buried in the Griffith Family Cemetery in Manteo. Dr. Johnny Farrow of Manteo signed the certificate. Griffith was best known for playing Sheriff Andy Taylor in “The Andy Griffith Show,” which aired from 1960 to 1968. He was born in Mount Airy and lived in Manteo. Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. Just thought this good info to pass on. Kitten and Meeting Andy
Below are a couple of nice stories from a friend back in NC emailed me this morning. He told me he was going to get a hot dog at Char-Grill and walk down to Pullen Park to eat lunch by the TV Land statue in memory of Andy. Would have been nice to join him - I am having a hot dog for lunch in Nashville today. -- My wife does foster care and humane society work with cats and brought this little kitten home to try and find it a home. I immediately named it Opie (just rub the red head for luck!). She posted the photo on the society’s web site (of course with the explanation of why the kitten was named Opie) and a family immediately expressed an interest. They visited the house yesterday and will pick him up next week. They are Andy fans so we had a lot to talk about. My wife actually got to meet Andy back in 2003. She was doing foster care (for kids) and she had a little girl from the Methodist Home in Manteo that was going to live with her. She went down there to pick her up and Andy and Cindi were there for the going away party that was given for the little girl. Andy was told that Susanne was a school teacher and invited her to sit down beside him on the piano bench and talked with her about the days when he was a school teacher. I wish she had a photo of that occasion. Andy gave the little girl $100 and later sent her a computer. They sent Christmas cards to the little girl for a couple of years also. - Jeff ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

MY FRIEND ANDY
I'm pretty much speechless about the passing of Andy Griffith. I knew this day would come at some time, but I never thought I would feel so deeply saddened as I do. I knew it would be a sad day, but I feel as though I have lost my best friend. I can't even think about it without shedding a tear. I've had many friends call me or come and see me to offer me comfort with this. Even my children made a comment on facebook stating that they thought many kids never knew there were lyrics to "The Fishin' Hole" and that they knew it did, and could actually recite those words. They finished that by saying "thanks dad"made me cry. My prayers to his family, and even to all of us, who will keep his memory alive forever. Barney's gun
A couple of days ago the topic of Barney's gun came up. I had incorrectly thought it was a Smith & Wesson, but thanks to research by Tom "Zumafan," we have the correct answer. http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Andy_Griffith_Show,_The According to this website, the revolvers used by Andy, Barney and Warren were a model known as the Colt Official Police. In a real law enforcement agency, it does make sense that all officers would be issued the same weapon, because then they would have only needed to purchase one type of ammunition. I'm not saying this is true everywhere in the real world, mind you. I spent two or three hours perusing the above website (mostly the James Bond section) and I noticed there were no entries for Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Maybe somebody who knows more about guns than I can contribute info to this wiki. Paul Mulik ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
repeat of previous message
As to where Andy "Will be laid to rest."as some are asking. He died about 7 AM, his funeral was at 11 and he was buried on his estate after the funeral service. As a simple man with simple tastes, I am sure he didn't want all the hoopla of media cameras, news crews, etc., all clamoring thru Manteo making a mess of things, so he had it planned to be as quick as possible, leaving us to cherish the memories of him and his laughter, drama, charity and just plain being down home Andy! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
