Re: TV Land
I'm so tired of all those commercials for Class Reunion that I want to go up an alley and holler FISH! Sam Drucker Drucker's General Store Hooterville Me too Sam! It is truly amazing to me how a channel can go down the tubes so fast. I try to have a live and let live philosophy, but I have no desire to know what a lesbian from high school 20 years ago is doing now, or any of the other numerous people on this show. I know way more about the show than I care to. MTV and VH1 came out with additional channels as their target audience aged. Perhaps TVLand or another company will debut a new channel with the older shows again. I have been postponing ordering the TAGS DVD sets, but no longer. I would also like to start ordering some DVDs from other great TV shows of the past (Lucy, TV westerns, etc). Does anyone have any suggestions for quality web sites to order from? ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Aunt Bee, you're right, Raggedy Man was a very good movie. I too thought of Sarah while watching it. If you get a chance, read the Raggedy Man book. It has a different ending from the movie and adds a little more intrigue. Also, all the talk of Sarah reminded me of the film Raggedy Man, in which Sissy Spacek was a small-town operator during WWII (the big one!). It is certainly a job fraught with urgencies and challenges but the folks out there knew they had a friend to depend on. Not like today where everything is computerized and we rely on electronal marvels all the time. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Re: TV Land Response
I received a response to my message to TV Land. Here it is. Dear Ms. Whitlock: You and the others that you reference in your email can comment on existing shows and request new ones by posting on the Programming Suggestions (TV Land) message board at http://www.tvland.com/boards. All viewer comments and suggestions made on that board are forwarded to our programming department for consideration. *TVLTheLink* *Community Manager* *The Community @ * *TV Land Online* I suggest we all go to the message boards as suggested and tell them our feelings on the matter. I just read an interesting tid-bit and wanted to share with all of you. Of course this might not be news to anyone but me. grin I read on a web site that Madge Blake was selected to play Aunt Bee on TAGS. She could not accept due to her role on Leave it to Beaver as Larry Mondello's mother. She suggested her friend Frances Bavier and the rest is history. Was reading on Wikipedia about Jerry Van Dyke, and that he was offered a role on TAGS as Barney's replacement, but turned it down to do My Mother the Car. It says he also turned down the title role in some show called---Gilligan's Island! Who preytell, was this man's agent? Ted in MD I also read that Jane Mansfield turned down the role of Ginger. She did not think the show would be a hit. Anybody out there from Iowa City, Iowa? Close, but no cigar. I'm in South Dakota, just a stone's throw from Sioux City. I was up in both of your cities the first of September. I do research on Laura Ingalls Wilder and daughter Rose Wilder Lane. I was in De Smet, SD at the LIW Memorial Society and West Branch, IA at the Herbert Hoover museum. Beautiful country up that way! Ever noticed that there didn't seem to be a bathroom? I know they didn't want to show a potty in the cell, but I can't remember seeing a bathroom in any TAGS. Leave it to Beaver showed several bathroom scenes...just wondering. I remember bathroom scenes in Leave it to Beaver, but I never remember seeing the potty shown. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but all I remember seeing is the sink and bathtub. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Well friends, I feel a little stupid after doing some research on whether Don Knotts smoked or not. If you'll remember, Don died of complications related to his lung cancer, which he developed from smoking. So whether Barney Fife was a smoker or not, I think it's obvious that Don Knotts was. Dave Strang I remember seeing a few pieces of film from production meetings for TAGS. Both Andy and Don were smoking in them as well as most of the production staff as they sat around the table.
