Ken, I completely agree. I’m glad I met you at an event in 2019. It was fun
being arrested.

Lots of luck to you and yours to everyone in Mayberry.

Mayberry in Film Noir

2020-11-29 Thread David Burch

I watched a good film noir from 1950 titled “Where Danger Lives”starring Robert
Mitchum that was partly filmed at the Forty Acres backlot.First, Mitchum had a
wreck in front of the All Souls Church when the town drunkwas driving on the
wrong side of the road. Later, he bought a newspaper at  a pharmacy where
Foley’s Market and Floyd’sBarber Shop was. You could see the columns to the
courthouse in the background. The movie was produced by RKO, and the boys at the
lab (Google) tell us that itwas sold to Desilu Productions in 1957.

I watch a lot of film noir, but I’ve never noticed Mayberry before.I’ll have to
keep these trained eyes open.

The Taylor Inn and Mayberry Guru

2019-09-21 Thread David Burch
My two loves are TAGS and the Green Bay Packers. I combined both this weekend.
My wife and I stayed in Andy’s room at the Taylor Inn in Clear Lake, WI and
were blown away by what Dave has done in replicating Andy’s house. And he has a
great replica of the courthouse in the basement. So many details done just
right like the gun on top of the china cabinet (in case anyone comes looking
for reveng), doilies in the cells and the map behind Andy’s desk. He has a
squad car and Wally’s Station behind his garage. I highly recommend it.

Then we met Ken Anderson in Eau Claire at a Comic-Con event. He’s a real
treasure. He put the handcuffs on me, turned on the siren, and showed me his
bullet. “Now there’s bullet maintenance.”

Then on to Green Bay for another Packer win. A great time had by all.

Get Barney Fife

2018-08-21 Thread David Burch
There was a story on the news yesterday about an explosion at a hospital in
central Texas that forced a nearby nursing home to be evacuated to a church
where they were comforted with much needed air conditioning and The Andy
Griffith Show. They showed the patients watching the episode where Barney was
probing Otis’ subconscious. GET BARNEY FIFE.

Aaron Rodgers and Citizen's Arrest

2011-03-31 Thread David Burch
My daughter, who is away at college (“Hey, it’s that college kid”) and I are
big Green Bay Packer fans and she follows their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, on
Twitter.  She called to tell me about his recent Tweet.  Aaron was driving in
California, where it is against the law to drive and talk on a hand-held cell
phone.  A cop was in the next lane talking on his phone.  Aaron wrote that he
felt like making a citizen’s arrest, just like Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith
Show.  He loves that episode, especially when Gomer says “Citizen’s arrest.
Citizen’s arrest.”

Now here’s the weird part.   That episode was on TV Land today.  When my
daughter called, I was watching it, and it was right where Gomer was
confronting Barney.

You hear that, folks?  There are two sets of law.  One for the police and one
for the ordinary citizens.

Andy's gun

Andy fired a pistol only three times:

A) Signalling the beginning of paces in the feud,
2) Finding out that Barney's gun really was loaded after Gentleman Dan handed
it to Andy and
C) Shooting the tire in the counterfeiters' station wagon.

Never Forget Barney T-Shirt

I posted this a few days ago and didn't get any help, so I'm trying again.

I saw a picture of our very own Brad Paisley at the CMT Music Awards wearing a
T-shirt with a picture of Barney with the caption Never Forget.  Does anyone
know where to get one?  It's not at Weaver's.

Pet names

We had cats named Opie and Thelma Lou and dogs named Ellie and Bee.  The vet
always spelled it B-E-A.  Sure he knows all about animal medicine, but he can't
spell Bee.

What about children's names?  Our son is Andy.  My wife wouldn't let me name
our daughter Sarah.  I did name my GPS device Sarah, but I digress.

Mayberryopoly and Gomer Pile

2007-12-27 Thread David Burch
Merry Christmas, fellow Mayberrians. Weaver's really came through for me. I
got the 2008 calendar and Mayberryopoly. One mistake I noticed was that Gomer
is on the $10 and they spelled his last name P-I-L-E.

They got Aunt Bee, Andy Taylor, and even Barney Fife right. The Mayberry
Gazette always gets Barney's name wrong, and Taylor can be spelled a lot of
ways. Haven't seen a mention of Helen yet, but her last name is spelled
C-R-U-M-P.

What's wrong with third party? It isn't dirty.

Mayberry Moment - Buffalo head nickle

2006-12-28 Thread David Burch

I had a Mayberry moment yesterday. I found a buffalo head nickle digging
through my change. It's in pretty bad shape as you can't even read the date.
I showed it to my 15-year old daughter, who is a TAGS fan. She asked what it
was worth. I said About a nickle. She said I wonder what it would be worth
if the buffalo was pointing in the wrong direction.

Her education was worth every penny.

Andy for Sheriff

  Hi Gang --
Where I work we just got this item into the newsroom, and I wanted
to pass it on right away.
(Platteville, WI) -- A Platteville, Wisconsin man who is running for
Grant County sheriff has legally changed his name to Andy Griffith.
The man says it was the best way he could think of to get enough name
recognition to win the election. Griffith, of course, appears endlessly
in TV reruns as the sheriff of the fictional town of Mayberry. Some
Grant County voters have complained that the candidate is making a mockery
of local politics.
Sure hope the news service provides an update after the votes have been
counted. If he was going to do that, wonder why he didn't change his
last name to Taylor. I work in radio but I'm not changing my name to
Leonard Blush, lol ---Maybe we have some members from that area that can
provide more, :)

How to Get Replacements for Missing Laugh Tracks

Hey Allan, your instructions say to remove the Proof of Purchase tab (the white

on. I kinda hate to cut the box. Can you call the man for official

RE: Middle Name: Samuel

2006-04-09 Thread David Burch
For Christmas this past year I received the book written by Ken Beck and Jim
Clark entiltled, Mayberry Memories. It is such a great, interesting book with
many vivid pictures from each season of TAGS. As I was thumbing through the
book last night, I noticed a picture on page 204 of Andy, Helen, and their baby
boy. The text near the picture states that their baby is named Andrew Samuel
Taylor, Jr. It also mentions that Andy's middle name is Jackson, but you'll
find no argument here, because
Mayberry has a higher power whose middle name just happens to be Samuel. Does
anyone know who they are talking about?
Have a Mayberry Day!
Connie
Iowa's Biggest TAGS Fan

Hey Connie, they switched around the middle names.

Andy Griffith's middle name is Samuel. Andy Taylor's middle name is Jackson.
When they named Andy Taylor's son, they gave him Andy Griffith's middle name.

Nicknames

2006-02-20 Thread David Burch
As ol' Barn told Mrs. Lesch, That's just a nick for Bernard, something hit
me last night when Barney called Thelma Lou Thel. He called her
Thel, Andy was Anj, and Gomer was Gome. Who else did he give a nick to?
I seem to remember Ope for Opie. Where there any others?

Right off the bat, I can think of Goob for Goober, Nita for Juanita, and
Charlie or Chuck for Charles O'Malley.

The bigger they are, the nicer they are.
