Barney Impersonator

2013-06-12 Thread John Frungillo
Hello Mayberry friends. Several years ago My family and I went to Mayberry Days
in Mt. Airy. (Wonderful time!). There was a Barney Fife impersonator there
who was simply great. Do any of my Mayberry friends know who he is and how to
contact him? Allen...can you help?

My first mother-in-law was very much a country gal and looked forward to having
'salt fish' for breakfast.  The fish would come packed in large plastic tubs
and were - yup - packed in salt.  She said it was only available in months with
an 'r' in it (January, February, March, April, September, etc).  It was fried
with eggs and no matter how much you rinsed the fish, they were salty enough to
curl your toes!  I could take it only in small amounts and occasionally, but
she and her husband eagerly looked forward to this morning meal.

When I was just a boy, my grandfather and dad would take my brother and
me to upper Canada for a week of fishing in the wilderness. It took us
two days to get there driving and two days back so just left five days
of fishing, fishing and more fishing. We would be on the lake at the
crack of dawn, catch our breakfast - fish - build a campfire and eat our
breakfast. Then we would fish for a few hours, build a campfire and eat
our fish for lunch. Then we would fish a few more hours, build a
campfire and eat our fish for supper and fish some more until dark. The
same routine for five days and then bring lots of frozen fish home to
eat for the next several months. Fish for breakfast is gd. I
don't think Andy and Opie ever went on that long a fishing trip,
especially to catch Carp for the museum. The Gollywobbler

The other day I recalled having fish for breakfast. In the northeast lox on
a bagel is a breakfast treat, especially served at a brunch!

Could this be the most extreme ( lets call it a fabrication ) on TAGS ?

Near the end of the episode Mans Best Friend ; Goober tells Tommy (when
Tommy is asking for the phone number of the man with a horse ) that HE DIDNT
HAVE A PENCIL HANDY and told the number to his dog ( the one that could talk ).
So Goober was asking Spot the dog for the number. Can you imagine Goober not
having something to write with ??? Is there any other exteme fabrications
on TAGS that you can think of ?

Also this is another momentary suspension of disbelief scene, I still like to
point them out. Opie was explaining that the walkie talkies transmit button had
to be pushed to transmit and released to recieve, it makes you wonder how Spot
operated the thing !

A story about Jesse...from Harvey

2013-02-25 Thread John Frungillo

A story about Jesse (you'll be surprised!)

This is a wonderful short story... but the end is
just so wonderful…..you’ll enjoy it for sure…..

Let me tell you, Jesse hated this job.
And you would too, I imagine, if you had to do it.

Jesse was a chicken plucker. That's right.
He stood on a line in a chicken factory and spent his days
pulling the feathers off dead chickens so the rest of us
wouldn't have to.

It wasn't much of a job. But at the time,
Jesse didn't think he was much of a person.

His father was a brute of a man.
His dad was actually thought to be mentally ill
and treated Jesse rough all of his life.

Jesse's older brother wasn't much better.
He was always picking on Jesse and beating him up.

Yes, Jesse grew up in a very rough home in
West Virginia. Life was anything but easy.
and he thought life didn't hold much hope for him.
That's why he was standing in this chicken line,
doing a job that darn few people wanted.

In addition to all the rough treatment at home, it seems
that Jesse was always sick. Sometimes it was real
physical illness, but way too often it was all in his head.

He was a small child, skinny and meek.
That sure didn't help the situation any.

When he started to school, he was the object
of every bully on the playground.

He was a hypochondriac of the first order.
for Jesse, tomorrow was not always something
to be looked forward to.
But, he had dreams. He wanted to be a ventriloquist.
He found books on ventriloquism. He practiced with
sock puppets and saved his hard earned dollars until

He could get a real ventriloquist dummy.
When he got old enough, he joined the military.
And even though many of his hypochondriac symptoms
persisted, the military did recognize his talents and
put him in the entertainment corp.
That was when his world changed.
He gained confidence.
He found that he had a talent for making people laugh,
and laugh so hard they often had tears in their eyes.
Yes, little Jesse had found himself.

You know, folks, the history books are full of people
who overcame a handicap to go on and make a success
of themselves, but Jesse is one of the few I know of
who didn't overcome it. Instead he used his paranoia
to make a million dollars, and become one of
the best-loved characters of all time in doing it!

Yes, that little paranoid hypochondriac, who transferred
his nervousness into a successful career, still holds the
record for the most Emmy's given in a single category.
The wonderful, gifted, talented, and nervous comedian
Who brought us -
Barney Fife

Was

Jesse Don Knotts

NOW YOU KNOW, THE REST OF THE STORY

There is a street named for him and his statue in
Morgantown, West Virginia, his place of birth.

2008-02-05 Thread John Frungillo
Hi folks,
I'm trying to find out where I can download The Fishin Hole song to
my cell phone without paying an arm and a leg. The places I've
checked on-line charge nearly ten bucks PER MONTH. I only want The
Fishin Hole song on my cell phone...I don't want to own the company.
I'd appreciate some help from my TAGS friends.

Stuff I've noticed

2007-11-08 Thread John Frungillo
Hi Folks,

I've also noticed that the calendars never show the year or the
month. I've also noticed you never see advertising signs other than
the generic Ace Gasoline or Acme Meats kinda signs.

No advertising signs at Weaver's, The fillin' Station or even in
merchants window displays. The only brand name I've seen is Ford
because Ford supplied all of the vehicles for TAGS. Seems the entire
population of Mayberry drove a Ford...but I don't recall ever seeing
a Ford Dealer in town. Interesting, huh?

Mayberry Days

2007-09-27 Thread John Frungillo
Hi Folks,

...just a note to say my bride and I won't be able to make it to Mt
Airy for Mayberry Days this year. Guess I'll sit around and look at
the hundreds of pictures I took last year. For my Mayberry friends
that are attending: I'm sure you will have a ball! For those of you
who have never attended: Ya gotta try and make it there at least
once. Good luck to all of the Trivia contestants. Give my regards to
everyone at The Snappy Lunch and of course to Floyd the barber,
Barney, Goober, Otis and of course Ernest T.

Cousin Andy/Cousin Barney

2007-04-16 Thread John Frungillo
Wow. Ken Anderson is a true TAGS fan. He named 2 of the 3 episodes
where Andy and Barney refer to each other as cousin...The Manhunt
and Run away Kid.

Ken, so that you can sleep tonight, the other was episode number 1.
The New Housekeeper. All three references to Andy and Barney being
cousins were in the very first year.

Salt Risin' Bread...mmmmm, mmmmmmm, GOOD

2007-02-16 Thread John Frungillo
I have lots of friends and relatives in North Carolina and when
heading South for a visit I always load up on Salt Risin' Bread. It
seems to be a special treat in North Carolina. I also send a loaf or
two for Christmas.

Another god food that seems to be hard to find in that area are
White Hots. Don't know why. Could be that my friends and relatives
all live in small towns...like Mayberry. (Anybody heard of Rich
Square, NC?)

Of course I have a difficult time finding Grits around here. I mean
REAL grits, not the instant kind. Nothin' like Grits, lots of butter,
salt and pepper to make a breakfast real special! I'll bet Barney
enjoyed a special breakfast at the Diner from time to time :)

Gotta go...I'm gittin hungry!

2007 TAGS calendar

2006-10-11 Thread John Frungillo
Hi folks,

I'm stumped. I just purchased the 2007 Tags calendar and there is a

and a plaid jacket. Andy's hair is very curly and rather long. (for
Andy). I don't recall any TAGS episodes that this picture could be
from. Do any of my TAGS friends know the background on this picture?

Mt. Airy (Mayberry Days)

2006-10-03 Thread John Frungillo
Hi folks,

...just wanted to let all of my TAGS friends know what a wonderful
time my family and I had at Mayberry Days. It sure was worth the
600 mile drive from western New York. It was great to meet many of
the TAGS folks who post on this forum and it was especially nice to
meet Allen. My wife now tells everyone that I was like a kid in
Disney World. And actually she is right! Allen had all of the TAGS
members introduce themselves. When it came to me, I told everyone my
name and that I was from Hornell, New York. Allen said So you are
the ONE from New York. Ha, Ha. Actually, Hornell is the same size
town as Mt. Airy. We don't lock our doors and everyone knows
everyone. I think that's one reason I'm such a TAGS fan. We are
looking forward to Mayberry Days next year...and after telling all of
my friends in Hornell about what a great time we had, I'm sure there
will be a bunch of Hornell people there next year!
