Thank you for Mayberry Meetup

Thank you to Allan and Jan Newsome and all the others whose names I wish I knew 
to include here, for a wonderful time at the Mayberry Meetup in Mt. Airy a few 
weeks ago. From arranging meals for us to the Sunday Worship service (which 
cleverly correlated scripture with a TAGS episode focused on Otis), I know more 
hours went into preparing for this event than I can imagine.
Thank you to the tribute artists. It was easy to tell which characters they 
were and it was so much fun to see them. Very impressive.
Thank you to Dewey Lamb for all the  creative door prizes he made. He always 
puts a lot of thought, time, (and I suspect, money), into making TAGS treasures.
And thank you to all of you who I got to speak with, hang out with, and get to 
know a bit.  Mayberry fans are the best.

question about attempt to rename NC town

Hello fellow TAGS fans-

I was recently re-reading the Andy Griffith Story by Terry Collins and the 
author mentions an avid 14 year old fan club president in the 1980's wanting to 
rename a NC town Mayberry. Andy Griffith opposed the idea, saying it was 
“enormously embarrassing,” to him.

So here are my questions-what happened to that fan club? I cannot remember the 
name but it was not the Rerun Watchers Club. Does anyone know what happened to 
that club?

And why was Andy Griffith embarrassed by the idea, rather than flattered? Too 
much attention? Did he think it was just silly?

I would enjoy hearing your thoughts.

Question about Opie the Birdman

Hello fellow TAGS fans. I have a question about the Opie the Birdman episode. I 
have looked high and low online and cannot find an answer. Were the birds used 
in that episode live, dead, or man-made?
When Opie is sending the baby birds to their freedom, I do not see the 
fluttering of wings I would expect so I do not think they were live but am not 
sure. And I truly don't know about the mama bird. Does anyone know?

David Quinn's question

In response to David Quinn's question/challenge of when TAGS characters told an 
outright lie---the one that comes to mind is Andy calling his insufferable 
Uncle Ollie and tells him escaped convicts have been spotted on the outskirts 
of Mayberry. This was right after Andy found out the convicts had been captured.
As hard as it is to imaging Andy lying, I sure could understand it in this case.

daughter. Has she been found?

Kudos to Dewey Lamb

A special shout out to Dewey Lamb for the many unique artifacts he made for the 
Mayberry Days auction. There were several long tables of auction items and half 
of them were covered with items made by Dewey. It was obvious Dewey put a lot 
of time and thought into these beautiful pieces. They were very popular. I bid 
on one of his creations  but the final price was over twice my maximum bid!

proclamation, keys to the city were given to three special guests and ALLEN 
NEWSOME was named the recipient of this year's prestigious Cat's Award!

Mayberry Days and AG movie

Hello everyone. At Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy today, Murder in Coweta County was 
shown at the Earle Theater. I never saw this movie before so I went today. The 
producer, Dick Atkins, was there. He spoke to the audience before the movie and 
took questions afterward. He was quite pleasant and very knowledgeable. It was 
also interesting to see Andy Griffith in such a different role. (If you haven't 
seen this movie, Andy Griffith plays a bad guy). I am just realizing how many 
movies Andy Griffith was in. (TAGS will still always be my favorite).

Mayberry RFD DVDs

Hello everyone-


I am working my way through the Andy Griffith Show DVD collection--all 8 
seasons--and realizing that when I finish viewing them all, I will miss 
watching them. I have no recollection of the follow up show, Mayberry R.F.d,  
so I did some searching and found that Barnes & Noble is going to be selling 
the 1st season at the best price I have found. I preordered the set. In case 
anyone else wants to do the same--the link is below.  Shipping is free and 
taxes were about $3.00. I really enjoy getting the emails and comments from 
wbmutbb. Thank you to all of you for your comments and input. I find it all 
interesting and informative.


Someone asked if the man wearing white in the Twilight Zone episode of The Ice 
Cream Man was Floyd. I don't think it was but am not sure.

thanks for tips on authentic memorabilia

Thank you to everyone who responded with their tips regarding authentic TAGS 
memorabilia. I had looked on Ebay and a few other sites and had seen autographs 
for sale--some sellers were honest and said they were copies---other, well...

I knew it was a very, very long shot but when I think of all the dishes used in 
Aunt Bee's kitchen, (not to mention pickle jars) and tablecloths and books and 
the million and one other props that must have been used on the show, I 
wondered if any might ever be for sale. But as a wise responder to my question 
said, even a certificate of authenticity can be faked.


On another note, I saw Aunt Bee on Alfred Hitchcock Presents-Revenge about a 
week ago. She played a Mrs. Fergusen.


And does anyone know of a TAGS chapter in Fayetteville, NC?
