Good to be back!
Hello everyone. Due to my old email service being discontinued about three years ago, I have been unable to receive posts from our digest. I sure have missed everyone's thoughts on Mayberry, etc. Thanks to Allen (Floyd) for battling his way through the mean old firewall, and getting my new email up and running. He saved my life! Thanks lifesaver man! We hope to see everyone in Scottsburg in June. Rex from Three Way, TN ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Dear TAGS, The Sazerac is a local New Orleans variation of an old-fashioned cognac or whiskey cocktail, named for the Sazerac de Forge et Fils brand of cognac that was its original prime ingredient. The drink is some combination of cognac or rye whiskey, absinthe or Herbsaint, and Peychaud's Bitters; it is distinguished by its preparation method.[2] It is sometimes referred to as the oldest known American cocktail,[3] with origins in pre–Civil War New Orleans, Louisiana, though there are much earlier published instances of the word cocktail. It allso said that the bitters were made by a pharmacist at thepharmacy down the street. It might of been Miss Ellie at the pharmacy fixing the bitters while Don was there, practicing making milkshakes. Remember when Andy and Peggy came back to the house after their date, the way they were walking, wonder if Andy was the Designated Driver. Didn't he order a draft beer? Also, wasn't the Goober Goes to a Car Show filmed in California? Then the Coors truck would of been legal. Mizzus Why-lee of Sand Mt. Are you kidding, Bobby? MR. McBEEVEE!! Dear TAGS, I watched the Dick Van Dyke show this morning and the lady that played Rob'smother was Isabel Randolph. Dear TAGS, I have learned to: Wash my hands after eating kerosene pickles.Be patient waiting out the sisters on Sunday to be able to use the phone.Grab a coat to put on Opie to go over to Clara's house because Luke Comstock is coming by.Never order escargots. When it is late, I will let Wally check out my car the next morning, because it gets dark early and I can't trusther for the road after dark. Not to let Myrt Hubcaps Lesh, Bernard's widow, negotiate my next car purchase.Always buy my scarves from Bert Miller, because he puts them in a fancy box!Always take a suitcase full of toiletries to go and visit my cousin on a overnight trip.Never buy a postcard and mail it off to where you are going, because they will get it right after you get there. P.S. I went and found the movie The Ghost and Mr. Chicken and I have just only watched the first few minutes of the movie, where they are all eating breakfast. The sales clerk (Dabbs Greer, who sold Andy the canning jars and asked Andy if Aunt Bee would like something else besides canning jars), played Mr. Mason, Ms. Hendrix'sdefense attorney. Isn't that peculiar and curious that Mr. Mason, sold Andy 2 cases of Mason jars to Andy for Aunt Bee's birthday. When Rob (Dick van Dyke) is getting into the jury box, he sits rightnext to who I think is (but not sure) Elmo, who wanted the pool table in the church basement. Dear TAGS, Forgot to add that a girl who was trying out for X Factor in Britian, said at the audition that she was from Fife. Isn't that the way that our beloved Barney spells his last name? Then I remembered that I live less than 30 minutes from Fyffe, in AL. lol Was watching the Dick van Dyke show and they were all in the writers room working and ordered up some coffee and danish. The delivery boy was Jamie Farr, one of the gypsy's with the melody and the shortwave radio. Watching Bonanza now and Mary the County Nurse (the one that told her supervisor that she would get 100% cooperation) and wrangled Raffe Hollister into giving him his shot. That's gd stuff! Well, she has a leading role in this Bonanza episode called The Courtship. She is a gambler who gambled all her and her husbands money away in San Fransisco, who manages to try to marry Hoss to continue her gambling. This is one of my favorite Bonanza's. Dear TAGS, Have so many to tell. On Bonanza a while back, Mr. O'Malley was on with 2 other rich men trying to get Ben's Ponderosa. The rich lady with the fur stole on during Raffe Hollister singing with Andy is the same lady (I think) that was at the hotel with the jewelry at the hotel with Barney. Fred Goss was on the Dick van Dyke show yesterday with his on screen wife at a party at a house. Someone asked him a question and he got all nervous and was complaining. His wife had on a dress with the very wide collar with sparkling rhinestones or gems. He was probably dreading dry cleaning it. Rob Petrie left something in Alan Brady's office and was going to break in and get it. Along came the nightwatchman. It was the man who owned Jimmy the Goat. Also, I think the same guy was the man who's brakes were squeaking and Andy got fed up and give him a ticket. Dear Tags,I enjoyed looking at the behind the scenes of the unknown character of TAGS. Every night in Birmingham, AL channel WTTO-21 CW shows TAGS from 10pm to 11pm CT. They showedthe Gold Truck the other night, and I foundseveral bloopers, I was shocked at how manyI found. I actually went to Youtube and foundthe episode and watched it. When Andy firstpulls up to the courthouse and everyone is cheering, there is a man right in front of himthat looks like Nate Bracy from the Class Reunion.I saw him there, out in the audience down thestreet, standing by Aunt Bee and waving and cheering when Andy would speak. There was 2 ladies that had umbrellas next to where Aunt Beewas and then when Andy told everyone to go homeAunt Bee was not there. Jud or Choney, the older man was everywhere too.And I don't understand why didn't Gomer just go and put Regis's sign and lean it against the wall. Mrs. Mendlebright. The actress that played Mrs. Mendlebright was much younger looking, in a nice dress and it wasso nice to see her in modern clothes and youngerlooking. Also, when Andy opened the Coin OperatedLaundermat, when he sold it to the guy who hadhis eye on it ever since he opened it up, he told Aunt Bee that he got back exactly what he put intoit. Remember when Howard was going to buy theBarber Shop and rent it out to Floyd and the bankertold Floyd that Howard was entitled to 5 percent. Why didn't Andy get at least 5 to 10 percent overwhat he had put into the Laundermat? He wasat least entitled to that. Always went whoa! whenAndy gently tossed the shotgun on the couch.I am afraid of guns and was always taught to treatthem loaded, always. Skippy on The Waltons
I don't usually write in about the actors from TAGS I see appearing in other shows, but I thought I would this time. I've been watching The Waltons on DVD while I exercise on my elliptical, and I've seen two TAGS alumni, both former flames of Andy Taylor, on back-to-back episodes. Yesterday I saw Peggy McCay (Sharon DeSpain) playing the mother of a blind girl. This was eleven years after the Class Reunion episode. Then today I saw Joanna Moore (Peggy McMillan) playing the owner of a boarding house where John Walton, Sr., stays briefly while working a city job. This was twelve years after her stint as Andy's girlfriend. I must say that, although she was still a pretty lady, she looked a good bit older than her age of 39 or 40. I'm assuming this was due to some of the poor choices she made in her personal life. I thought she definitely looked older than Peggy McCay, even though Peggy is four years older than Joanna. Both ladies gave good performances, and it was nice to see them again in other roles. Thelma Lou (Janet) I also love the Waltons, and I remember another girl that was on the Waltons and that would be Skippy, Joyce Jameson. The episode is called The Marathon. John Boy signed up to do a marathon dance to win money for college. He found a partner named Daisy and they were soon dancing. Skippy played Helen Faye and she was dancing with a man named, Harry Bracket, but in parenthesis is Bernie Barrow. His real name is Bernard Barrow. Well, after many hours of dancing, Skippy's partner, had a massive heartattack, and Skippy was screaming, Bernie, Bernie!! It was sad. I also saw a couple of weeks ago more TAGS alumni on Bonanza. Mr. Carter from a Feud is a Feud was on and on the same episode was Nurse Mary, who Andy was trying to spend time with and Barney kept calling about the letter that came from the state. Look under S. For State. I love this song, I actually thought Earl Scruggs had written it, so to my surprise, it was Rodney Dillard and Mitch Jayne. Awesome! There is a Time There is a time, for love and laughter The days will pass like summer storms The winter wind will follow after But there is love and love is warm There is a time for us to wander When time is young and so are we The woods are green over yonder The path is new and the world is free There is a time when leaves are falling The woods are gray and the paths are old The snow will come when geese are calling You need a fire against the cold So do your roaming in the springtime And you'll find your love in the summer sun The frost will come and bring the harvest And you can sleep when day is done copyright Rodney Dillard and Mitch Jayne Phil. 4:13 I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

man in a hurry
There is difference between a law and ammunition. So, I think they were referring to a law in a town called Green River, which could have about peddling ammunition without a town license. lol I am not sure of the episode, but I believe Andy and Barney harmonize on Little Brown Church. I think that was on the show Man in a Hurry. This was many years ago, but even back then it was hard to find a 12 year old that was a Perry Como fan. I can remember Perry Como on the kitchen radio at home singing Catch a Falling Star that is amazing, though. Green River Ordiance
One of the regulations for canoeing the Green River in NC is that no alcohol or glass containers are permitted on the river. It's a state law. I guess you might even call it the Green River Ordinance. I wondered what was the Green River Ordiance. Here, we had in the forties a Green River Ordiance, and it was a manufacturing plant of some sort during the 1940's. I firmly believe that in every situation, no matter how difficult, God extends grace greater than the hardship, and strength and peace of mind that can lead us to a place higher than where we were before. -Andy Griffith I am glad that you put that up there, Vivian. Spread a Little Sunshine is the song that I think Barney and Andy sang together the best. We did not have songs like this up north. hi y'all
I have been kind of away but not really. Busy is all. I seem to remember Aunt Bee mentioning Marshall Dillon and I know Gunsmoke was on CBS on Saturday nights.? We used to go to my aunt's house on a lot of Saturday's and we would eat dinner and watch Have Gun Will Travel, Perry Mason and Gunsmoke.? I also remember Gunsmoke Once when my parents got the bright idea that we would all have horses or ponies (for us children), and we went riding and stopped at a little cabin and they had a little tv set there - We had to watch Gunsmoke in the cabin, because my parents could not miss it! Then we were able to ride home! Does anyone remember him wearing glasses in any other episodes? ha ha not really but I remember that fellow who was going to be foreclosed had to wear glasses to read and his wife could not read to him because of all that ironing - all those cotton fabrics. ha ha ! under the influence of elixir! titanium bumpers! Ms Luken's Dress Shop; Barney
I am new posting. I was at the post office lately and remembered they had taken out the stamp machine. I thought of Barney saying Boy, that just frosted me when they put that stamp machine in the post office! Any way, I was going to say I grew up in a northern town same size as Mayberry, and am around the age of Ron Howard so there are some similarities because of size of town and because of the era of the sixties. I was a child when this happened. We had a dress shop just like Ms. Luken's only the lady, Louise, was an older lady. She (Louise) called my father one time and said to come and take up this little ruby throated hummingbird that flew into our plate glass window (she had another older lady who helped her). She thought my father could nurse the little bird back to life and he did. He put it in the shed and later in the winter he got a bird cage and brought it in the house. And the little bird was just fine. One day, however, he wanted to see it fly and let it out. It swooped down and the poodle got it. He said we could not blame the poodle too much because it is their instinct. Maybe I'll walk up and get me a pint of ice cream for this nice Sunday afternoon. ha ha Autumn ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Adam took Jim back home to his pappy and guess who it was? it was O'l Man Weaver! he was in a buggy and thanked Adam for bringing his son back to him and he rode off. the next bonanza came on and there was a drunken man in the street with a gun in each hand and Hoss Cartright went over and took the guns away from him andthe drunk started pushing Hoss and Hoss pushed him back and he hit his head on the post and staggered and fell and his girlfriend, came screaming that he was dead, and guess who it was? Melissa Stevens! Daddy, come quick! Wait till ya' hear! then the mans brother went after Hoss and shot him in the back at long range, but Hoss was taken to the Pondersosa and the doctor had to come out and you will never guess who it was! remember the man Jess, who had to get his crops in and andy let him go and the mayor had to butt in andy's sherriffing business and the mayor got attacked by a bear! then today i was watching bonanza and there was barney's girlfriend Hilda May who was walking on the street and andy pulled up and asked her to get in the car and they talked how they could brighten barney's spirits. remember she laughed at his hair and he got mad. in back to back episodes of bonanza.i don't know the name of the first one, but the second one is Vengenance. dear mayberry digest, to answer the question of Howard Hessman. the times that he was on mayberry was the man at the counter of the hotel of the car show that Goober had a reunion with his old mechanic school buddy. Andy gets a bottle of pop and turns around and sees Goobers old mechanic school buddy working as a grease monkey in a gas station. First, I want to just say that I love reading all of the post every afternoon. The digest ususally comes during my lunch hour which is a treat! I also love watching the little abnormalities of the show as well. I noticed too the balcony door in Andy's room the other night as I watched The Rumor. When everyone brought Helen and Andy up to the room it was very nicely papered. I thought that a bit odd I hope everyone out there has a very Mayberry Day!! For example, the other night I watched The Rumor where Barney mistakenly thinks Andy and Helen are getting married and he and the town donate money to redo Andy's room. Well we know that Andy's room is on the second floor but there is an outside door that leads to ? In all the exterior shots there are no second floor decks, porches or balconies so where does this door go? Another Andy anomaly ! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Article
In the latest edition of Vanity Fair magazine (March, 2007) there is an article by Alexander Woolcott about A Face In The Crowd, starring our own Andy. I found it extremely interesting (and complimentary), though not an article you should read aloud to the kids, if you get my drift. One of my favorites is on tonight...I just love when Gomer backfire talks at Thelmer Lou! --Aunt Bee in Ohio - The fish are biting. Get more visitors on your site using Yahoo! The price was $11 million. Shoot, that's 1.57 gold trucks! Don't anybody tell Laura Lee. $11 mil, huh? Barney was right...there HAS been a lot of money in the collection plate lately. But were there any appropriations for the choir robes that Aunt Bee wanted? Or Clara's piano? Squad car sighting!
Everyone, I live in Madison County, Ohio, and was on my way to London (the county seat) to get my drivers' license renewed this morning. While passing a local retirement community, my darling person told me to pull over...and there, in the parking lot, was a gen-u-ine replica squad car, with the Mayberry logo on the side and a sign on the back that said Mt. Pilot Ford. No one was around, but we gave it a good once-over, and it looked terrific. And London, Ohio isn't too far from being Mayberry, so it really fit in well here. To whoever owns it...great job! --Aunt Bee in Ohio - Love cheap thrills? Enjoy PC-to-Phone calls to 30+ countries for just 2¢/min with Yahoo! Sad news
I'm sure everyone's heard by now the sad news of Don Knotts' passing. I can't express my sorrow right now, except to say... The tears that are on my pillow bespeak the pain that is in my heart. RE: Funniest Episodes
While I love all of the BW episodes and one of the funniest, to me, is Convicts at Large, (Better phone him Al), I still get a hoot out of most of the color ones as well, especially Dinner at 8 My favorite line is when Andy looks at Goober and says I'm going over to Helens and eat my third dinner and when I get back I'm gonna kill you! Gift of Mayberry
Hidee! Haven't checked in for a bit, but I just had to share this. I recently fell ill, and one of the things that saved my sanity was my TAGS DVD collection. Now that I'm better, I realize just how much being able to go to Mayberry helped me out. We all know Mayberry's a great place to have fun for a spell, but it can sometimes even be a little bit more. Being able to visit with my Mayberry friends truly helped my recovery, especially since I was alone most of the time. And how special that we have this online community to share our love with!
