malfeasance
From: Keith Miles mayberrymi...@yahoo.com Subject: Size of Shows The other weekend they were running a Bewitched marathon, and I noticed that the start times of the shows were around 36 minutes apart.? I thought maybe they were running? uncut episodes with their usual excessive allotment of commericals.? However, just for kicks, I timed one episode and found out they weren't running their usual excessive allotment of commercials--they were running MORE THAN USUAL.? The episode I timed clocked in at 19:40 (including opening and closing credits running over the epilogue), in a 36-minute window.? They should have made it a 40 minute window so they could run a full 50% commercials/promos.? Are they butchering TAGS that severely these days?? I thing Samantha Stevens and Mayberry's Count came from the same twig on the family tree. Throughout all the begatting that took place somewhere along the way the Count and Samantha got related. Throw in the witchcraft in Andy's family and the whole thing makes sense. I know I have this Count compellsion, but to me the whole thing is intertwined somehow. Subject: Ed Sullivan on TAGS (well, sort of) When Howard appeared on the amateur show, Andy remarked something like, Ed Sullivan has nothing to worry about. Aside from historical figures (such as Abraham Lincoln and Wyatt Earp), I'm wondering how many other real people from the '60's era were mentioned on TAGS eps. Any ideas? Missing Court house window
Some thing I just noticed on the episode where Mr. Case comes to visit. When Andy and Barney lock themselves in the cell and Andy had on the polka dot tie. Mr. Case lets them out of the cell and you can see in the background what looks like the bulletin board. But it should be facing the window of the courthouse. Later on when the man comes in the courthouse you can clearly see that where the window is in later episodes there is just sheet rock and a few wanted posters. I know this has been discussed before but I just wanted to give 4 or 5 moments in TAGS that make me become a little emotional. 1. Otis's acceptance speech of the plaque honoring him for Nathan Tibbs and his saying how proud his wife will be of him 2. Frankie the farmhand walking in to the courthouse after being transformed by Ellie Walker 3. Barney's defense speech of Andy in Andy on Trial. 4. Malcom Tucker getting ready to leave Mayberry and his peeling of the apple core 5. Ben Weaver standing on the crate and singing Away in a Manger. Thanks, Matt Those are good 'un's Matt. Weekend in Mayberry
From: Kim [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: The streets and bazaars of Mayberry To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have often wondered what I would do if I were to be given one hour of time in Mayberry. Ken I've wondered something similar, only mine would have to be a weekend in Mayberry. Here's my itinerary: Friday night - check into the Hotel and after telling Jason who I was and were I came from, I'd catch the movie at the theater. Saturday - get up early and head to the diner for a nice big breakfast, making sure to leave an extra quarter for Olive. Shop at Weavers as well as the other stores of Mayberry, pausing for lunch at the soda fountain, then a tour of the courthouse. Spend the afternoon at the beauty parlor chatting with the ladies. Get dressed up for supper at Morelli's, where I'd see the gypsy playing his violin for Barney and Thelma Lou. Head to Mrs Wiley's for the dance, cookies, punch and nice conversations with Mr Schwump and Ramona. Sunday - attend Church with the Taylors, who've invited me for the noon meal at their house. Afterward, walk to the fillin station for a bottle of pop then to the lake for an afternoon of fishing. Early evening relax on the Taylor's porch before heading home with the sack of sandwiches Aunt Bee made for me. Sweet lady also packed some of her home made pickles, but I'd learn to love em. Anyone else have a Mayberry vacation schedule? Kim - Wylie, TX Kim, Your weekend sounds fun, although I would have to go to Floyds for a haircut when you went to the beauty parlor. I also fear that I would be too tired for fishing on Sunday after Aunt Bea's Sunday Dinner. Although I would like a ride in the squad car so I could run the sireeen! And we would have to go to Thel's for cashew fudge at some point. Proposals and Kisses
This made me think of the Three's a Crowd episode, in the epilogue, Andy says to Mary, Would you mind if I kiss ya'? One of my favorite lines, thanks Kim. Terry - Murphy TX From: Kim [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Andy's proposal I wish they had shown Andy propose. It would have made a good episode with Howard and Goober and Opie interfering with Andy's plans so much that Andy would just have to propose in front of everyone. In the episode where Aunt Bee dates the (Senator or Congressman?), Andy goes to ask him to their house for dinner and the (?) asks Helen about her and Andy. Helen kinda says they aren't engaged or anything. So, being the investigative types we are, we can deduce that the engagement happened after that. Also when Andy was jealous of that guy Helen sat on the same side of the booth with, Andy asks Helen if she wants to run with him or run with the other guy. Which of course ticked Helen off, but kinda made it sound like they were exclusive. H, maybe she proposed. Or Barney called it in from Raleigh. Makes ya wonder. Subject: The History of The United States of America by Bernard P. Fife To: wbmutbb@wbmutbb.com Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Was wondering what episode(s) Andy quizzed Barney on his memory. Anyway, there are two episodes in which variations of the memory routine were used: Ellie Comes to Town, in which Barney attempts to memorize the rule an officer of the law shall enforce the law without regard to personal welfare and safety, and Opie's Ill-Gotten Gain in which attempts to recite the Preamble of the U. S. Constitution, which he claims to have learned in the eighth grade. In both cases, Barney could not recall even one single word! Don't forget about the Emancipation Proclamation. TAGS and MASH
We were watching The Gypsy episode a couple of days ago, with Jamie Farr. Jamie, as we all know, was a long time star on MASH, as Corporal Klinger. That got to thinking of other connections between two of my very favorite shows. Another couple are William Christopher, another regular on MASH. (Father Mulcahy). He played the new, young Doctor on one episode of TAGS, and I think he also played an IRS agent when Aunt Bee won her prizes in Hollywood. And there was of course Ron Howard, who was on one episode of MASH, playing a soldier who had lied about his age in order to join the Army. Can anyone think of more connections between TAGS and MASH?! Fred Pearlman The name Theodore J. Flicker comes to mind. I think he is a director. Not to be confused with a famous bald-headed director.
