New book I'm reading
I'm reading Talk of the Town (A Welcome To Daily, TX book 1) on my Kindle. One of the characters is a Hollywood type who describes Daily as "town that looked like Mayberry-well-preserved-on-a-studio-backlot". Even the town deputy is Barney like, handcuffing innocent people, locking his keys in the squad car, etc. it's so nice to see Mayberry mentioned in a positive way. Another mention when Mandalay (the Hollywood type starts thinking about her boss and why she was sent to Daily in the firts place. "You’ve dropped me on a secret reconnaissance mission into The Andy Griffith Show. Barney and Gomer just finished hanging Amber’s news on a big fat sign across Main Street, and Aunt Bee is standing on the curb. My cell phone has attracted her attention. Now she’s watching me. She’s wondering what I’m doing." Sent from my iPad ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
"Gossip" and the new book.
Gossip and the new book. With all due respect to Jim and Nancy. I do not conclude Don and Andy have to defend themselves. In this case anyway. We all sin, don't we? Even Jesus lost his temper and threw the tables over at the temple. There are usually many sides to a story. Even though having their dirty laundry hung out in public is not pleasant, it still doesn't take away from how well intentioned Andy and Don strived to be all their lives. And succeeded. Sometimes it's even beneficial to take a look at that laundry, so the rest can avoid the same pitfalls. Andy and Don were so spiritual, I bet they would have took the book in stride. Especially if others could learn from them. From all my observations, and even before I read the book, it doesn't seem like much of it was a well kept secret anyway. new book
Amen Jim and Nancy; I feel exactly the same way you all do. I'd like to tell that author to run up an alley and holler fish! He tried to trash the names of our beloved sheriff and deputy for his own gain and I'm sorry I added to his coffers. Shame on him. New book on Andy and Don
There's been much talk about the newly released book called "Andy and Don: The Making of a Friendship and a Classic American TV Show," and I know some of you have bought it already. I have yet to hear from anyone who has read the book, and I would encourage any of you who have to please post your review of the book here on the digest. On the surface, it sounds like it would be a great book, but I have talked to one "Mayberry insider" who had very disparaging things to say about it. So that has made me leery. I remember an excerpt from the book that was released in the summer, as a "teaser," I guess, and it was about Andy supposedly losing his temper and beating Don up. Not exactly the kind of thing I want to read about! But I want to hear from folks who have read the entire book so as to get a fair take on it. I hope several of you will write in with your comments on the book. I 'preciate it! Thelma Lou (Janet) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

New Book
Well friends you know that I wrote the book Mayberry Reflections the Early Years. Well I think I may finally do a second one. I got an inspiration the other morning when I was shaving. I looked up into the mirror when the title hit me, Ugly Reflections the Final Years. This one would be an autobiography. New book--good points and not so good
I browsed this book at my local bookstore this week. Sitcoms The 101 Greatest TV Comedies of All Time http://www.blackdogandleventhal.com/products/9781579127527/ The Andy Griffith Show is obviously included. Inexplicably Gomer Pyle USMC is not included. There is a nice, albeit inaccurate, spread on our favorite show. Like so many that don't have the facts straight. They claim Don Knotts decided to leave the show (veterans know that Andy was going to stop after five years, so Don signed a movie deal, and them Andy was coaxed to continue on). What's nice though is that they have 4 pages on Character Actors Of 40 stars shown, by my count at least 13 were on T.A.G.S.. That's a great percentage!! (or is it Horatio) Characters such as Otis, Clara, Mayor Stoner, Mrs. Wiley , etc. are shown. I didn't have time to read more , but it looked like a nice summary of each show including some up through current day. I just couldn't agree with all the selections . See what you think, if you see it, in the Entertainment section of your bookstore.
