TAGS Alumni sightings
I recently watched the Clint Eastwood movie "Hang 'em High" (1968) and notice the following TAGS alumni on there, some in very small parts and others in practically starring roles. Here they are: Pat Hingle (Fred Gibson on TAGS) Arlene Golonka (Millie Hutchins on TAGS) Alan Hale, Jr. (big Jeff Pruitt on TAGS and Skipper on "Gilligan's Island") James Westerfield (Uncle Ollie on TAGS) Joe Sirola (Freddy Fleet on TAGS) Tod Andrews (Ralph Case on TAGS) It was BIG! TAGS alumni sightings
I just saw Andy's cousin Gloria (played by Jan Shutan) from "Guest in the House" episode on an original "Star Trek" episode. She played a new Starfleet Lt. in the episode "Lights from Zetar" whose brain was taken over by aliens. Scotty was falling in love with her. The funniest line was at the beginning when Mr. Chekov said, "I never thought Mr. Scott would fall for a brainy woman." To that, Mr. Sulu responded, "I don't think he's even noticed she HAS a brain." LOL! I also saw our very own TAGS crook Ralph Neal (played by Arthur Batanides) who captured Barney with the help of Old Blue in the TAGS episode "Barney's Bloodhound" in a different "Star Trek" episode "That Which Survives". He played another Lt. who was a senior geologist who beamed down to a planet with Kirk, Spock and Sulu. He was killed by the beautiful woman alien Losira who simply touched him and destroyed all his cells. The alien was played by none other than Lee Meriwether who also played Andy Griffith's wife Mary Elizabeth Whitehead in his movie "Angel in my Pocket". That just goes to show that TAGS is everywhere! Multiple TAGS alumni sightings
Here's one that may be fun. How many TAGS alumni have you seen in one single TV episode (not movies) other than TAGS? I saw five recently in a Gunsmoke episode. There was Arthur Malet (Purvis and a Vagrant), Dabbs Greer (numerous roles), Malcolm Atterbury (Luke Jensen), George Kennedy (police officer in The Big House), and Harry Swoger (customer of the Bookie Barber - he got the shampoo for 80 cents). Now I'm talking about another (non-TAGS) TV episode, not a panel discussion or reunion. Put your thinkin' buckets on! TAGS Alumni Sightings
It was storming late this afternoon, so it gave me a good excuse to put off the yardwork and plop down in the recliner. Turned on my favorite channel, The Western Channel, (If your cable company does not have that they should get it), anyway I watched a couple of hours. Wagon Train, Have Gun Will Travel, and Gunsmoke. Well wouldn't you know it, on Wagon Train there were a bunch of orphans, and who do you think was one of them? Howie Pruitt. Then on Have Gun Will Travel, Mr. McBeevee was the sheriff of the town. Finally here came Gunsmoke. And do you know what happened? Very first thing, Matt walks out into the street and shoots Thelma Lou's first husband. And then the main story was about Colonel Harvey marrying an Indian woman. You know he told Opie that he lived amoung the natives. It got me to thinking that it would be hard to turn on just about any 50's and 60's western show without seeing some TAGS alumni. Orville Hendricks - The Butter and Egg Man. We don't tell it around much outside the family, but Evan was the star of the television show Fury. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

more TAGS alumni sightings - The Fugitive
Continuing on with viewing the season 3 episodes of The Fugitive I found our own Jack Dodson! In an episode titled Not with a Whimper (first aired in Jan. 1966), Dodson plays a police lieutenant. Quite different from being Howard Sprague, Dodson as a cop is pretty much no nonsense and does a fair amount of bossing his uniformed subordinates. Dodson also is shown handling a snub-nosed police revolver (drawn and ready to shoot). TAGS alumni sightings and Mayberry Days
Had the opportunity to catch an episode of Bonanza on Sunday while waiting for my football team's game to start. I find the series always has plenty of TAGS connections. The judge in the episode, The Trail Gang, was played by Harry Antrim, Ellie Walker's Uncle Fred Walker from the drug store; Edgar Buchanan, who played the trail gang's cook, appeared on TAGS as Henry Wheeler in Aunt Bee's Brief Encounter; and the sheriff, who jailed his own son who wanted to come back to town to kill him for it, was played by James Westerfield, TAGS' own Uncle Ollie! It is a small world after all. P.S. I still have two tickets for the Sept. 27 banquet during Mayberry Days which hosts all of the stars at the Country Club north of Mount Airy. They're $40 each.
