We still have a couple drive-in movies in the area.? There is one in

Lexington.?

I am a HUGE fan of drive-in theaters! I've been to every one of the ones
you named, and took pictures. I even drove all the way from Gadsden,
Alabama to see a double feature at the one in Monetta (nicknamed The Big
Mo).
We do have a few still going here in Alabama as well, including an
especially nice one in Centre, Alabama called the 411, after Highway 411.

I wish we could've seen some of the Mayberry characters actually going to a
drive-in, it would've been a perfect fit with their car culture. As it
was, we do hear Barney asking Juanita to the drive-in, and we do see Gomer
taking Carol Burnett (long after he joined the Marines).

drive ins

Dewey, I got to go to a drive-in movie last summer when I was in Mitchell,
SD. It was really fun re-living an old memory. It's a shame most of them
have gone by the wayside.

Drive Ins

2006-09-07 Thread blueridgebiker
I have wondered why drive in movie theaters was never used in the show.
It is a very Big part of Americana, the 50's and the south.
The Brightleaf drive in is still in business in Mt Airy, NC.
If you are planning on attending Mayberry Days in
Mt Airy you can call the drive in there at 336.786.5494 and see what is playing
at the time.
Hay, Wouldn't it be great if they were playing TAGS.
When I was growing up in Salisbury, NC had a drive in.
Now the closest one is in Badin, NC near Uwharrie National Forest and
Albemarle, NC.
I hear drive ins are making a come back.
Remember when you went to the drive in and you could not hear cause the sound
was distorted and crakled and it was hard to see the screen cause the windows
fogged up, and I can't even remember a single movie I went to go see. But
didn't we all have a good time sneaking in to the parking lot in the trunk. or
so I have heard.
