epilogues
Hey everybody! Does anyone know why some of the episodes on DVD and on streaming services do not have the epilogues? For example, the VHS tape I had of "Barney Mends a Broken Heart" had the final minute, but my DVD doesn't, and neither does Netflix. RE: epilogues
Since a lot of folks have chimed in lately regarding the choir robes episode, hasn't anyone noticed that the whole situation with the building leaning to one side could never have happened in the first place?? We know from this very episode that the church has a BASEMENT, and there's no way a trickle of water down the side of such a building could cause it to lean to one side.? A plain old wooden shack with no foundation, maybe, but not a substantial structure with a basement underneath it. ? Paul Mulik -- Paul, that's the actor of the church. Unresolved Epilogues
One of my favorites is the epilogue to Dogs, Dogs, DogsBarney and Andy are sitting in the courthouse relaxed after finding homes for all 11 dogs. Then a man named Clint Biggers shows up looking for the Dogs as the owner. Andy and Barney then (presumably) have to go out and get back all 11 dogs although it is not shown. epilogues
Some very astute observations about the nature of unresolved epilogues and the suspension of disbelief they entail. I think my favorite of these is at the end of The loaded goat when Andy leads the goat over the hill while Barney plays that soothing harmonica solo! It leaves a somewhat poignant feeling that even though the ending is not literally spelled out, that somehow everything will turn out alright. Eric Swolgaard But that's not the epilogue, that is merely the end of act two. In the epilogue, Andy and Barney are back at the courthouse, and one of them calls the blasting engineer to say they may commence their blasting, adding that Jimmy should be safe, since he is safely secured in a field away from town. Then they go into the back room, and Mayor Stoner and Hudge enter, and a moment later they hear a distant BOOM! They jump to the conclusion that Andy, Barney, and Jimmy have all perished, and the mayor solemnly begins a eulogy to the brave heroes, not realizing that they are standing right behind him, listening to every word! Unresolved epilogues
There are many unresolved epilogs..like did Barney and Gomer sell all the Salve?? How do the Taylors deal with a whole freezer full of beef that is tough. How do the neighbors deal with Fred and Jenny Boone when they go back to throwing dishes..the list goes on. Yes, and did Andy and Barney *really* learn to love those kerosene cucumbers?? Actually, unresolved epilogues are good in that they imply that life in Mayberry plugs along even when the cameras aren't rolling. It allows us to believe (or enjoy hoping, anyway) that all the citizens of Mayberry are living life day to day just like we are, except that every so often a camera catches some of what is going on. So the unresolved epilogues encourage our voluntary suspension of disbelief. Thelma Lou (Janet) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Epilogues, Color Episodes and Cheese
The episode that mentions Romeena's father is a great epilogue. Barney expresses a lack of understanding as to why a quiet, demure (he pronounces it dee-moor) girl would be interested in a man like Ernest T. seeing as how she's heir to the Ankram Charcoal Company. Andy tells Barney that Romeena is the daughter of Rotten Ray Ankram who came down out of the hills and burned down the town to which Barney replies And THEN went into the charcoal business? Well it just goes to show you 'breedin' will out'. Yes, that was Rob Reiner working at the print shop and whereas I agree that Howard McNear didn't sound so good in that episode, I have read that his last appearance was the episode where Howard buys the building and raises Floyd's rent. I heard that he really had to struggle to get through it, but I thought he did a great job. As far as bringing in the cheese goes, when we were kids we thought it was bringing in the sheep. We didn't know what a sheave was, but we sure heard a lot about sheep in the bible. slicing up the epilogues
Hidee, from Branson. I have noticed that if TVLAND does keep an epilogue it is changed somewhat. Let me explain. There is a habit on lots of stations to REDUCE the size of the picture and move it sideways to allow annoucements of what is to come next, etc. I do not like it (personal preference) because I like to read the credits and it is hard to read the credits or hear the music when it is changed! The trend on TVLAND for TAGS seems to be that the other day, DURING the epilogue, towards the last seconds (where the hook line is) TVLAND reduces the size of the picture, chops off the music and begins a promo of something yet to come on later. Personally, I DO NOT like that.(personal preference.) sheila henderson, Branson, MO This e-mail is for the addressee(s) and may contain confidential information. Epilogues
I was curious about epilogues being left off so I quickly looked at them last night. It is definitely left off Barney Mends a Broken Heart but it IS on Mountain Wedding. If these are supposed to be complete can anyone explain the epilogue was left off BMSBH? It doesn't make sense to me that that would happen. I'm new to all of this and maybe it has been discussed before, but has anyone noticed they are using the first years opening on all or at least most of the episodes? It leads me to this question, I wonder if they will use the original ending (the closing credits) on the last 3 DVD's? I remember how it went. Andy and Opie are walking away after fishing, Opie drops a fish, runs back to get it, then puts it in his pocket. I know it isn't being shown on reruns on TV-Land, so that's why I ask.
