Thanks,

Spelling Bee (get it?)

2011-03-23 Thread tubist
Now you old-timers know this, so this is for the new arrivals. On The Andy
Griffith Show, it is Aunt BEE, not BEA. It is always spelled B-E-E in the
credits, never B-E-A, and it is seen spelled BEE on screen within episodes a
few times too (example: painted on the window of her Chinese restaurant).

Just remember: it's I before E except after C, and E after E in Aunt Bee.

Now that I'm the subject of spelling, here's a trivia question: which recurring
character's name was once misspelled in the closing credits? Not the actor's
name, the character's name.

Spelling BEE

OK, so I thought the other rule is:
I before E except after C and E before N in chicken!

Mother Is a Freshman

2011-03-23 Thread Janet Anderson
I happened to watch Mother was a Freshman with Loretta Young and who do
you think was playing her daughter...the movie was made in 1949, and had Van
Johnson in it.

That would be Betty Lynn, our own Thelma Lou!

TAGS alumni

2011-03-23 Thread Janet Anderson
I don't usually write in about the actors from TAGS I see appearing in other
shows, but I thought I would this time. I've been watching The Waltons on
DVD while I exercise on my elliptical, and I've seen two TAGS alumni, both
former flames of Andy Taylor, on back-to-back episodes. Yesterday I saw Peggy
McCay (Sharon DeSpain) playing the mother of a blind girl. This was eleven
years after the Class Reunion episode. Then today I saw Joanna Moore (Peggy
McMillan) playing the owner of a boarding house where John Walton, Sr., stays
briefly while working a city job. This was twelve years after her stint as
Andy's girlfriend. I must say that, although she was still a pretty lady, she
looked a good bit older than her age of 39 or 40. I'm assuming this was due to
some of the poor choices she made in her personal life. I thought she
definitely looked older than Peggy McCay, even though Peggy is four years older
than Joanna. Both ladies gave good performances, and it was nice to see them
again in other roles.

Elizabeth Taylor

2011-03-23 Thread Susan Blank
I do believe the episode where Elizabeth Taylor was mentioned was when Aunt
Bee did the Foster's Furniture Polish commercials, and she said this might
be alright for Elizabeth Taylor, but it's not for me. Then the show was
off the road! Does this sound correct?
My mother wanted to name me Elizabeth (my last name was Taylor) but didn't
want to attach me to a famous person. Go figure!

Smoking

2011-03-23 Thread DAVID QUINN

Everyone got the trivia question correct. The 3 men who smoked in the same
episode were indeed Andy, Fred Goss, and Otis. And the episode was Wedding
Bells For Aunt Bea. Fred Goss was an easy guess because he smoked in every
episode he appeared in. And Andy was pretty easy because he smoked
semi-frequently. But the surprising one was Otis. I do not remember Otis
smoking in any other episode.
Does anyone remember Otis smoking in any other episode?

Orville Hendricks - Peddling Butter and Eggs. I saw the post where Ferlin
Huskey died. It came the same day we were speaking of smoking. That got me to
thinking about the old country song Out Behind The Barn. That is where most
country boys smoked their first cigarette.

TAGS names in book

2011-03-23 Thread Margaret Dishman
Due to many problems I am in a wheelchair and I read much of the time.
Recently while reading, I realized the two dogs in the story were named Earnest
T and Otis. I found this interesting. The next name was of a former teacher -
Mrs. Mendlebright. Then Ben Weaver was a lawyer and the main young lady's
first name was Emma!Needless to say, my imagination went to work on how funny
our TAGS folks would be as the ones in the book! I loved it - but it does show
many, many folks love TAGS,too.
