[wdvltalk] Simple CMS

2006-02-21 Thread Dan Parry
Hi all

I've been asked to find a really, really simple CMS for a customer of ours.
The problem is time... I'm currently looking after all the projects of the
company and haven't even got time to make a coffee (believe me, I'm
suffering for it)

I therefore draw on the lists mighty knowledge to help me

The only outline for this I've received is that the user should just be able
to update content as if they are using Word (or similar)... I think it
should be assumed that the user will have an IQ roughly equivalent to that
of the average mousemat :)

The package should be lightweight

Many thanks in advance

Dan

What about FlySpeck? http://www.flyspeck.net/

It's not really a CMS, but if your client just wants to be able to update
content it would be perfect.

I'm on dialup and it didn't take too long to load.

On another note, can you extend the tan all the way to the bottom? It looks
disjointed.

Thanks Chris. Did you only check the index page or the whole site? (I
used to be on dial up and kept telling people how important it was to
accommodate people on dial up, but when you switch to DSL . . . it is
easy to forget that!)

I will extend the tan part - thanks.

www.etomite.org It's the *only* cms that I will suggest to anyone.
I've tried about a dozen of them and it's got all that I've ever
tried beat hands down. It's very lightweight, easy peasy install,
many many many addons (called snippets) and very versatile. I have
two sites that I'm working on in this right now and one other that's
been done for awhile and when I can finally redo my own site I will
probably use it for that. Mambo/Joomla has some great stuff, but I
tell ya - it's pretty close to impossible for me to wrap my head
around it's navigation system. Plus, it's huge and for many sites
(that I do anyway) is overkill. The help when you need it at Etomite
is top notch, can't beat it from my experience. In Etomite, you make
your *own* template (or use theirs) and just drop in the snippets
where you want them.

[wdvltalk] Another question - wording

2006-02-21 Thread Portman
The website I am working on was originally designed by someone else.
When I took over, I kept the basic layout and the navigation graphics
and added a shopping cart, more pictures and revised all the pages. I
want to put something at the bottom that says that I did so-and-so but
the original site was designed by so-and-so. How can I do that
diplomatically? Right now I have: Site designed by GraphicIQ |
Shopping cart and updates by Star Quality Designs but it is a little
more work than just updates. Revision? Redesign? Modification?

Thanks again,

RE: [wdvltalk] Another question - wording

2006-02-21 Thread Christina Lannen
I did the same thing for a current client. I placed Site modified and cart
by fill in the blank and the previous designer's credit without a
hyperlink.

We will be doing a complete redesign at some point in the future after all
new product shots are taken, and then the previous designers credit will be
removed completely

On another site since another graphic designer designed the logo the
customer uses I gave him credit.

http://contentseed.com originally created as an add-on for Front Page you
can use it outside FP by planting the seeds manually. Seeds are code
snippets in either PPP or Asp, no database required. (Chris, developer, says
the php version is best $49 per domain or $149 for dev license and no per
site or per user fees..)
