[libreoffice-website] Moving on to a new job

Dear community,

I will be leaving TDF as a contractor by the end of July. I got a very 
interesting job offer that I decided to accept. I have long thought about this 
offer, but I came to the conclusion that it best fits my personal development. 
Despite being no longer the official infrastructure representative, I will 
continue to help out as a volunteer. I enjoyed the possibility to build and 
shape the current state of the infrastructure and hope to be able to contribute 
in the future.

The next weeks will be challenging for the infra team, we have to step together 
to cope with the upcoming tasks.
For the moment, Christian will be introduced to the most urging topics, but as 
this is not his primary job,  helping hands will be needed.

If you want to contribute to the infrastructure of the Document Foundation, 
please join the next infra call that takes place on June 15, 1800 UTC, with

My leave will also affect the work on many tickets, because a smooth handover, 
together with some important issues such as the shaping of the overall 
infrastructure is now the highest priority. The handover status and current 
high priority tasks will also be condensed in the infra pad.

I had a great time working with you, and am looking forward to being a 
volunteer again!

The newly fitted network card for excelsior seems to have one faulty port.

• Pootle migration status
• Migration takes much longer than expected
• For the future, evaluate migration paths that shorten downtime
• Export -> Modify SQL Dump, Migrate -> Import as example
• Jan: Postgres is not fast with Pootle
• Virtualization host migration status and planning
• Excelsior next Tuesday, Falco next Wednesday, no blocker
• List of physical boxes, their name, location and status.

• beta was setup by norbert and is a replica of production gerrit (at the 
moment without postgres)
• Storage space on berta to store home-made install package, app-config git 
repo etc.. to help salt recovery without bloating pillar
• /srv/fileshare/mnt (glusterfs, replicated with antares, synchronous) -> 
switch to georeplication
• https to the fileshare (needs forwarding on gustl)
• ssh to berta (needs forwarding on gustl)
• antaras as hot standby
• backups: /srv/backup/mnt (glusterfs, georeplicated with antares)

The database migration is still in progress as of Wednesday, 20 April, 1230 UTC.
It is taking longer than expected by the pootle experts.

Details about the ongoing migration:

- The current database migration is the addition of a column to the largest 
table of pootle
- The size of the tablespace for this table alone is over 33G
- The MySQL/InnoDB database that is used uses a temporary table to store the 
data while a new table with the additional column is created
- The size of the temporary table is currently 9.3G
- The tablespace for the original table of 33G may contain unused space due to 
the structure of InnoDB
- In worst case scenario, the migration of this table alone might take until 
Friday

After evaluating the different options (continuing migration/aborting migration 
and downgrade), we decided to continue on until Friday Noon. If no sufficient 
progress was made by then, the migration will be aborted and the pootle 
installation downgraded.

Re: [libreoffice-website] Planned downtime of dauntless

Hi,

the migration of dauntless took a bit longer than expected, because we ran into 
the following problems:
- During reboot, the RAID was not assembled as fast as expected by systemd. 
Fixed by adding rootdelay=10 to /etc/default/grub
- The network configuration with bridges was hard to adapt over kvm, and 
ifdown/ifup are not good enough for our complex network configuration, so a 
reboot was required.

All vms should be accessible again.

during next weeks maintenance window I will perform a security update of 
pootle. Due to the needed database migrations, this might take quite a long 
time. The update process starts on Monday, 18 April, 0300 UTC and might take up 
to 12 hours. During that timeframe, pootle will be offline. Please get in touch 
with me if there are any concerns regarding this downtime.

Hi,

there have been some issues regarding moderation of new posts on 
ask.libreoffice.org <http://ask.libreoffice.org/>. We found out that the 
moderation queue contained different items for various moderators. We will try 
to get this fixed ASAP.

On the other hand, the spamming situation seems to be much less intense at the 
moment, so it was decided to deactivate full moderation for the moment and go 
to audit mode, meaning that posts will be made public in an instant.

I started to work on moving as much of our infra documentation to a public 
project as possible. As it is our goal to have as most of our configuration 
salted, I decided to make an joint effort: The documentation will be part of 
the salt-states-base project that also contains our public salt states.

Unfortunately, the german Community call was set to the date and time the Infra 
call was supposed to take place in.

The next infra call will take place on Wednesday, 17 November, 18:00 UTC. We 
will decide then if that schedule (3rd Wednesday of the month) is going to be 
continued.

[libreoffice-website] Upgrade of dauntless host delayed - vm138 affected

Hi,

during tonights maintenance window our virtualization host dauntless was 
upgraded to Debian 8. After rebooting, GRUB entered rescue mode as it could not 
load the linux module (symbol grub_realidt not found). Manual recovery of grub 
failed with the same error.
Also the BIOS failed to detect the attached emergency-USB flash drive that 
should be used as fallback in case of boot failure. I have therefore contacted 
manitu support so that they can ensure that booting from the USB drive gets 
possible again.

the disks of the following vms will be migrated to the not-hyper-redundant (but 
still redundant) storage soon:

During the migration, the vm must be shutoff. VMs 136-140 will come last so you 
have a chance to shut them down when convenient.

during our admin-meeting on friday we managed to resolve the gluster issue 
(thanks to Alin Cretu).
The gluster is being rebalanced among the hosts, quorum will be enabled as soon 
as this has happened.
Even now the crash test host is fully operational and at your hands.

increase the stability of the whole platform. Even VMs with multiple HDDs with 
some with HA and some without can be built.

Hi,

the crashtest VM host has arrived. At the moment the setup is delayed as we ran 
into a problem with glusterfs:
gluster peer status
Number of Peers: 1

Hostname: XX.XXX.XX.XXX
Uuid: 6c93319b-b195-4ce9-b43c-be7467a7ce91
State: Peer Rejected (Connected)

This shows up during manual gluster setup as well as automatic setup by oVirt.
I will try to handle this by the end of next week, if that is not successful I 
will fallback to local storage which has some disadvantages as the host is then 
not able to increase the HA of the overall platform.

[libreoffice-website] Excessive disk usage on kermit - Help needed

Hi,

while working on preparing kermit for its migration to the new infra, I 
stumbled across the fact that over 500G of data reside in the website directory.
Comparing with the content of the different sites this seems to be extremely 
high, so I ask you, if you have access to kermit, please clean up as much as 
possible.
This will help to drastically reduce the amount of time needed for migration 
and greatly simplifies my work.

Here’s a list of the biggest folders:

[libreoffice-website] Migration of Gerrit to new Infrastructure - DOWNTIME planning

Hi all,

good news, everyone! Our new infrastructure has proven to be stable and 
reliable, so the time has come to migrate our gerrit instance to the new 
platform.
This brings quite a nifty benefit: The VM gerrit is running in will then be 
highly available with redundant storage and seamless automigration between 
servers.
But the downside is that the migration will take some time, in the case of 
gerrit the pure copying will take about 10hours, starting and reconfiguring the 
VM afterwards only 10-20Minutes.
So a downtime of about 10.5h needs to be planned.

My proposal is to start the copying of the vm on Saturday, 29 November, 
0900UTC. The downtime will then end around 1930UTC on the same day.
I will try to fix the date on Saturday, 15 November, so please comment until 
then.

[libreoffice-website] Migration of ask.libreoffice.org to the new infra - planned DOWNTIME

I have planned to migrate the AskLibO-VM to our new infra on Monday, 17 
November, starting at 0900UTC. It will be unavailable until around 1200UTC.
It would be nice to have someone prepare a static website that can be displayed 
during the migration.
