 Easy to handle.

There were a few more:

Hmmm, how does Your answer relate to my question?

I found out that the blacklist IP setting only works when you
unregistered users edit pages. However, this is disabled in our wiki.

The following should be effective at the moment:

 - Unregistered users cannot edit pages

 - Registration involves solving a mathematical question (Captcha); if
needed, it can be enhanced to be a read the above two words captcha
 (recaptcha)

 - Registration also involves confirming e-mail accounts

 - Some words and HTML techniques are blacklisted, and editing IPs are
 scanned on blacklists

I hope this helps in reducing the spam. Please let me know about the
results, so we can see where there is room for improvement. :)

2011-04-12 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hi,

Friedrich Strohmaier wrote on 2011-04-12 01.01:

Does anyone know, if there is something like a confirm Your data
module available. If nagging human users why not do something useful?

what would be also very helpful to know:

1. Can someone create a new user, do *NOT* validate your e-mail address,
and then try

a. to create a new page
b. to edit an existing page
Both should *NOT* work, but maybe there's a bug?

2. Did the amount of spam pages change at all, i.e. at least a bit less?

This will help further investigation.

Thanks,

Let's see if it is better with ReCaptcha. If now, we have to investigate

Maybe someone can let me know tomorrow if the amount of spam was at

Depending on working times, K_J and me are usually looking in it in the morning.
In the last weeks we found five to seven new users almost every day,
which registered that night (european time) and commited one spam page
each not long after registering.
So we will see tomorrow.

For now I have to add that there are some suspicious user
registrations left, but that doesn't count if we won't get new
spammers.

Sophie blocked all the spammers. Why do not delete their accounts?

You can only disable users, IMHO, but not delete them completely. (At
least not without a separate extension.)

Yes. Have a look at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Special:Log/newusers

I doubt that anything beside captcha will work for the registration page.
