Cool. The current Fedora websites framework is Flask, which is Python-based.
That's not on your list but I think from the breadth of experience you'll
have no problem picking it up quickly. See https://pagure.io/fedora-web/websites

That's excellent too. We could always use more documentation. In fact, one
of the things we really need right now is a "getting started with Fedora
websites" -- how to make changes, test them locally, and get them from that
local test to live.

New contributor self introduction - Mikael Granberg

2019-07-21 Thread Mikael Granberg

Hello!

My name is Mikael and I've just signed up for a Fedora account to be
able to contribute to the Fedora Websites Project for starters.

_About myself_
I'm a middle aged father of two beautiful kids. I live in the southern
parts of Sweden. Computers is my life. I've got my first computer in
1982 when I was seven years old. It was a Commodore 64 with a tape
station. My first programming experience was in C64 Basic. My first
favorite computer game was Miner 2049'er. Besides my interest in
computers I like to cook and spend time with my family and kids. I also
read (eBooks or audio-books) a lot. Right now I'm reading Factfullnes by
Dr Hans Rosling.

_My skills_
*Software Programming* - I know a lot of different programming
languages, but my strength lies within ADA, Pascal, Java, Microsoft c#
and Visual Basic.

*Web development* - I also know a lot of different web development
languages and systems. I started out with HTML, Lotus Script and Lotus
Domino Web server many years ago. But today my strengths lay within PHP,
HTML, JavaScript, AJAX, XSLT, JSON, etc. I also know a lot about web
server operations on both Linux and Windows. In my professional life I
have been working with both Apache and IIS.

*Databases* - I have came across a lot of databases during my life.
Within my professional life I have been working with Microsoft SQL
Server, MySQL, SAP Basis, SAP HANA and Oracle databases.

*Operations* - In my professional life I have been working both as a
software engineer but also as an operations engineer. So I know a bit
about both worlds and the many, so hard to solve struggles between "the
software developer" and "the server operator". I'm familiar with both
Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and a lot of other Linux flavors. I am also very
experienced on the Microsoft platforms.

*Everything else* - I'm very skilled when it comes to translating
content between English and Swedish. I have written a lot of support
articles for basically everything between how to connect your modem to a
telephone line and how to write surveillance scripts in Nagios. I like
to write technical articles.

That's the short version of me. Thank you all for your time.

Kind regards, Mikael Granberg

Hi Lazaro,

Nice you have interest in joining our team, we build our pages mainy with
HTML, CSS, some Python scripts and JS. Internationalization is done with
genshi, but this is easy to learn.
I guess you already followed our Join page [1] and arrived at point 5, so
now just go ahead and look if you like some of our open tickets. You should
also join us on #fedora-websites in freenode, some discussions are going on
there or you can also just say hello. If you need assistance or some

Hope to see you soon online.

Hi Ooyama,
Thanks for this report, you PR is ok, but you missed the 32 bit ISO. You
can make a new PR or just add another commit to your actual PR to get these
changes in.

About the websites team, let's talk a bit on IRC, you can also catch a
ticket and try to fix it in the meanwhile. We want to make sure you
understand the build process and are at least able to check why builds are
failing and where to make changes to fix them. I will try to guide you to
make this happen soon.
Thanks.

 Hi Introduced,

Further guidance please, what should I do

Hi Eko,
if you've already running our pages locally you can start with some
tickets, maybe at the beginning the easier ones.
You can find them on the easyfix page [1] or just look in our trac [2].

a little about me, I am not the basis of the information technology or a
programmer, I am currently working as a telecommunication engineer, but I
knew little about CMS like wordpress, etc., and I run a vps for my personal
 website.

Great, this will help you to understand a little bit our source files,
but there is nothing very difficult.
We don't use php as CMS based systems, but mainly Python (genshi),
html, css and JS.

If you have any doubts please ask and say hello on #fedora-websites on freenode.

Greetings.

don't worry about it.

At the moment I'm following steps for understand tools and works.

great, if you have questions please ask, here or on IRC #fedora-websites.

In the meantime I improve my knowledge, a bit freezed due to a long
 time of inactivity.

My skills are: PHP, HTML/CSS and a great willing to learn.

That's enough for now. If you know a bit of PHP you won't have
difficulties to understand our easy Python scripts. You can learn
everything by doing, your great willing to learn is awesome and will
have success.

 I'm looking forward to start.

Nice, man power is very welcome. You can look at our easyfix tickets
[1] or if you want you can start working on one of the other tickets
in the websites trac [2].
BTW, have you already cloned our repo? Start by looking at it locally,
maybe you want also to understand better the 960 grid system we use
[3]. in the end you should also read how our workflow [4] is set
actually.

 Best regards.

Looking forward to your website's contributions.

Hi Ali,

I guess you have already looked at our join page [1], where you find most
of the informations needed to join the websites group. Your HTML and CSS
skills are welcome, but we don't use PHP. However, your PHP skills will
help you to learn Python, because our pages are build with this language,
and we use the Genshi framework for internationalization.
It would be a good idea taking a look at the 960 grid system [2], because
you will find many divs in our sources.

Finally, to get started, you need:
* to clone our repo. See [3] and join the web FAS group.
* start working on tickets, see easyfix [4] at the beginning or our Trac
[5]. You can send your patches there.

Please ask if you have any doubts, writing to the websites Mailing List or

That's why I'm just offering my services as Spanish translator. Lets see if

This is an important job, and something that is very much needed. If
we can do the hard work for a short time -- the work of growing
experienced teams in native languages who learn through translation
tools and translators -- we can plant the seeds in many countries to
grow stronger Fedora technical presence.

About 2.5 years ago Greg Dekoenigsberg hacked together a bot to
auto-translate an IRC channel through Google translation tools in real
time in to a secondary IRC channel. He did this for Spanish and
Portuguese, iirc, and it worked well enough for him to get business
done with Ambassadors in South America. There was some additional
work done by John McLean, but it's been pretty much static for the 2
years:

What I'm imagining is a secondary channel e.g. #fedora-meeting-en
where a bot outputs the lines from #fedora-meeting-es after
translation. English readers read there. (Not sure yet in this
scheme where Spanish readers go for translations from English.)
Translators can be in the secondary channels and help to figure out
the hard stuff, the parts that didn't translate well - explain idioms,
longer terms, etc.

This way English-only reading mentors can assist new people in a
different language. Even an entire channel can be translated and
logged during the day, and a Websites mentor can go through the log
once a day, ask the translator some questions, and send back some
advice in to the channel. Much like we do right now in
single-language channels.

I'm bringing this idea here because I think the Websites team is the
best place to try this out. People here are technical enough to work
with an experimental technology and gain from it. The skills needed
to contribute to Websites are more common than for Infrastructure (for
example), and the skills represent the kind of job skills people are
trying to learn throughout the world - Python, Django, JavaScript,
JSON, user interactive design, etc. (I could be wrong and perhaps
Infrastructure is another great place to try this out, I just happen
to notice the traffic here.)

Also, we seem to be getting more and more people from Asia and South
America who are interested in working on the Websites team. I think
our success in building teams in North America, Europe, and the other
English speaking countries is because of the common language. If we
can get a critical mass of native-speaking contributors in Chinese,
Spanish, Portugeuse, Russian, Greek, Swahili, Indic langs, you name
the language ... each critical mass pushes the door open wider for a
healthy contributor community to arise in countries that speak those
languages.

PS - I just noticed this, which may be useful in a back channel for
English to Indic scripts:

https://fedorahosted.org/iTranslit/

FUEL could be used somehow, for example, if a bot could search for
specific phrases and use the FUEL database to translate it, then send
the rest to Google translator:

Self-introduction email

2010-08-06 Thread Miguel Sánchez de León Peque
Hi all,

Mi name is Miguel Sánchez de León Peque, and I'm from Spain.

I'm a student at the *Universidad Politécnica de Madrid*, studying
industrial engineering. I have very short experience in application
programming (C, C++) and even shorter experience in web programming (HTML,
CSS, JavaScript, PHP). The only website I've created since I started
learning web programming in January 2010 is Neosit's
Webpagehttp://www.neosit.es/
.

That's why I'm just offering my services as Spanish translator. Lets see if
I change my mind after a while... ;-)

Thanks tajidinabd (#IRC) for helping me doing this.

Hi, I'd like to do something about System Admin, and now learning web
